The minute I heard Berke’s voice in my head I rushed to turn around so Kalli wouldn’t see my eyes glaze over from the mind link. I heard her stumble on her words as she spoke to Luccio. So I know she noticed how out of place my actions were, even though I tried to play it off by reaching for my cell phone.
“Kane, what is your ETA?”
“I’m about forty minutes out.”
“Still? The three of us were supposed to talk before the briefing tonight. Are we pushing that conversation until after then?”
“Yeah, if we can. Berke, I don’t plan on coming home alone. Can you spread the word that a human will be on pack land tonight? Before you get upset I promise to explain what I learned today to you and Ryker.” There was nothing but silence on the other end but I knew the link was still open.
