Chapter Two ~ Our Mates!

Caelan POV

    Cooper was pacing in my head, he seemed anxious and restless for some reason. Cooper is the name of my wolf. I had just pulled up at Astoria High School to pick up Amilah. My mom had called and said she was delayed in Portland and I was the closes to her school. Apparently, the school nurse called and said, Amilah had slipped and hit her head during her gym class and has been in and out of consciousness for over an hour. I rushed out of my office telling my assistant to push all my meetings to this afternoon after 3:00 pm, if possible. I parked my car and walked up the pathway. Just as I turned the corner to go to the nurse’s office, I run into Brian pulling his phone from his pocket.

    “I was just about to call you.” He said looking at me with a smirk on his face.

    “Yeah, we’re you calling me about Amilah? I forgot you came up here. I could have called you to pick her up for me.” I said thinking about it now.

    “No, what’s wrong with Amilah?” he asked.

    “She slipped or something and hit her head in gym class. The nurse called my mom to pick her up, but she is held up in Portland. So, why were you about to call me?” I asked.

    He looked at me, with a huge smile on his face, and said, “I think I may have just found my mate. I don’t know man. This girl is gorgeous, and her scent is driving Rocky wild. He won’t calm the f**k down. Problem is… she is human. But that isn’t why I was about to call you. I was about to call you because Ms. Williamson has a dilemma that she may need our help with. Let’s check on Amilah first, then you can come back with me to Ms. Williamson office.” He said with excitement in his voice.

     We began walking to the nurse office. I walked into the nurse office and noticed Amilah lying on the bed. “Hello, I’m Caelan, Amilah’s brother, my mother sent me to pick her up. I should be on her emergency list.” I said to the girl eyeing me up and down at the counter.

    “Just a minute cutie I mean Caelan, I’ll let the nurse know you are here for Amilah.” She said while licking her lips.

    Cooper growl and I asked him what his problem was today. He’s been antsy and irritated all day. Cooper sighed in the back of my mind then said ‘I feel mate close’.

    Cooper and I have been waiting for our mate now for four years. Usually, you find your mate when you turn eighteen years old, but I turned twenty-two last month and I still haven’t found my mate. I’m the future Alpha of my pack. My father turned the pack over to me last year when Brian and I told him and Beta Ben that we have been advanced in our studies and will graduate with our Law degrees this Fall. I am not the active Alpha yet. My father said we will have my Alpha ceremony when I graduate or find my mate whichever comes first. Brian will be my Beta.

    “Caelannnn!” Amilah jumps in my arms as soon as her eyes land on me.

    “Hey little sis, how are you feeling?” I said as I placed her feet back on the ground.

    “I feel a little dizzy, but I think I’m okay. I slipped and hit my head on a locker in the locker room for gym class.” I looked at her and she was looking down at the ground.

    I didn’t believe a word she said but I didn’t want her to feel worse. Amilah was barely five foot two and had freckles and a little button nose. She was a tiny little thing but firm and strong. Being just sixteen years old, she didn’t have her wolf yet and really wasn’t a fighter, so I knew that she may be bullied. A few of the she wolves from my pack have told me that she gets picked on because of her size. When I asked her about it, she denied it.

    “Hey Ami, would you like to wait in the car while I go chat with Ms. Williamson?”

    “Yeah, can I have your car keys?” she asked and reached her hand out.

    I handed the keys to her and turned towards the counselor’s office and started walking with Brian on the side of me smiling like an i***t.

    As we got closer to the counselor’s office, I started to smell the most intoxicating scent I have ever smelled. Cooper started pacing and jumping up and down in my head.

    “What is that smell?” I said looking at Brian.

    He looked at me confused and said, “What smell? All I smell is my mate. She smells like Fresh Baked Apples. What do you smell?” he asked.

    I looked at him confused because I didn’t smell Fresh Baked Apples at all. I smelled fresh baked Cinnamon Rolls. He looked at me and then opened the door to Ms. Williamson’s office. The scent hit me so hard I stumbled back a little. Once I caught my balance, I stood straight up and walked inside the office. As soon as Brian moved from in front of me, my eyes landed on the most beautiful girl I have ever seen.

    She has a soft caramel complexion with a bright golden Auburn color hair styled in messy bun sitting on top of her head. She has the most beautiful hazel green almond shaped eyes with beautiful long eyelashes and a beauty mark right above her lip on the right. It didn’t look like she had on any make-up, but she was naturally beautiful. She smiled at me and my heart stopped for a second.

