Frenemies

{ Midnight } I have a plan. Gemma will be here any minute now and everything is set. Angie bought sweets and ice cream, we'll watch romantic movies, we'll paint our nails and we're going to talk about men and gossip about people we both know and everything is going to be splendid. And after that, I'm going to find out if she is who I think she is or not. ‘Gemma is on her way to your house from my bed, if she walks funny remember it's my fault. And if you miss me, smell her body to remind you of me.’ I laugh at Gray's text and just then someone knocks on the door. I give a little squeal of excitement and run to open it. Gemma is there, looking as beautiful as ever, except this time her hair is tousled and her makeup smeared. "Sorry if I was a little late, I was..." "I know what you were doing, no need to apologize," I assure with a smile and close the door as she enters, "Gray filled me in on what you did." "Oh," she opens her mouth and stares at me for a few seconds without blinking, "He really tells you everything doesn't he? Wow." "Not everything, obviously. There are things he hides from me, but that's okay," I reply and as we walk to my room, I tell her about the things I got for us. "Perfect, sounds delicious, but I need to take a bath first," she says and her cheeks turn red, "You see, I've been in this relationship with Gray for a long time and we've stopped using a condom, which is pretty... dirty." For some reason knowing that she's dirty with Gray's semen makes me feel a sharp twinge of something akin to jealousy right in my stomach. So much so that my wolf wakes up in my head just to let me know how upset she is with this information. "The bathroom is the first door on the right," I tell her, faking a smile and she grabs clothes from her purse before leaving. ‘I couldn't smell her because she came straight to the bathroom to wipe off the semen you left on her.’ ‘Oh, no :( I like it when she leaves it there.’ Another twinge of jealousy in the same place comes to me, along with a tingle in my nether regions and the knowledge of why I feel this: because I want to feel it too, just like she is. ‘Is it normal for me to want that?’ I ask him, biting my lip uncertainly and wiggling my foot anxiously. Gray is slow to answer. Thirty seconds, thirty-one, thirty-two, thirty-two, thirty-three, thirty-four, thirty-five.... ‘What do you want?’ he answers, finally. ‘You know what I mean.’ ‘I want you to tell me anyway,’ he answers immediately. And my fingers tremble a little as I type my answer. ‘I want to feel that inside me. Or on me, wherever. I wouldn't wash it out so fast.’ I swallow after I send it and Gray is silent for longer this time. So long that Gemma comes back from the bathroom with wet hair and cute pajamas on. So long that even when I put mine on and bring the stuff Angie bought to my room, he still hasn't answered. "...then Ryle, the main character, realizes she can't live without him and decides to forgive him. Just like that. Forgetting everything," Gemma tells me, taking another spoonful of strawberry ice cream. Talking about her favorite movie made her more excited than I expected her to be, "That's what makes me like her so much. She's just like me and... And I would never do that, but I like to see that she could." "Why wouldn't you do that? It's not that hard, forgiving someone. It's very easy, especially when it's someone you love. You just have to have a little trust." "Maybe for you it's easy because you're naïve, but for me it's not. I don't trust people much, let alone men," she shakes her head, "Alphas or betas, at the end they're the same. No matter how cute and innocent they seem at first." "You sound like you're speaking from experience," I murmur, chewing on some gummies, "Have you been hurt much?" "No, not much, but it's always the same. Every guy I've been with has treated me the same, and I thought Gray would be dif..." When she says his name she stands still, regretting what she said. "I won't tell him anything, easy. And despite whatever you think, I don't want him for myself," I reassure her. And it’s true, I just won’t mention all the dirty things I want and am going to do to him, "I don't even like him." That one is bullshït. Gray is very handsome, I do like him. I like him even more than I like Matthew. Less than I like Bastian, of course. Maybe on the same level as I like Henry. "When I met Gray, he wasn't like this," she begins and sighs, eating another spoonful of ice cream, "He was an extremely annoying, talkative nerd who only had two friends who were just as weird as he was and who was known for being a creep around girls.” What's she getting at? From where I'm standing, Grayson is still the same. "He wasn't as handsome as he is now, he wasn’t an alpha yet, he definitely didn't have that body and he didn't have any tattoos. He was small and skinny. And when I started talking to him I realized he was exactly what I was looking for. He was cute, smart and not at all like the other guys," she mumbles and at that moment my phone rings with a new message, but I don't look at it yet, "At first we went out on several dates and stuff, but he was kind of unbearable to talk to