Mid jumps in shock and turns to me with her eyes wide in shock and one hand on her chest. Several of the guys turn and laugh.
"Excuse me, there's a problem. Can I return your call later?" She says on the phone and then hangs up, "Grayson! I was on the phone with someone! And everyone heard."
"They don't know why I called you that," I defend myself and grab her hand to pull her towards the ring, "I could be referring to what happened last night..."
"Stop it! Shut up!”
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry," I roll my eyes, "I forgot that 'never happened'."
"You're horrible," she whines and tries to push me away, but I don't let her. I bend down and put her on my shoulders, pretending I'm let her fall.
Midnight lets out an ugly, uncontrollable scream that makes me laugh and the look everyone gives us makes me remember why they say we're so weird.
"Stop besmirching my name and act like normal people," Lion mutters towards us as we climb into the ring, "Midnight, please let this be the last time you wear that to come to the gym. Use the money you make here, doing nothing I'd like to add, and buy yourself something sporty."
"Okay. But this was on the sporty section in the mall, so I thought it would be useful."
I personally quite like the way this looks on her. They’re sport shorts, but they might be a little too short. And they might be showing off half her äss.
"You thought wrong, as usual. But I don't have time to fight you," he grabs her by the shoulders like she's a sack of potatoes and arranges her in front of him, "First, assume this position."
Mid, of course, does everything Lion explains to her flawlessly. He doesn't have to repeat things to her a hundred times to get her to do them right (as he does to me) but Mid's skinny arms have no strength at all and apparently she still has little to no contact with her wolf, so she has only human strength, which none of us took into account.
So when she gets excited and hits the sack even though her dad told her not to, her hand makes a worrying sound when it collides with it and she lets out a scream that almost breaks the windows.
"Fück!" She exclaims, startling every person in the gym. I react before Lion and walk over to carry her on one shoulder just like I did a few minutes ago but now I take her to the infirmary. Well, to the small room where we keep a first aid kit with three things: alcohol, bandages and sedative injections, "My hand… Fück. Take me to a hospital."
"Gray, her knuckles are broken," Lion says as soon as we get to the room and I leave her there. He's right, when I look down I can see they're out of place, "Midnight, you need to let your wolf out. She will help you heal fast. There’s no need to go to the hospital.”
"I can't, I've tried. She ignores me," she whines, looking away from her hand and trying not to cry, "Just get me to a doctor before I pass out."
"Midnight, come on," Lion says, but she just shakes her head again.
"You have to make her. You're her father, man, you can subdue her," I remind him and Midnight frowns, but Lion nods when he remembers he has more alpha power with her, since he’s her father.
"Right," he nods and breathes to let his wolf out, "Omega, surrender and let your wolf out. Right now."
Midnight may not know what's going on, but I can still see her frown as if she's feeling something weird. I can't imagine what it's like to live without having your wolf in your head all the time, but...
"Right now!" growls Lion and Midnight lets out a whimper and raises her eyes that are suddenly dilated.
And as soon as I make eye contact with her... I know I'm screwed. Unbelievable screwed.
"Alpha," Midnight says, but she's not referring to her father.
Because I am her alpha, not him.
"Omega," my wolf says, taking control of my body and ending the distance between us. I take her sweet face in my hands, "Heal your body, please."
"I will, but I am still weak," she replies. My omega's voice sounds much deeper than Midnight’s, "I need meat. Tell Midnight to eat meat, I need it. She refuses.”
"I will," I promise, but I can't stop looking at her and trying to consume her with my eyes. She's so damn gorgeous. She smells divine, "Why hadn't we connected before, Omega? Why didn't I know we were compatible?"
"I don't have much control in the body, Alpha. Sometimes I disappear completely," she complains and lets out another whimper before Midnight squeezes her eyes shut and shakes her head. My omega is gone again, "What the hell happened? My hand feels better."
"She's helping you," I let her know and although she wants to pull away, I tighten my grip on her, lifting her face to mine again. Her mismatched eyes staring up at me, "You're mine, Midnight. You're my fated omega.”
"Huh?" she asks, frowning and drawing back. Her eyes flick to Lion, reminding me he's still here, "N-no. It's not that. My wolf just thinks you're hers, but that’s only because she’s…”
"Midnight," her father stops her, sounding nervous. I turn to look at him and realize he looks pale and more serious than normal, "I think it's true. You two really are fated mates.”
His words make me frown and let Midnight go. I star walking up to him, starting to feel the anger grow on me.
“You knew about this and didn’t tell me?” I demand. Lionel Vosse is a good alpha, practically my family and father of my omega, but I will kill him if I have to, “You think you can get in between us? You think you can keep me away from my mate?”
“Alpha, stop,” Lion says, shaking his head, “Let me talk to Grayson. This is more complicated than that.”
I growl, but I can’t stop myself from disappearing again when the human takes control again.
“What… the… fück?” I let out, my body going cold. This new information is fücking insane, “Dude, what the fück is this? Is it true? I don’t want a mate! I don’t want an omega, what the fück?!”
“Hey, hey, I know,” Lion says, swallowing and letting his body relax again. He puts both hands on my shoulders, “This is beyond all of us, Grayson. It’s destiny. I had an inkling, but I didn’t know for sure until now.”
“But… but, why?” I complain.
“I don’t know,” he says with a grimace, “I know it’s not what you want. And to be honest it’s not what I want for my daughter either. She doesn’t even know what this means…”
“Hey! Excuse me? I’m literally right here,” she complains, “I know what this means. I’ve read the books.”
“Reading a book won’t help you understand the intensity of this. You and Grayson are… you guys are going to be together for the rest of your life,” he says with a lot of emphasis to make her understand but it mostly makes me feel sick. I have to shake my head and walk away.
“Uh… no. I don’t think so, I don’t what that,” she says with almost boredom in her voice, which confuses me. This… thing. This compatible bond means we should be dying for each other.
But when I look at her I realize I don’t really feel it either. I feel normal again.
