Beou and her mother arrived in the village shortly after five, and, after moving into Bang’s house, immediately started helping prepare the evening meal with Lek, her mother and grandmother. She didn’t need asking and didn’t have to ask what needed doing. Everybody knew what wanted doing and just got on with it.