    Cooper was yelling in my head. “Mate, Go to Mate!” I had to push him back and tell him to calm the hell down. “Cooper, I get it. She is our Mate, and she is gorgeous, but we need to wait to see why we are here. I can smell she is wolf but not full wolf. She may be a hybrid let’s keep our cool.” I said to him and he laid down and covered his eyes in the back of my mind.

    As I looked around, I smelled mostly humans but there was another wolf in the room and the scent appeared to be coming from the woman sitting closest to my mate. She has an Alpha aura, and she is a pure-blooded wolf. I can sense she has sensed my Alpha aura as well. Without eye contact with her or my mate, I continued to look around the room until my eyes landed on the man sitting the furthest away from me.

    “Mr. Sykes, How are you? It’s been a long time.” I said as I reached out to shake his hand.

    He shook my hand and responded, “Mr. Parks, I’m well, how are you? What brings you here?”

    Brian looked at me and shook his head with a slight laugh, “Man, you know everybody don’t you? Ms. Williamson, I swear this guy is still way too popular.” he said laughing. Ms. Williamson just shook her head.

    “Mr. Sykes is the head of security at Waller and Walker firm. I see him whenever we litigate cases with them.” I said shaking my head and smiling at my best friends antics, then I turned back to Mr. Sykes to answer his question, “I came here to pick up my little sister Amilah and saw this guy outside apparently getting ready to call me. Why were you about to call me anyway Brian?” I said as Ms. Williamson cut in by saying, “Caelan, you seem to know Mr. James Sykes, this is his wife Marie Sykes, and his daughter Kendra Sykes. This here is Mrs. Carla May-Peters, her husband Joel Peters, and their daughter Crystal May. Crystal and Kendra along with Karl are the three invitees to the Student Exchange Scholastic Conference this year.” She said with a gleeful smile.

    My eyes landed on Crystal and they turned a little darker.

    I quickly looked away and mind linked Brian ‘B, we have a problem, I’m guessing that Kendra is your mate because I am positive that Crystal is mine’.

    I smirked when I looked back at Brian and then addressed the room,

    “Hello everyone, it’s nice meeting you all. I guess we will be seeing all of you at the conference. Brian and I have been invited to be panel judges.” I said while slapping Brian on his back.

    “Yeah, that is what I was calling you for. To see if you were able to arrange the schedule so we could make it to the conference. Apparently, we will need to be escorts or should I say chaperones for Crystal and Kendra. Their parents will not be able to attend and since my parents will be out of town and Karl has also been invited, I’ve been asked if I would look after the girls in the absence of their parents.” Brian said as he looked up at Kendra and smiled.

    “Yeah, we can attend but I will only be available Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday but I will be back for the award ceremony on Friday evening. I have the Lawson Jury selection on Friday morning.” I said looking at Crystal again then quickly looking away.

    ‘B, wrap this up please I got to get out of here before I grab her and f**k her in front of her parents. How are you even staying calm?’ I linked him with a bit of frustration in my tone.

    He linked me back, ‘Rocky understands what is at risk here. We’ve waited this long we can wait a few more minutes. Tell Cooper to chill.’ he said.

    “Cool, it’s settled then. I would be honored to chaperone your girls to this event and keep an eye on them making sure they are safe.” Brian said then sent me a link, ‘Rocky is getting antsy now. He said you should ask to be excused to get back to Amilah then we can both leave.’

    I looked up at him just as Ms. Williamson finished whatever she was saying to the girls and their parents. I looked at Crystal and she was looking at Kendra both of them with the biggest smiles on their faces.

    “Ms. Williamson, always a pleasure! Sorry I have to get going, Amilah is waiting for me in the car. She isn’t feeling too well. It was truly a pleasure meeting all of you. Oh, and congratulations’ ladies, this is truly a high honor.” I said as I grabbed the door and opened it.

    I looked back at Crystal one last time before I walked out the door yelling for Brian to catch up over my shoulder. I heard everyone say bye as Brian was closing the door behind him. We walked to the parking lot; Karl was standing by my car talking to Amilah when we walked up, he had left Ms. Williamson’s office a few minutes before us.

    “I’m going to take Amilah home. Meet me in the conference room in about an hour. We need to figure this out.” I said to Brian and he nodded his head. He walked away with Karl following him heading to his car.

    I got in my car and turned on the engine as soon as I looked up Crystal and her parents were walking into the parking lot. Her eyes locked with mine and for a second, I swear there was lust in her eyes, but she looked down at the ground and walked over to her car. As she got into the car on the passenger side, she looked back at me one more time and smiled brightly. I smiled back and pulled out the parking lot heading to the pack house. I’m going to need to figure this out and quick. I want her like I have never wanted a woman before.
