Part 6

"To Alec!" Ethan roared, raising his glass enthusiastically, jostling the liquid inside. They were at a new club that Alec had never heard of—not that he was anywhere near an expert on the clubs in New York. It's his first year in the damned city. So his cousins took it upon themselves to find a good place. Finally they managed to find a decent one with people dancing and mingling, no one getting too aggressive or crazy. That night might be the reason he decided to open a club of his own. An echo of cheers followed, and Alec grinned, raising his glass. They drank to him while the Alpha tried to savour the burn of the liquid as it slid down his throat. It's his first time consuming such a strong drink, and he's feeling warm, a strange feeling buzzing in his ears and throat. Edward asked the bartender for newly imported tequila so that Alec could try it. "Twenty-two years old, you're getting over the hill, brother", Erik hollered from down the table, and Alec shot him a look, feigning annoyance. "You're also twenty-two, Erik", Ethan teased him. "Hey!" "Ignore him, Alec. Happy Birthday, brother." Evan wished him, quieter, reaching out from his spot at Alec's right side to squeeze his shoulder. They were only five of them—Edward, Ethan, Evan, Erik and him chilling in the VIP lounge of the club. Others couldn't make it, primarily being engaged in their studies and work. "Thanks, Evan," Alec beamed, swirling his drink around. "Thanks for the pastries, too; they were divine." "You got him pastries?!" Erik twisted his lips, glaring at his twin brother. "And what did I get for my birthday?" "We share the same birthday! You didn't get me anything," Evan exclaimed. "Is my love not enough for you anymore?" Alec leaned back, not bothering in participating and instead of observing their silly banter contentedly. He couldn't help but grin as he took in the smiling, relaxed faces of his cousins. After getting away from his packhouse, his family, he had no one but them to rely on. The moment he got to New York, Edward was the first one to help him. The last time Alec saw all of them like this was during their family gathering a year ago. They were all going through slightly awkward stages, nervous about upcoming years, some worrying about going off to serve his time in the military, aka Carter, while some lamented over their future. Now, look at them. Every single one of them was busy with something. Just then, Alec's eyes caught sight of a girl from across the room. The Alpha had an instant reaction the moment he saw her. His throat parched, despite having so many drinks and water, fingers curling into fists by his side. The girl looked drugged, caught between a man who's almost twice her size and another guy who looked like he wouldn't even break a sweat snapping her in half. Mate! His wolf growled, the burning sensation spreading through his body like a wildfire. "Alec?" Someone tapped on his shoulder. It was enough to make his canines bare, eyes turning into slits. He bit back another growl. "What's going on?" The Alpha snapped out of it, shaking his head. "I found my mate." His brothers were on their feet, instantly crowding him, asking him hundred different questions. Alec couldn't stop staring at her from his spot, enchanted by a human. The sheen of her bright blue eyes as she blinked slowly, looking around as though she wasn't sure about her surroundings. "Calm down!" Alec yelled, standing on his feet. "I will answer all your questions once I talk to her" "She's here?" Ethan mused. "Yes. On the dance floor” They all whipped their heads to take a look at her, while also blocking him. “Now let me go." The Alpha strode in her direction, watching her as she tried to escape. But could not. Her limbs limp and uncooperative, rocking up onto her toes and twisting between the two bodies pinning her there. The soft, distressed sounds she made were like arrows to his heart. Her expression slowly twisted into something little and frightened, slurring out words even the Alpha couldn't understand with his supernatural hearing. Alec quickly figured out the two men crowding her were werewolves—Alphas at that. The night might end with them taking her away and doing unspeakable things. Just the thought of that made his jaw clench. Before he knew, Alec reached out in between them to drag a finger up the smooth, so far unmarked column of the human's throat. The heavy scent of lavender clouded his brain, making him freeze on the spot. "Sorry, boys. You have to let this one go," He breathed softly, not straining to make his voice heard above the pounding music of the club. One of the Alpha grunted, rocking her against his crotch. "Says who? Besides, she's the one who came onto us." The Alpha breaks the man's arm when he pulls it away. "This one isn't available for play," he repeats calmly, ignoring the man's anguished scream as he holds his arm well away from his body. "Or would you like to challenge my claim?" It must be clear now, who Alec was, or maybe they both noticed his cousins in the VIP lounge. Before he could utter anything else, the Alpha got a fearful nod from both of them. As soon as Alec released his hold, they were quick to disappear into the crowd. Both of them did not even dare to give him a second glance. Once they left, he instantly took hold of his mate, wrapping an arm around her waist. "Come with me," The Alpha murmured, taking her wrist in a tight grip and leading her along. Alec wanted his mate to be safe, away from all the noise and crowd. She was twisting and turning in his hold, shouting over the song in the club. And then, suddenly, the Alpha was pushed against the wall. His eyes widened when she pulled a silver blade over his throat, her torso pressed against his. From up close, he could see every pore, sheen on her pretty face. Alec’s c**k twitched in his pants. "Do you know who I am?" The young woman rolled her eyes, the flush on her cheeks deepening a little. They're pink and sweet, and the Alpha wanted her more than ever at the sight of it. His half-hard c**k was threatening to go fully hard. "You're the stupid Alpha who just f****d up my hunt!" She twisted her mouth, a frown taking over her features. His mouth dropped open at that. What did she mean by hunt? His mate dragged her eyes over his shoulder, twisting in his hold. "You have company which is why I'm letting you go. Consider yourself lucky, Alpha." Before he could say anything, she patted his chest and walked away. The lift on the far end corner of the room dinged, and she slipped in, quickly disappearing behind the doors. She's gone, out like a shot, leaving Alec blinking in her wake. *** The Alpha shook his head at the memory. It's been few years since the last time he saw her, but there was no recognition from her side. Did he mistake her for someone else? No. That couldn't be the case. Alec could recognise that face from several hundred crowds. That's how much she stood out to him. Not only because she's his mate, but also there's something about her. He could peel his eyes away, no matter what, following her every single movement. His heart raced, throat dry as a desert as she stood up, matching his stare. The Alpha patiently waited, hoping for her to recognise him. After all, they were destined to be mates. From the corner of his eyes, he noticed Charles gawking at them, an impish grin to his lips. "Hello", Her sweet, sultry voice echoed in his ears. "You must be the Pack Alpha." Alec's lips curled in disappointment. He thought that she would ask him about that night in the club. Schooling his features, the Alpha shook his head. "Not yet." "Excuse me?" He couldn't get enough of staring at her delicate face. She was very expressive, those eyes showing her genuine emotions. "I am Silas son, Alec Romano. Next in line for the Pack Alpha." Why was he trying to impress her? She's a hunter, for moon's sake! That line would have killed with the omegas in his pack but not Allison. She barely reacted, simply nodding her head to acknowledge his words. "Nice to meet you", She murmured. "I'm Allison Cohen, pro-level hunter assassin." He was amused when his mate quickly looked away. Now, who's the one trying to be impressive? Nonetheless, he did enjoy that little moment. Alec forwarded his hand in her direction, "Nice to meet you, Allison." The hunter eyed his extended hand, hesitant for a second or two before shaking it. Alec lowly gasped at the electric touch, feeling her soft lithe hands against his rough ones. His hand almost swallowed hers, eyes clashing together. Alec could see a spark of recognition in her eyes before it quickly replaced with a blank look. She pulled her hand away, and he instantly missed the warmth.
