LAYLA’S POV
“Come on Layla, we are going to be late” Isa calls out from the living room.
“Be right there, just a sec” I yell back as I grab my sweater from the bed.
I steal one last glance at the mirror before I step out of my room.
Isabelle and I decided to go shopping today and I had spoken to my mom about it yesterday and she gave her permission. She’s been so supportive of my new journey.
I mean, what Mother wouldn’t be glad if her child stupid to bullies.
Speaking of my Mom, she’s still sick. But right now her cancer is still treatable and I can convince her to get treatment, but she’s still hiding it from us.
I just have to find a way to convince her, but I don’t know how.
“Hey Dad, Bryan, and Mom” I skip into the kitchen and open the fridge to grab a drink.
“Morning Sunshine” My Dad says
“Morning sweetie, credit card’s on table” She says with a smile.
I squeal and almost spill the drink in my hand. “Thank you so much Mom” I say with a huge smile on my face.
“Isa has been waiting for hours, little miss Cinderella” Bryan says as he bites into his burrito.
“It’s only been a few minutes and I didn’t take that long, this jumpsuit just took a while to fit” I gulp down the juice.
“It’s been forty five minutes Lay, and we have got a long day” Isa speaks from the doorway.
“But it’s just to pick a dress, how hard could it be?” I frown, screwing the bottle in my hand before placing it back in the fridge.
“Uh…hello, it’s not just any dress, it is the dress” She accentuates her words “A dress that must guarantee your win at the pageant and it has to be Perfect” She said grabbing my arm and leading me out the kitchen.
“Woah… slow down tiger” I giggle.
“Well we can’t be late now, your dress has to be perfect and perfection takes time and time is something we definitely don’t have” She grabs her purse off the couch.
“Bye Mom, Bye Dad, Bye Bryan” I shout back as Isa pulls me out the house.
“Take care of yourself, Curfew is by seven” My mom shouts back.
“Okay… love you” I don’t think she heard me though.
Just as we are about to walk out the lawn Bryan calls out to us.
“Guys wait up” He utters as he takes long strides towards us. “Are you guys going to walk to the clothing store?” He asks.
“Um…no, I was thinking of getting us a cab” Isa replies as she scans her purse.
“Let me just drop you both off, I’ve got to get somewhere anyways” He says nodding towards his truck.
“Thank you Bryan” Isa says and he replied with a slight nod.
The ride to the store was shorter than expected. Bryan wasn’t going easy on the peddle and I think my soul left my body a couple of times.
The car comes to an abrupt stop jolting me to the front. My seatbelt pull against my chest making me wince. I sat at the back seat because Isabelle called shotgun.
Now I don’t even envy her.
“We’re here” He utters softly
“No s**t! James bond! You could have killed us” I shriek.
“Uh…you do remember you’re a werewolf right? You both are” He said as a matter of fact.
“It doesn’t matter, you psycho!” I scolded “Look, Isa is literally frozen in her seat” I scoff and clamber out of the car.
I open the phone seat and guide a stiff Isa out the car, the tension in her body dissolves immediately she gets out of the car.
“Are you okay?” I ask her and she lets out a disgruntled sound.
I send Bryan daggers as he scratches the back of his head. “When you get home, take Mom to the hospital” I said as I focus back on Isa
“Mom?” He sends me a weird look.
“Look we both know Mom is hiding something, you know it and I know it too, and whatever it is, may be one of two things, she took a loan and can’t pay, or she’s sick” I say and he lets out a defeated sigh.
“Why didn’t you say anything sooner?” He asks softly.
“Well I have said something now. Bye. Oh and drive slowly” I warn
“Not if I have to get Mom to the hospital, take care” He says and zooms off.
Isa seems to be coming out of the shock little by little and she was breathing heavily already.
“Your brother is a maniac” She says blinking rapidly.
“Tell me about it, come on let’s get you a coffee” I say softly.
“Yeah, I could definitely use a drink, but not coffee” She remarks and I chuckle
“No, that looks like you’ve been put in sack” Isa utters as she looks up from the book she was reading.
“Oh come on, it’s been two hours and we are still yet to get a dress” I complain.
“Well, unlike you, I’m not going to the pageant wanting to win the whole thing” She raise a brow and I deadpan.
“Okay fine, I’ll come check myself. Since you’ve got all the poor choices now” She teases
Oh, tell me about it Isa, tell me about it. I have made bad choices my whole life, thank the moon goddess for a second chance.
She pulls out a royal blue ball gown from the rack. It was the only on in that rack and it was extremely beautiful.
“Here, try this on” She says and walks to the shoe stand. She picks up a snowball colored blue shoe and hands to me.
“Here, go try them on” I rush into the dressing room to try it on.
I really hope it fits.
I slip into the dress and it fit like a glove. The upper part of the dress held up my boobs in a decent manner, the armless dress showing off my lean shoulders and accentuating my collar bones. The latter part of the dress flows like a wedding dress. I felt like a princess. I step into the shoes and they disappear under the dress adding a little to my height.
There was no mirror in the dressing room, but I already felt so good in this dress. I’ve never felt so pretty.
“Come on Layla, what’s taking you so-“ Her words stop midway and gasps.
“Oh my God, who are you and what have you done with my best friend” She teases.
“Oh stop it” I could help my smile.
“You look extremely beautiful, heads are gonna roll! Literally!” She says and we both bust out laughing.
