17. Slipping Away

Sana Papa came to our tent with his nose flaring at the familiar scent that littered around our space. My whole-body tenses, ready for his outburst and protective instincts to kick in, but to my surprise, he deflates and lays beside Mama on their chosen bed. Albie had long left my side once he thought that my exposure to him was enough for my already humanly weak body to recover from the exhaustion and the extreme cold from where we are. Papa arrived with the twins an hour or so after him. I’m long awake, but Papa just told me to lay back as the twins changed their clothes and crawled on either side of me to cuddle and keep me warm. I have no complaints and they didn’t either as they cling to my sides like my own personal heaters. We spent about a whole day just resting before I smell
