Not Used to Rejection

2460 Words
Kalli I laid there in my bed and stared up at the ceiling. You would think after what I had just been through that sleep would come easy, but it didn’t. I tossed and turned all night long. There was so much pent up energy in me and I could feel it coursing through my veins. If it weren’t Saturday I’d head to the club and exhaust myself with drills. But there were always too many people there on the weekends.  My fingers began tracing the outline of my lips, something they had done at least a hundred times since last night. My mind started to wander, and I realized there was another way for me to release some energy. One that didn’t require me to leave the house, or even my bed.  My fingers moved from one set of lips to the other. Gently, I separated my folds and began to slowly make circles around my clit. It didn’t take long at all before my body started to register the pleasure I was feeling and I closed my eyes. I knew it would be his face that I saw, but I hadn’t expected the rest.  When the picture became clearer, Kane and I were sitting by a pond, and soon he was kissing me. My body exploded the exact same way it had last night when I was physically with him. Not once have I had a fantasy this vivid so let's see what else my mind can come up with.  When he broke our kiss I imagined straddling him and removing his shorts. Damn my imagination was on point today because the member that greeted me when those shorts came off was absolutely perfect. Even though I knew it wasn’t real I couldn’t help but lick my lips at the sight of it.  My fingers moved from my clit to my core and I teased my entrance before slipping in one finger and then another. Holy s**t, this feels good. Keeping my eyes closed tight, I was afraid that even the slightest bit of actual sunlight would cause me to lose this daydream.  Would I ever get the chance to know how it would feel to actually be with him? To be able to run my hands over his body while his fingertips dig into my flesh. To see if we really fit together as well as we do right here in my fantasy? As my fingers continued to pump in and out I felt the warmth of my oncoming orgasm building. When I exploded I called out his name and pretended that he came with me. My eyes fluttered open and it took a couple of blinks before I could once again see clearly. Damn, with a fantasy as good as that one I may not need to bother with any men for a really long time.  Feeling energized I decided to get up and ready for work. I walked out of the courtyard and greeted Mr. Wilson, as usual.  “What's new, Mr. Wilson?” I asked stopping right in front of him.  “Shouldn’t I be the one asking you that today?” He gave me the same knowing look my father used to when I was up to no good. “I saw you come home this morning. A piece of advice, baby Blue. Those who keep the company of wolves must learn how to howl. You watch yourself now.”  I let out a small laugh and shook my head. “I’ll make sure to keep that in mind. See you tomorrow.” One of the first things I learned when I moved here was that New Orleanians had a special way of explaining things. Even now, after all the years I've been here if I didn’t fully understand a saying I would just smile politely and move on.  When I got to work it was already busy, as was common the closer we got to summer. Soon Mike would have us back to being open twenty-four hours which was fine by me. Tourists equaled money and none of us complained at the end of a shift when our pockets were full.  Nicco and I were working together again tonight and so far our conversations had remained solely about business. It was almost closing time when I stepped outside to empty the trash. When I was done I walked back in and shut the door. Out of nowhere I was hit with a strange sensation, similar to what people describe as butterflies in their stomach. There was no reason for me to be nervous so I couldn't figure out what could be causing it. Until I heard a familiar deep voice. “Is there a Kallisto here?” He asked Nicco.  Nicco didn’t respond. He looked Kane over and then hardened his own face. When I swung the door open both men turned to look at me.  “Kalli, customer,” Nicco said flatly. My eyes met Kanes and he watched me as I walked over to where he was sitting at the bar. Completely taken aback by his presence I had to clear my throat to make sure my voice came out clear and steady.  “I didn’t think I’d see you again,” I said. My words made him smile and he nervously ran his fingers through his hair.  “Don’t worry I’m not stalking you or anything like that. I uh, just wanted to check in with you and see how you were feeling after last night.” “Really good,” I said breathlessly. When I realized how the words sounded as they flew out of my mouth I shut my eyes in embarrassment and shook my head.  “I’m glad to hear that, but I mean how are you handling everything with the attack?” His eyes sparkled with amusement and I saw him stifle a laugh. “What f**k is he talking about Kalli? Were you attacked last night?” Nicco had obviously been eavesdropping on our conversation. He moved closer to me and his hand gripped my elbow.  When Kane noticed I saw his nostrils flare and his face suddenly became serious. I could practically feel the anger rolling off of him. “Um, I guess you could say that. It was the guy we had to throw out after closing last night. I'm assuming he followed me.” I removed my elbow from Nicco’s grasp and took two steps away from him.  “Why didn’t you tell me?” “There’s really nothing to tell. Kane here runs a security company and two of his employee’s chased the guy off. It’s honestly not a big deal.” Nicco stared at me wide-eyed probably due to how passive I was being about the whole situation. He finally shook his head and threw his hands up. “Yeah, if you say so.” He walked back to the other end of the bar and yelled out announcing last call.  “I didn’t mean to put your business out there like that,” Kane said.  Swatting my hand in the air I did a quick eye-roll in Nicco’s direction. “Thank you for coming all the way out here to check on me. You didn’t have to.” “I know. But I didn’t have your number and I wanted to tell you that our doctor got your results back. The report showed small traces of ketamine in your system, that’s what caused the allergic reaction. I gave the police your name and address too. So if there's anything they need they'll reach out to you directly.” “Thank you. You know last night was pretty crazy so I didnt even think of this at the time. But what do I owe you guys for the medical care?” “Not a thing. In situations such as these, we are able to help pro bono.” “I can’t accept -”  “I insist,” Kane said, interrupting me.  “At least let me buy you a drink to thank you. It’s the least I can do.” “You’ve already thanked me.” His words came out raspy and I could literally feel his eyes roaming over every inch of my body. My mind instantly went to my daydream earlier and I was forced to squeeze my thighs together to ease the ache.  “Kalli, didn’t you hear me? Time to close up.” Nicco’s voice pulled me back and I glanced past Kane and saw the last of the customers leaving the bar. “Thanks for checking in on her. I’ll make sure she gets home safe.” Nicco had squared up to Kane and the two of them looked like they were about to have a pissing contest.  “Actually, Kane had already offered to give me a ride home. So he’s going to hang out while we close up. What kind of drink can I get you while you’re waiting on me?” Nicco mumbled something under his breath but I couldn't care less what he was saying.  “Yes ma’am, two fingers of Jameson neat.” After I gave him his drink Kane went and sat at one of the tables by the door. He stayed busy on his phone while Nicco and I cleaned up in silence. When we locked up Nicco didn’t even say goodbye. He just immediately took off in the direction of where he normally parks his car.  Kane and I walked across the street where he proceeded to open the truck door for me. When I settled in I was hit with immediate deja vu. Not once did I think I would be sitting in this spot again, but I’m glad I am.  The bar is less than a five minute drive to my place and when Kane parked I wasn’t ready to say goodnight to him yet. I turned towards him and found that he was already staring at me.  “I’m not going to lie to you. My place is small, there’s no food, except a bag of chips. I can’t offer you a nightcap unless you’re ok with tap water and I have no air conditioning. But, if none of that matters to you, you’re more than welcome to come inside for a little while,” I said while watching him absorb everything I had just said.  “What kind of chips?” “Cheddar and sour cream,” I said, giving him a big smile.  “Hmmm, those are my second favorite. But I guess it’ll do.” Kane jumped out of the car and it felt like he was at my passenger door in no time. He held it open for me and then offered me his hand to help me step down. Well, this will prove if what I felt last night was real or not. I placed my hand in his and sure enough, sparks ignited up and down my arm. When I was out of the truck he continued to hold my hand until we were at my front door.  Once the door was unlocked and the key put back in my pocket Kane pulled on my arm and spun me towards him. With me firmly pressed up against his hard body he placed his free hand under my jaw and tilted my head up so I was looking at him. Before I could even start to breathe again he was kissing me, hard. He moved his hands to my waist so I placed mine on his lower back, slipping them underneath his shirt. When I made contact with his smooth skin the electricity I had begun to crave was there waiting for me. Kane now had me pinned in between him and the wall. He shifted his hips into me and his excitement was very noticeable. I felt his hand tightly grip my ass as he tried to pull me in even closer. His lips began to make a trail from my mouth, down my jawline to my neck. Before he reached a particular spot I heard him inhale sharply and his grip on me tightened even more.  Once again he started to kiss and suck and when I felt his teeth graze my skin I let out a sound no man has ever made me make before. Immediately I felt Kane stop everything and his body stiffened. His face remained buried in my neck while we stood there perfectly still for a few minutes. When his breathing had returned to normal he lifted his head up to finally look at me. His eyes searched mine almost as if he was looking to them for answers unknown. “Where the hell did you come from?”  “New Mexico,” I replied smartly.  At my answer, Kane closed his eyes and the tiniest laugh escaped. “Ms. Lykaios, you have no idea the things I want to do to you right now. But I’m going to have to be a gentleman here and ask for a rain check.” I stood there dumbfounded for a second before it hit me that he was really turning me down. Granted we didn't know each other at all and this instant connection was new and scary for me too. Despite the fact that my head understood all of that my heart still ached at the thought that maybe he didn't want me. “This is not me rejecting you. There is nothing I want more than to go inside with you and finish what we started out here. But I want to do this right,” he said as he cupped my face in his hands. His words answering the silent thoughts in my head.  He brought his lips back down to mine and gave me a soft kiss. The small gesture seemed to soothe the burn I had been feeling and my heart ached a little less. He ran his thumb across my cheek before he spoke. “So why don't you give me your number and then you tell me when I can see you again."
