Chapter 16 The door of his room slamming open woke Euan with a start. The mix of pain meds and antibiotics made him drowsy and he was still in a half-fugue state as he tried to make sense of what was happening. His eyelids were leaden, his eyes slow to focus, and he couldn’t work out who the dark figure was who approached the bed. Whoever it was spoke loudly, but Euan’s senses were still battling his meds and nothing they said made any sense. He peered harder, the fuzziness slowly resolving. A hard slap to his cheek sent his senses reeling even more, and he cried out for help as his attacker grabbed his shoulders and shook him violently. “Get your hands off my son before I put you in a hospital bed yourself.” Relief replaced panic as Euan recognized his father’s voice.
