The Way

{ Grayson } I can tell Midnight is three seconds away from taking me up on my offer and yanking my shorts down to take advantage of me in seven different ways... or eight, because she hates the number seven. That wouldn't bother me, but this isn't the best time for the kind of sëxual vibes that are going on between us. I can't say for sure that I won't jump all over her and lick her all over right here in front of everyone. But after Lion's speech about how he doesn't want any disrespect towards his daughter, I'm not very comfortable with those hot looks said daughter is giving me. They make me feel like a traitor. "I could have touched Jake yesterday, but I didn't because I was afraid," Midnight blurts out suddenly, not taking her eyes off my exposed torso. I make a confused face but she keeps talking before I can ask her what she means, "I really wanted to touch him. But I was afraid." "That's good, you shouldn't go around thinking about touching the bodies of unknown alphas," I scold her, because I feel the need to. Midnight is naive and any ässhole could take advantage, "You don't know if he was a rapist or worse." "That's not relevant. Jake couldn't have hurt me, at least not in that place, not when he knew I was with you. Besides, a rapist wouldn't be so calm and a murderer wouldn't have taken me to the bathroom, he would have made me leave the place. I'm not stupid, so don't imply that I am," she frowns at me, "But I was afraid because I don't know how to act with a.... With a real life man. And now that there's a new kind of even more intimidating man, an alpha, it just makes things harder." "You act okay with me and I'm an alpha, too." "But you're like my uncle and you said so yourself." "Would you look at an uncle like that? Calling myself that was silly, I only did it because I consider Lion my brother, but you're right, we're not related in any way." "If my uncle looked like you, I would," she answers honestly. She lifts a finger and starts touching my abdomen in a deliberate, slow way, the same way she was erasing numbers on my board. That little finger of hers makes me shiver, "Would you like to go somewhere private and do that touching thing?" This girl is going to kill me. I never imagined for a second that she would be so bold, I thought she would ignore my advances like any other omega with a brain. "Of course I would like to, Mid, but Lion is waiting for me and besides... wanting to and being able to are different things," I explain and grab her head in my hands to kiss her forehead and let her go, "Come, you can be present at my training. And I'll introduce you to my friend Baxter, you'll like him." "Is he handsome?" she asks, interest shining in her eyes. "Yes. He's very, very handsome," I answer, as we walk to where Lion is waiting for me, working for the meantime with Bax as I expected. He is signing something to Lion, "Baxter is not a boxer but he trains with me because he doesn't want to be fat again." Baxter turns to us when he hears what I said and raises his middle finger at me. He knows how to communicate in Italian, Spanish and English in his sign language and yet the sign he uses most around me is that one. How peculiar. "Hey, Bax, come here," I call out to him, and Lion starts to whine, but Theresa comes to his side at that moment, probably to ask him why the hell he hadn't told her about his daughter, "This is Midnight, Lion's daughter. Mid, this is my best friend, twice removed third cousin and biggest fan, Baxter." Baxter gives her a big smile and a casual wave with his hand. Mid stares at him like he's the world's biggest delight and can't wait to eat him, which at this point doesn't surprise me. I'm starting to realize that this half-human omega is somehow more perverted than I am. And that's... pretty funny. I've never met someone who was ‘more something’ than me. "Are you mute?" she asks him directly. Baxter looks at me to explain for him. "Bax was attacked by a wolf when he was a kid, right in the throat. It injured his vocal cords. Technically he could talk but chooses not to because he doesn't like the way his voice sounds. Now he communicates by signing, but I don't approve," I add, just because I like to comment on it as much as I can. Bax rolls his eyes hard but I don't care if I sound like his mother, I want him to get my message: speak again. Midnight nods, observing his prominent scars without any qualms and surprises us both when she raises her hands and starts signing. She says, "That's tragic, I'm sorry," and "You're handsome." And I can almost feel my best friend fall in love with her right then and there. "How do you know..." "I know a lot of things," she interrupts me, shrugging. So smug. I've been trying to learn for the past four years and the truth is that even though I understand almost all of it, I don't have the ability or the coordination to sign fully. "Grayson, that's enough dilly-dallying. Start warming up and leave Midnight alone for one second," Lion commands in his coach voice and walks over to Mid with his busty girlfriend on one side. I wink at Theresa and allow myself to stare at her t**s for a moment before I go for a light run to warm up as Lion starts to introduce them. I'd like to stay and see how that goes, I guess it's going to be pretty hard to get a woman with pure air on the brain to understand someone as complex as Midnight, who knows nothing but is somehow smarter than anyone here, but I can't keep wasting any more time. I have to help Bastian at the cafe and then do a stupid essay about a book I haven't read and definitely don't want to read. I'm just finishing my warm-up routine when Gemma appears next to me. I reach over to kiss her sloppily even though I'm really sweaty. I make sure to lick her mouth in the nastiest way I can find. She, as usual, doesn't care, but breaks away from me and punches my arm as she pretends to vomit, acting like she didn't love it. We all know that's a lie, I mean...this is me we're talking about...who wouldn't want to kiss me? Even Angie sometimes wants to, even if she doesn't want to accept it. Too bad I couldn't give her that treat. "I fücking hate you!" exclaims Gemma when she can pull away from me and wipes her mouth with fervor. I laugh at her and reach out my hand to stroke her hair and take the opportunity to tousle it as best I can, "Please could you behave for at least a minute? I have something to tell you."
