New team
Don't you miss the feeling of my lips on your skin, my breath against your thighs, my hands roaming freely all over your body? You miss feeling me between your legs, my hardness sliding inside you, don't you My Dearest?
The buzz of the phone pulled Angelique out of her dream, bringing her back to Earth in a snap. With a gasp, the woman shot out of her bed, tangled with the blanket around her legs, to grab the very insistent phone that continued to buzz like crazy. When she grabbed it and looked at the screen she realized it was not someone who was calling her, but the alarm she had set to make sure she would wake up in time today. At ease now, she sank on her knees on the floor, holding the phone. It was past 8pm, and the sun was still struggling to set. Looking outside made her realize that if she did not know what time it was, she could have sworn it was morning and she had just went to sleep. These night shifts were still a whole lot to tend to. When her eyes closed, a flash from her last dream popped, vivid and very much alive in her mind, making her reach her hand up to her throat as if searching for a bruise.
Just a dream, wasn't it? It felt quite real... she inhaled deeply, a little shaggy and uneasy. I don't have time for this.
With determination, she pushed herself up, untangled the messy blanket and tossed it on the bed, hurrying on her tip toes to the bathroom, hands going through her long hair to pin it into a bun before stepping into the shower to freshen up. As water fell on her body, with closed eyes, yesterdays meeting popped in her mind. The Celestial Fragments. This sounded so very familiar, but not because Blanche decided to go on and on about how important they were to sustain the balance of the Universe, but because she could swear she had read this somewhere else. But where? it was not like she had time to read too much lately or that any past book she had read was not some sort of foreign comics or romance and erotica novels. What erotica novel could talk about such things?
From the little information they all had, these were bits of consciousness from around the universe, of old civilisations. But no one had any idea what they did, how they did it, where they were, how could their energy be harvested and used. There was little known information about anything revolving the seven known fragments. And all they knew was because just a couple of weeks ago, one of their satellite crashed back down on earth. The satellite seemed to have had interfered an extraterrestrial being who decided to share some of its knowledge with humans, leaving countless gibberish codes in every single memory unit of the satellite, overwriting the existing data. Most of the information was nothing more but gibberish and senseless looking codes, in quite a hard accessible language, more honest, if not actually impossible to translate at this moment.
Her mind came to a silent halt when she turned off the water. The waking routine was simple. Freshen up, comb hair, brush teeth, dress and go downstairs for food.
To think that it's been over a whole year since I've been recruited... a stray thought wandered her mind as she walked around the rather small bedroom, to the wardrobe, where she pulled her uniform out and on with ease. Who even knew I would get to wear such a uniform? She sighed, a lump setting in her throat as she closed up the front zipper, over her chest and to her neck. She fixed the sleeves before she braided her hair into a dutch braid starting from the top of her head and going down all the way, her braided tail reaching the curve of her back. With her heels on, Angelique reached 5'9, boots strapped all the way up to her knee, with firm laces to hold them secure around her calves, to support her ankles as well, and of course give her some extra height since she had been complaining about being short all of her life, until Blanche shut her mouth with her own comfortable heeled boots.
All set up, the woman walked out of her room, down the halls of the building heading for the cafeteria. But soon enough, she heard hurried footsteps behind her. She turned her head to see who was in such a hurry at this hour, and spotted Louise hurrying to catch up with her. She greeted him with a smile, which was not returned since the man was too busy with his papers.
"Active quite early today." Angelique commented after a few moments of silence in which the two walked together.
The man nodded his head shortly before looking at her through his glasses and pause for a few moments. There was something new about the woman, but he could not point it. He parted his lips to ask her if she had done something to herself, but he bit his tongue and swallowed his words.
" I've been up the whole day actually."
"Why?" the woman took the papers out of his hands to read them as well, but the man snatched them back, earning a low growl from her.
"No. Those are not for you. Blanche will explain everything. That reminds me... you should go see him as soon as possible." the man explained as he pushed the glasses up his nose, averting his gaze from her.
Confusion was drawn all over her face as she watched her companion who seemed to hurry his step.
"He'll tell you everything, I am not allowed to!" he almost whined, trying his best to not anger the woman, a little afraid for his safety.
Angelique bit her inner cheek as she watched the man hurry away in front of her, arms crossing on her chest as she started to wonder if she still posed a threat for everyone around here and that was the topic Blanche wanted to talk about.
