It’s a rainy day in Alandro one of the biggest cities in the country known as Saril, this is where Bryce Adams resides. The weather and traffic has contributed greatly to getting him late to work on a Monday morning. It’s twenty to nine and he has a business meeting with a big potential client and he is already ten minutes late, not a good impression at all.
It is not like him to arrive to work late he is usually the first person to get there for he is always punctual. Unfortunately today his tyre unexpectedly got punctured and he had to change it, it is then he wished he had bought himself a spare car.
He is driving to work as fast as he can while listening to the radio in his Volvo S90 black car when a call from Dina James, his secretary comes through, “Good morning Sir, I’m calling to let you know that Mr. Brown has been waiting for you for ten minutes now and he is getting impatient.” “Damn! I was hoping he would also be late anyway I’m almost there, thank you Dina,” he growls as he hangs up.
Bryce hurriedly strides into Junior Centre building and heads straight to the waiting room where he finds Mr. Brown glancing at his watch. He sincerely apologizes to him for being late and because he is such a smooth talker Mr. Brown accepts his apology and Bryce gets him laughing and smiling all the way throughout their meeting. Bryce Adams is a charming intelligent young man who is very good with words and this has always helped him succeed in a lot of areas.
At the young age of twenty six he is already a manager, working for a company that manufactures children’s clothes, toys, food, toiletries and many more products. The company is one of the top leading brands in the industry and its premises are one of the largest in town.
The meeting ends well with Mr. Brown mirthfully agreeing to sign a contract with Junior Centre. The board of directors are highly impressed and re assured that Bryce Adams is indeed the right man for the job, they made no mistake hiring or promoting him. “Congratulations Mr. Adams,” Dina gives him a wide cheerful smile as she enters his office to drop off the documents he requested for.
“Thank you Dina,” he utters proudly and smiles back at her.
Bryce is married to his job and it keeps him too busy to think of pursuing a love relationship, a lot of women have their eyes on him but it’s like he has gone blind for he doesn’t even notice it. All he thinks about is how to make millions for JC, move up the ladder and one day get promoted to C.E.O.
He is very ambitious and dedicated. Within a short period of two years working in the company he has already moved from being a market researcher to brand ambassador and finally to manager.
He doesn’t have much time for any sort of relationships as he thinks they are an unnecessary distraction full of never ending drama that he doesn’t need as it would only end up affecting his focus on his job as well as his vision.
Pete Jacobs is the only close friend that he has ever had. They befriended each other at his former job where they both worked as sales agents. Pete is a short chubby man, who is fun to hang out with owing to his wonderful personality and his great sense of humour. Unlike Bryce he is married with two children, he is six years older than him hence he is more like a big brother to Bryce and he is the one he runs to for advice, favours or anything else he needs.
Being the only child in his family Bryce Adams is familiar with loneliness therefore living alone doesn’t bother him but there are times when one needs someone to share his concerns with and for him that someone is Pete.
In the evening Bryce gets an unanticipated visit from Pete, he was just about to finish warming up his takeaways in the microwave to have for dinner when Pete rang his doorbell.
“Man I don’t know how you survive eating this junk every night,” Pete can’t help shaking his head in disapproval. “Dude I don’t enjoy this one bit trust me but I don’t have the time to cook so this is my only option,” he sighs as he grabs a chair and starts digging into his plate. “You know you do have another option right?” “I do?” His eyes widen for he is eager to hear what that option is because he is so ready to take it. “Get a wife,” Pete giggles.
“You know Pete for a minute I forgot who I was talking to I should have known better nothing good was going to come out of your mouth.” “Well you are tired of these unhealthy takeaways that you eat every night right? Thence the best option is to get a wife who will cook healthy warm and delicious food for you.”
“I am not going to get married just so I can have home cooked meals. If that is why you married Selena then I feel sorry for her.” “Of course not there are more important things that a man needs besides home cooked meals, you do know what I am talking about right?” “No I don’t but I’m pretty sure you are dying to enlighten me,” “I’m talking about hot s*x, licking, sucking, caressing and…”
“O..Kay I think I get it now so please stop.”
Pete is a happily married man, his wife is a wonderful good woman and their marriage seems perfect and healthy for the two of them, even though Bryce acknowledges all that it doesn’t encourage him to marry and he still doesn’t picture himself settling down any time soon.
He glances at his watch, it’s now nine pm and Pete has made himself comfortable on the couch he is busy playing video games and it doesn’t look like he plans to leave any time soon. He has been there for three hours already and Bryce is exhausted he wants to go through some work files and get to bed but he can’t do that, not when Pete is around and making annoying noises with his video games.
“What are you still doing here man, why don’t you go home to your wife and kids?” Bryce had hesitated to ask but he couldn’t hold himself any longer. “Geez dude, am I boring you?” He pauses his game to stare at him with his eyebrows raised up. “Yes!” Bryce yells while throwing his hands.
“Well I’m sorry that sucks for you because I’m not going anywhere right now. For your own information Selena and the kids are having dinner at her mom’s house and I just don’t feel like being alone. So forgive me I will only leave when my wife tells me she is back home.”
Feeling defeated and out of options Bryce collapses on the couch with his hands folded against his chest. Pete ignores his friend’s gloominess for he knows he will soon get over it. Friends are entitled to sticking around even when they are unwanted and they are also entitled to abusing each other, that’s what he tells himself to justify his actions.
“So what are you going to do on Sunday?” Pete jabs him with his elbow when he catches sight of him drooping his eyelids about to fall asleep. “What’s happening on Sunday?” “Didn’t you say it’s your secretary’s wedding, what’s her name again?” He snaps his fingers as he tries to recall her name. “Dina,” Bryce reminds him. “Ooh yes, Dina James, she is a beautiful little thing,”
“Don’t talk about her like that, you are a married man. Ooh man I had totally forgotten about the wedding I can’t afford to miss it and I really need to get Dina a gift.” “Forget the gift, you need to get yourself a date dude otherwise you are going to be looking lost, alone and miserable.” “As much as I hate to admit it you are damn right but don’t worry I think I know just who to ask to be my date to the wedding,”
“Really? Well are you going to tell me who it is?” Pete is impatient and eager to know which hot babe has caught his friend’s attention. “Janet,” he discloses.
“Janet Jules! No way! Hell no!” he huffs.
