Chapter Eight By the time Lek was fourteen, she had accepted the fact that her life would be a traditional one, and that she would soon get married and start having children. It was all she had ever expected in her heart of hearts, but she had enjoyed school, and religious education at the hands of the monks was not a complete substitute. However, that was one thing, but she saw other working people going out to parties and enjoying themselves, and she was beginning to think that she worked hard enough to deserve some of that too. In short, she started to rebel and show the signs associated with a stroppy, moody teenager. When she had first started asking for permission to go to parties with Goong and Ayr, her father would just refuse point blank, until one night she was caught sneaking
