Angie asks me what's wrong but I can't muster up the courage to tell her because I'd have to tell her extremely embarrassing things. Maybe she's cool and all, but I don't think it's a good idea to tell her. I've never been to such a big, beautiful, fancy mall before. There are a lot of major stores where just breathing costs half a million dollars. Or, I should say pounds. Anyway, it's all very expensive and I don't even plan to go near it. However, Angie tells me that Lion has plenty of money so she gives me permission to buy whatever I want. Maybe I should buy "normal" clothes so Lion stops making faces when he sees what I'm wearing, or so people at BM stop saying I just want attention and I'm desperate for sëx (even when technically they're absolutely right) but I don't want to. I buy close-fitting cropped tops, mini-skirts and other things that show off my legs, and pretty lingerie in case I ever get up the nerve to seduce someone. I also buy shoes and other things that are not so necessary. "Wow, sweetheart, you really need to get a little tan," the woman who tends the makeup section laughs, "Wait a moment here while I go get your shade." She goes to get my makeup and I start arranging the lipsticks by color. There are 102 of them and it's fun to move them around until everything is arranged from the lightest to the darkest shades, but it makes a couple of girls think I work here and come up to me. "Sorry, I'm not an employee," I reply, stopping rearranging. I turn to the girl who asked me the question and give her a smile. She says she's sorry and starts to leave, but before she does she stares at my eyes for a few seconds and then her face lights up with recognition. "You're that girl, right, the one from Beast Maker? Alpha Lion’s daughter?" she asks with an accent much stronger than anyone I've ever met before and pulls on her friend’s arm. They are both much shorter than me and make me feel like a giant monster, "Look, Laney, it's the omega we were talking about yesterday. The half-wolf. We go to all the fights, we were there when the New Kid debuted." "Yeah, it's me... uh," I look over to Angie, but she’s in a conversation with someone and not paying attention to me, "I've got some stuff to do so..." "Wait. I've never believed all that gossip, but I'm seriously interested to know if you're with Grayson or with the other guy, the beta. What's his name, Dexter?" "Baxter. And I'm not with either of them, we're just friends." "Then why haven't you been answering Grayson's calls? He's gorgeous and so funny," her friend Laney tells me, sounding annoyed. As if she has the right to demand anything from me. She lifts her hand to put it on my arm, "I think you should..." I get too flustered by her unexpected touch and as I move back so I can leave, I accidentally hit the lipstick rack with my elbow and send them all to the floor. The girls stand back gasping as they fall and then walk away, subtly laughing at me. "Mid, come here!” Angie says, but I just bend down to pick up the mess I've made. A female employee tells me it's no problem, but she's smiling in a forced way. "Seriously, I can pick it up," she insists, when I make no attempt to leave and just keep picking them up, apologizing every time I see one destroyed, "It's okay, girl, just stop!" I immediately get up and walk over to Angie and the saleswoman, who takes advantage of how bad I feel to sell me as much as possible. I end up with stuff for my skin, to look more tanned, to make my makeup last all day, for my lips, for my eyes, for my eyebrows and a thousand other things. In short, I have a lot of new things. When we get back to the apartment I realize how much I bought and how much I spent. I start to feel bad for taking advantage of my father in this way, but then I start to see all the nice things and that remorse disappears. By dinner time, I put on a new pair of jeans, a crop top that reveals my belly button and and a soft pink sweater. I fix my hair and Angie shows me how to use some of the products I bought. "Are you ready?" asks Lion the moment he arrives, towel on his head, "I'll take a five minute shower and then we can go." I start to get nervous then and when Lion comes out of his room, completely dressed up, as if he's spent much more time than seven minutes and forty seconds on his appearance, I hand him the card. "I spent a lot of money, I'm sorry," I confess, and he just looks at me as if he doesn't understand, "I bought a lot of things I don't need but thought were cute. I can return them and I'm really sorry for taking advantage of..." "Mid, shut up," he puts a hand on my shoulder, "I don't have time for this. I don't care if you spent a lot of money, Angie does that all the time. Now stop feeling bad and start walking." He pushes me out and when we’re in the lobby we run into Angie, Grayson and Bastian. I'm not ready for this, I'm definitely not. They can all tell something is up because from the moment I approach them, I lower my gaze and refuse to make eye contact. Gray sighs audibly but doesn't say anything, thankfully. "Would you mind sitting in the back this time?" Lion asks me, opening the back door of his truck for me. I tell him I don’t mind but the truth is, I'm a little annoyed because that means I have to sit next to Grayson and that this Elena girl is more important than me. I mean, I'm fully aware that he just met me and all that, but I'm his daughter. I should matter more than girlfriend #3 who everyone considers a walking disgrace. "Hey, Mid," Gray whispers next to me as I get into the van and close the door behind me. Angie and Bastian went to the back row and in theory I shouldn't have to be next to Gray, but of course he scooted over until our legs are touching. I turn to the window and tell myself I won't turn to him no matter what, "Come on, don't be like that. It wasn't such a horrible thing, it didn't bother me. In fact, it made me come harder." "Please shut your mouth. Don't talk to me," I ask, my voice shrill. I consider opening the door and throwing myself out into the street but I settle for closing my eyes and squeezing myself towards the door to get as far away from him as possible, "I don't want to talk about it." "But..." "Grayson, back away," Lion orders as he enters the van as well, "If she's embarrassed, leave her alone." "Did you tell him what happened?" Gray asks with wide eyes, but I quickly deny, "Fine, whatever. I won't talk to you if that's