Chapter 6Standing Rock did not make it by dawn the next day, but he wasn’t as late as I had feared. He was a naturally industrious young man, but homebuilding was woman’s work, and even though what we were constructing was no simple tipi, some of his attitude leaked out at times. I ignored it and set him to work leveling the plane where I intended to build the house. At midday, Dew Drop and Little Bear showed up. She had prepared a meal from the stores I sent her the previous afternoon. While my new helper and I labored moving dirt and rock, Dew Drop set about remaking my miserable hovel into a proper tipi.