so I left him for a while. We got back two years ago, when he had changed." "What changed? He's still unbearable." "No, honey, you have no idea," she shakes her head and laughs loudly, "He was a hundred times worse than he is now. I guess he was told that a lot until he got tired of being like that. He started working out and I think that's what helped him get over it because he became calmer. He stopped spending so much time studying, cut his hair and started getting tattoos. The only thing that hasn't changed is how much of a creep he is with girls, except they don’t mind now because he’s a hot alpha." I realize that when I look at the message he sent me. "I had to take time to recover from what you said. I have no problem fulfilling your wishes, you know that. As soon as you're ready I'll do with you whatever you want. There isn't a single thing I'm going to deny you." "He seems to like you as much as you like him, why haven't you two started something serious?" I ask, comforting her a little as I squeeze my thighs together thinking about what will happen with me and Gray one of these days. "Because since he started being known around more clans, he keeps finding cute little angels like you," she murmurs, with more venom than I was expecting. Oops. "Sooner or later he's going to realize that you're the better choice and that little angels like me are never going to want him as much as you do," I tell her, putting a hand on her arm and giving her a somewhat sincere smile. That makes her let her guard down a little and for the rest of the night we actually have a good time. Or, at least I do. Gemma tells me things I didn't know about the people at BM and teaches me how to braid hair, and when she mindlessly puts the password on her phone, she teaches me how to get into her phone too, without even realizing it. She casually asks me if I talk to Gray a lot when she sees I'm texting him and she thinks I haven't noticed but she's been giving interested glances at my phone almost since she arrived. So, I make sure to delete all the pictures I sent Gray of my body and remove the password so she's free to check it. And when I tell her I have to go ask Angie something, I also make sure to leave my phone on the bed. I get out of my room leaving the door ajar. I walk to the front door with every intention of going to pay Gray a quick visit but I run into Quinn and Lion in the living room, watching TV and drinking beer. "Where do you think you're going?" Lion asks when he sees me walking with a purpose. Luckily the kitchen is nearby so I drastically change direction and walk over there. "I'm thirsty, am I allowed to drink water or are you expecting me to get dehydrated? I haven't had fluids since lunch and it's been four hours." "You can hydrate, but not too much, you're still grounded. Limit yourself to two sips." "Are you serious?" I ask, incredulous. But I hear the laughter of the two men and realize it's another one of their unfunny jokes. Werewolves have a lousy sense of humor. After drinking some water and wasting some time there, I walk very carefully to my room and when I get there, I peek through the small crack in the door. Gemma still has my phone in her hands and a prominent scowl so I decide to give her a little more time. Once I see that she has stopped looking at it, I open the door and nonchalantly walk in. She is now very tense and obviously angry but I pretend I don't notice. "Do you know who Cummings is?" I ask her a while later, whittling my eyes and yawning. "Cums? Yeah, Gray supposedly hates him, but they always play together,” she replies, lying down next to me on my bed. "Do you think he's cute? He asked me out, but I'm not too sure about accepting." "Well, he’s a beta and he's not exactly handsome, but he's attractive. You should go, at least to have a good time. And his family is rich rich, so he can take you somewhere nice." That leaves me thinking that I should respond as soon as possible to the message he sent me. I'm dying to go on a date and if it's with someone who can take me somewhere nice, I think that's a plus. I think about it until Gemma falls asleep. I wait two more hours and then move closer to her face to watch her eyes. When I can see she's in REM, I let out a sigh of relief and grab her phone from her purse. I leave the room immediately and walk on my toes towards the exit. Unfortunately, Quinn decided to sleep here today and is lying in the living room, not asleep at all. "Hey, Midnight, it's really late. Are you thirsty again?" he asks with a sideways smile and a knowing look, "Come on, go back to your room." "I need to tell Bastian something, it's an emergency," I lie, but he rolls his eyes in disbelief, "Please. It won't be more than five minutes. Don't tell Lion." Quinn stares into my eyes for several seconds but then sighs and gives up when I put my hands together to beg. "I guess I can pretend I'm asleep," he mumbles, and holds up a finger at me, "But you'll owe me something, Mid." "Sure, anything. Thanks," I thank him and get out of there immediately, grateful when I realize the door to Bastian's apartment is unlocked. I make my way quickly to Gray's room and enter without knocking.
