As the day passed with a lot of things happening around, I wonder what exactly peace means? Peace could be anything, living together with your loved ones and being happy. Or being silent and isolated to fix your broken self. Or just letting the world die in chaos because in the end, there will be peace.
I was sitting inside the library with a window beside me. Today, it's not a pleasant day as all the incidents lead me to a state of depression. I might have pretended to be okay from the outside but from the inside, I was enraged. Not just enraged but hurt. Abria's words cut me deep and even though I knew it was just an excuse she was making to prove her idiotic statements right, i can't do much to punish her.
She has been hurt and depressed but it is just a matter of perception. If I had said something about her actions or just punished her, it would have made her furious and she might have attempted to harm herself and everyone around her. I saw a little trailer of her powers that day, but in case if i haven't reached on time, the whole place would have been turned into ashes.
I closed the book in front of my eyes because I couldn't focus. My mind has been occupied with several other issues of the kingdom and a recent one is Abria.
I rubbed my palms together and placed them on my face to relieve stress. Suddenly, there was a knock on the table and I got alerted. I turned to look at him and a smile curled up to my lips.
"Dwyn? How are you? And how was your training today?" I asked him about his day.
He dropped on the stool next time and sighed loudly. Today, he appeared a little stressed which was really odd. As far as i know, he took his work seriously and didn't show any sign of exhaustion until the job was done.
"It was good… I learned of a new strike and uncle Zohar was really proud of me. He had me run for a thousand laps on the horse. You know I ate horse riding but I have learned to improve myself. Anyway, enough about me. Where were you today, mom? There were no meetings scheduled for today and I haven't seen you in the hall. Is everything alright?" He sensed that unusual feeling I had and that was the last thing I wanted to happen. I want to keep him out of this mess.
My problems are mine and I have already discussed them with Daphne. Dwyn is young and learning. His days are golden and I can't burden him with my problems. I smiled at him and caressed her cheeks. It’s been a while since the last time I touched my child affectionately.
"I just had a day off.. the queen too needs a holiday… perhaps, there is no day when a queen can rest. Even today when I had no meetings or any work, I wasn't entirely free. I am always occupied with my duties as a mother." I responded calmly while brushing my fingers in his hair.
Dwyn frowned and stared at me, "come on, mom… your kids are now grown ups and they can take care of themselves… so that means you don't have to perform your motherly duties all the time. So what I suggest is, you should go back to your room and take a rest… and this golden son of a frost queen, he will prepare a hot meal for his lovely mom…" he placed his hands on my shoulder and leaned to kiss me on the cheeks.
His compassion and attitude made me realise that my way of raising him wasn't wrong at all. But will I ever tell him that I cannot let my guards down as a mother, never ever, and not for Abria. She is the one that needs attention mostly. Her silence is quite terrifying and I need to keep her always under someone’s eyes.
"Is Abria that bothered you?" Suddenly, he asked me about Abria which I did not expect from him.
I sighed and nodded my head in agreement.
"Yes… she is the reason for my concern. As she hasn't lived here and knows nothing about this place, it's ancestry and history, it will be very difficult to cope up with her." I rubbed my temples.
"I know and I understand the situation. The way she reacted to me, I guess that she is going through some mental stress. If we expect her to consume everything and get along with everyone, it will be a pain in ass. She has been spoiled by da…i mean, elijah... and that's exactly what she wants from us. I don't think it will work out this way. Maybe, we should give her some time to adjust but meanwhile, we should keep an eye on her… i hope you know what I mean.." he instructed me very briefly and I wondered if my little baby boy had grown up and become the man I wanted him to be.
I smiled internally and patted his shoulders.
"You have an ideal potential to become a king, you know you have those qualities that a great ruler requires." I said.
He looked a little troubled, "mom… I am not sure about this king and queen stuff, more I don't think I will be an appropriate candidate for this title." He admitted.
"What do you mean?" I was shocked by his words because I have never seen him saying something like this before.
Since the day Abria was abducted and Dwyn was my everything, I decided that he will follow the legacy and that's why he was trained better than anyone else.
"I mean, the ruler is supposed to be Abria as she is the first born among us. Moreover, I never thought of becoming the king anyway, so…" he pressed his lips in a flat line.
I was wondering and thoughtful about his statement and replied calmly, "I haven't decided who will rule the kingdom after I demote from this position. And whatever it will be, it will be based on one's true character, skills, his mind abilities… not just because someone is born earlier or later…. Do you ever think that I will make it easy for you or Abria…"
"Whoa. I was expecting this but thank you, mom… I know what I have to do… you are the best.." he smiled at me.
"Now, please, just have some rest and we will talk about it later.." he kissed my cheeks and was about to leave when i stopped him.
“Dwyn…” i called him.
He turned to look at me confusingly.. “Yes, mom..”
“Son… I have to ask for a favour from you…”
“No… you will order me like usual… Please, don’t embarrass me by saying something like this, you need a favour or something. You are my mother and you hold power to this kingdom… just give a command…” he put his hands on the waist while looking at me.
“Fine… it’s an order that you will never leave your sister alone. As you know, she is lonely because she thinks she is different among everyone here. I want you to be his company. Not just a company but you need to keep an eye on her…” i said.
He was confused, “but why? Is everything okay?”
“I don’t know much about her nature and abilities. She did not want to bond with me, so you are the one she can trust a bit. As her brother, it’s your duty to protect your sister. And, you need to know her. What she likes and likes, dislikes, her complex nature… I need to know more about her powers… I have heard that earlier, she was out of control.. I don’t want that happening again…”
“Don’t worry, mom. I will not leave her side. Besides, I will make sure she will adjust here soon… just need a little more time to fix everything.`` He smiled at me gently and I knew he was never going to disappoint me.
“Thank you, sweet…”