"You should hurry! You know he doesn't like to wait!" The man spoke, taking one more look at her before turning right on the hallway to continue his path.
Her chest rose and fell with a sigh, as she turned around and started to make her way to Blanche's office, forgetting about her meal. If she was to be sent away, she did not want to have a full stomach and throw up.
Why do I always imagine the worse case scenario? What if he wants to just praise me for my great job during the last mission!? Yes.. yes. The mission where I ended up blowing a whole building, bring down one of our own helicopters and injure most of the backup team because i was too busy having fun? That exact mission... BUT at least I got to catch the specimen that got loose and started to torment the neighbourhood.
With hesitation, her footsteps came to a stop in front of the closed door, pondering on how to deal with all this right now. She reached her hand to open the door, but the door opened, and a very busy and distracted Blanche walked straight into her.
Angelique stepped back losing her balance, but Blanche reached his arm out, grabbing hers and pulling her back on her feet.
"You're here." the man looked her up and down with a stern expression. "Good. Come in." he let go of her arm and gestured for her to go ahead and enter first, as he stepped away from the door.
Angelique swallowed the lump in her throat and stepped inside, the door closing as soon as he entered as well.
Silence set over the room, as Blanche walked back to his desk, and opened his hologram screen, switching through some files, before opening hers. She watched from afar, reading between the lines. She found her old picture rather odd. She looked nothing like that anymore. No round baby face today at all. Who would have known she would change so much? Maybe it was her, or maybe it was all the training and strict regime they had here. Maybe she just finally had grown up and matured into a beautiful woman.
"Short fused temper, inhuman strength, speed, accelerated healing. Born with it all." the man spoke, falling into his chair, his black eyes moving to look at the young woman in front of him.
Blanche was one of the few people she had the opportunity to interact since she arrived at the facility. At around 45 years old, with peppered grey hair, pale with skin that rarely sees the sun, a tall frame and a thick trimmed beard, he posed as a father figure for her ever since she arrived here. He was the man that pulled her out of the strip club, recognized her powers, and did not sell her as the freak she was. He was the man that normalized her scale patterned skin, and made her feel normal, the man who gave her a second life.
"Part of the Omega operation team." he added as he noticed her stiffen up when he spoke. "How are you lately? How's training going?"
"Yes sir. Part of the Omega team." she nodded her head, and straightened her posture. "I'm great actually. I feel like we finally started to be a real team and work together like one when we are out there."
"That's a shame." the man muttered and breathed in as he pulled out a few paper sheets. "I always thought you won't fit there anyway." he added more or else to himself.
"What do you mean, Sir?" Angelique asked, her heart racing in her chest.
"The Omega team does not need you anymore." he stated plainly as he rose his eyes to the hologram screen.
"But Si-"
"We need you in the Alpha team. You are wasting time and energy when we find ourselves in such grave need of help for stronger recruits for our best team." with a push of a few buttons, the team from her file changed, as she was allocated to the Alpha operation team.
Angelique felt her knees weaken. She knew all about the Alpha team but never in her life had she dreamt about joining the mighty and powerful six.
"We find our hands full with something so inhuman we can't even explain. You don't posses too much experience, but your powers will be enough to get you through. Your new team will help you adapt fast, but if you dare slouch and drag them down, you're over. They need you sane, sharp and controlling your powers by yourself. No playing around chasing loose experiments or pretend hero. We need a real hero. Understood?"
Everything was happening so fast, thoughts were racing through her mind as she listened to the man, unsure of what to say or what to make of all this. To his question, she nodded her head. It was not like she could deny him. This was not an offer. This was an order.
"Yes, Sir!"
"Good. Head for the East quarters." he handed her a permit. "You're already being waited, your new team is ready to welcome you."
Angelique grabbed the permit and nodded her head.
"Pardon my curiosity, but what makes it so important for me to join them? They are supposed to be the best of all of us."
"It's not about them being not the best. It's about the Celestial Fragments case. I know your past team was assigned some study on this, with no success whatsoever. The alpha team is the one responsible with the actual case, and something came up, something that requires raw power in order to handle." the man spoke, his voice stern, a dash of uneasiness hidden. " You'll find about it all soon." he gestured for her to get out of the room as his phone started to ring.
Angelique bowed her head and walked out of the room, heart pounding on her chest as she stared down at the access permit. Class S cadet. Who would have ever thought?
