Chapter 19 - Present
From afar... Giselle could already see that Noah had managed to fulfill his oldest dreams, even before they parked in front of the simple one-story house.
It matched perfectly with all the things the other Werewolf had told her in the past, and it made the she-wolf happy to think he was growing his family in that kind of place, which looked like it came out of a fairytale or movie.
... And she couldn't stop the guilty feelings of jealousy she felt due to that...
In her best fantasies, Giselle imagined that Aaron would accept her one day, just as the few people, who knew he was her other half, always said.
Nevertheless, she couldn't erase the doubts about all the struggles they would still have to deal with after that, making her tired just thinking about it... Confirming to her again how amazing people like Noah, who never gave up, were as Elle believed she wouldn't be able to do the same.
"I forgot to ask you earlier, but... Are you wearing perfume? I thought you didn't like the strong smell they have." Helping her with a carry-on bag, even though it wasn't needed, the male Alpha mentioned as the scent brushed his nose as soon as he held the trunk door to his childhood friend.
"Hmm. Selie told me about this one the last time we talked over the phone, so I decided to try it on." Replying to him with a fact that wasn't completely a lie, Giselle hoped the truth wouldn't reveal itself in her voice as, besides Selena, the man was the only other person who could easily read her. "But, what do you think? It's smell nice, right?"
"... It's nice. But a little too strong. I can barely smell your scent due to that." Such an answer was music for her ears as on a visit to the town next to theirs; the she-wolf had spent almost two hours trying to find a scent that was able to hide her own... Or at least able to hide the change that had occurred with it, so she was happy to hear Noah's answer, although she knew she shouldn't have been.
"I see. I will try to use less the next time. Thank you for letting me about it." And pretending not to have noticed it, she commented back naturally, doing her best not to smile at the thought that at least she wouldn't have to worry about it when she went back home.
...After all, if this had been able to fool Noah's nose, it would definitely also fool her mother and any other wolf from Mirror Night, as they were not as skilled as him when it came to picking up scents. And to be honest, trackers weren't something her Pack had a lot like the big ones...
"That's not the complete truth behind it, right?"
Yet Giselle never expected that the Vampire woman would be the one to see what she was hiding with her lie.
"Your smell is completely different from all the other times I have met you before." Standing outside the front door, Ria added while she seemed to be the guardian of the gates leading to paradise in Elle's eyes.
"... What do you mean by that, Ria?" Not understanding his Mate's words yet, Noah ended up asking back her as he didn't realize that she might have noticed something he didn't.
"Her scent has completely changed, and if I were my past self, I wouldn't probably think it's a big deal. However, as I have interacted more with you wolves over the past few years, even if sometimes it was against my will, it has allowed me to understand some things like this better..."
Moving closer to Giselle, the other woman continued to say, and somehow, she scared Elle then, causing her to take a few steps back as if adding some distance between them would keep the truth hidden for a little longer or make it disappear.
"There are few situations that the scent of a wolf or person changes, and that is something you know better than I, Noah. But for such a drastic change to happen, it can only mean one thing... She is mated now."
Holding Giselle's shoulder, Ria stopped the she-wolf with the flushed face from trying to run away from them, even though there was nowhere else she could go there.
... The Alpha couple's hotel was a big no-no for sure...
"That is the real reason why you asked if you could stay with us for a few days. You are running away from your Mate, aren't you?" Better than anyone else, the Vampire was someone who could understand this very well as she could see her past self in the young Alpha's eyes at this very moment.
"Running away? Elle is that true?!" Paying closer attention this time, Noah could soon understand how his Mate was correct about what she said. "Oh, Goddess! This is true! You and Aaron are mated now! What is going on?!"
As the other Werewolf mentioned the name of her other half, Giselle just wanted to find a hole and bury herself in it like an animal that would hibernate until the following spring since her friends now knew the truth wanted so much to hide with all her might.
"Ria is right. What are you doing here?" And her situation only seemed to get worse as he asked such things. "Why doesn't anyone else seem to know about this in the Pack? The Alphas couple would definitely be happy and tell me about it if that was something they knew about."
Feeling trapped, Giselle could barely breathe while Noah kept interrogating her like a worried brother.
"Elle... What's going on?! Are you truly running away?" Giving her one last chance to speak up, his voice sounded calmer now as he saw how the she-wolf seemed to lose the healthy glow of her pale skin when she was barely able to answer him...
“I-I’m not running away… I think.”