what you want." He slides to the other end of the seat and looks out the window just as I do. The rest of the drive to Elena's house passes mostly in silence and whispers from Bastian and Angie behind us. Lion gets out of the van to greet the woman when we arrive and through the glass I watch as he walks up to her and kisses her in a sweet way. Elena is pretty in a more classic and simple way, but I think that out of the three girlfriends, she is the prettiest. Theresa is the most sensual and Gracie is the hottest, the one who dresses up the best, but Elena is just pretty in a natural and elegant way. As she enters the van, she turns to the back. "Hey, guys," she murmurs, and then her eyes find mine and she gives me a shy, scared smile. Maybe just like the one I give her, "You must be Midnight, right? It's a pleasure, I'm Elena. You look a lot like Lion." "Yeah... yeah, I'm Midnight," I answer, feeling nervous and reaching out a hand towards her, but that makes everything very awkward because she has to get in a very weird position to get her hand out. After that we stay quiet and Lion stares at us with some expectation in his eyes for us to say something, but then he sighs and starts the van as Elena turns to the front again. Grayson snorts and laughs, but when I look over to him, he just gives me an annoyed look and turns back to the window. Maybe he's upset because I haven't replied to him all day but, what did he expect? what happened yesterday was the most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to me in my entire life, I need some time to recover. I just stare at him until we get to the restaurant and even though I know he feels my stare, he doesn't turn around once. Once we are seated at the table, I accept that he is mad at me but I don't mortify myself because I don't plan to feel bad about being embarrassed. I end up sitting next to Elena and we start talking in a very comfortable way. I don't understand why Gray complains about her, she's very nice and she's just as nervous about me as I am about her. She's not annoying like Theresa and she doesn't want to force our friendship at all costs either, she's just nice. Gracie... I only met her for half a minute, but she didn't seem very nice to me. Anyway, Elena is my favorite so far, and even though my day wasn't the best in the world, I have a good time chatting with everyone except Grayson and eating the world's most delicious vegetarian pasta while Lion feeds me little pieces of his steak. The meat is actually delicious but I remind myself I need to take it easy before I go full on carnivore. "Midnight, can you join me outside for a moment? I need to talk to you," Gray suddenly asks me, interrupting something Bastian was saying and startling everyone. I haven't even finished eating. "No," I reply, frowning, "I'm sorry, but I don't..." "If you don't come with me, I'll tell everyone what happened yesterday," he threatens and looks at me with defiance in his eyes. My heart stops and I drop my fork to my plate. "You wouldn't," I whisper, unsure. Gray just stared at me, "It was embarrassing for you too, wouldn't you..." "I don't know what embarrassment feels like," he says, with a wicked grin and takes a breath, "Listen, yesterday when we got home from the club, I left Mid safe and sound at the door of her apartment and came back..." "Grayson," Lion warns, taking a big breath. "...I went back to my room as I normally would. I plopped down on my bed and, since I was all alone, I thought it was safe po..." "Okay," I jump up as I realize he's seriously going to do it, scaring Elena and making Gray smile victoriously. He gets up too and we walk in silence to the outdoor part which is thankfully empty. I shiver a little from the cold but refuse to cover up because I want everyone to see my cute belly button. "What do you want to talk about?" "About the fact that you're ignoring me and I don't fücking like that," he starts, crossing his arms, "What happened yesterday was porn worthy and I loved it. It's not that big of a deal, I want you to stop feeling bad.” I don't even answer anything, I just stare at him trying to make him understand that I don't want to talk about it. I lean my back against a wall and let out a tortured sigh. "Angel, you don't have to feel embarrassed. Not with me," he assures and reaches a little closer to touch my arm but I move it so he can't, "What do I have to say to make you feel better?" "Say you can forget about it and never talk about this again," I beg, but he shakes his head, "Ugh, I just wanted to spend more time with you but when I saw what you were doing and it was so.... I couldn't help but want to stay there and keep watching it. It was bad, I know, and I seriously regret it." "But I liked it," he whispers, with a smile that tries to reassure me, "And if those little muffled sounds you were making are any clue, I think you liked it too." "That doesn't matter. If things had been the other way around, I can't even imagine how mad I'd be at you for doing that." "No, no, don't even talk about the possibility of that," he closes her eyes as if he’s imagining it, "You do it a lot, Angel? How do you do it? What do you like? Do you have toys?" "Ugh," I complain softly and look around to check that we're still alone, "Yes, I do it often. I do it in a normal way I guess, I like a lot of things and no, I don't have toys, can we go back now?" "Of course we can't go back now," he laughs and his tongue comes out to moisten his lips, "You know what? Now that I think about it more, I am kind of mad at you for creeping on me like that. For getting into my home without permission, for standing there watching me, and for touching yourself without being kind enough to let me see it too." I open my mouth to explain myself, to apologize to him, but I can't. I've never felt worse. I should just go buy a plane ticket and go back to the place I should never have left because... "But," he continues, taking my face in his hands and lifting it up to him, "Don't look so tortured, everything has a solution." "No, not this. I'm so sorry, I'll never g..." "Yes, this does. You just have to repay me," he explains, "You know what I mean? You get something, you have to pay. Nothing is free in this life." "And what do you want in return for the horrible thing I did?" "I'm a righteous man," he says with a big smile, without letting go of my face, "I want the same. I want to see you do the same thing."
