CHAPTER 5

“You do not have to be stubborn you will have a bad cold at this rate.” He says not taking his hand off my exposed upper chest. What should I do? What should I do? Why am I always getting confused when it comes to him? Gulp. Gulp. Gulp. “Just tell me who he is. You need to be protected…” He trails off as I move my hand to grip his hand softly. “Aha..” I murmur as I push his hand off my chest with a very fake laugh. “I’m sorry, it’s just… never mind. Is he a student here too?” He asks and I’m even more interested in what he said I should never mind about, than his question. “No, he isn’t.” I reply and he nods. “That’s good for now. How far is your apartment from here?” He asks as he steps back from me a bit. “Not too far, but it takes me thirty minutes to get to school every day without a traffic. There will surely be a terrible traffic tonight because most people are just getting off work and are heading to their various homes, so I am guessing I should get home in not less than two hours.” I finish my rant and he gives me a pointed look. “What do you think you are saying?” He asks and I give him a sheepish smile. “It means I can’t go home so I will get myself to the twenty four hours library or sit my ass on my car’s trunk. It’s comfortable and save, incase if any problem occurs. All students have the emergency contact of the alpha base. I know you are a lecturer here so you must have been told what the alpha base is, it where the cops or Sheriff, whatever you know the police to be called in Italy resides.” I say and I almost regret it immediately. Why am I being so informal? Argh! Darn my dumbness. “What if any bad thing occurs and before you can alert the alpha base, you have been affected badly? There’s definitely no way you are staying here. You can’t stay in the twenty four hours library either, it’s not even exams’ period yet, so the library won’t be filled up with students. I will pay for a comfortable room for you at the guest house, give a minute.” He says and turn to leave. I watch him walk towards where Joe is seated in their car and narrow my eyes at them. This sudden overprotectiveness for a stranger is so freaking absurd. He says some things to Joe which aren’t audible to me and Joe nods. I watch him pat Joe’s shoulder and he starts the ignition of their car. He walks over to where I’m standing and make a sign with his head for me to get into my car. “What?” I ask and he groans. “Get into your car and drive.” He says and move for the shot gun of my car. “The hell?!” I ask without moving and that causes him to make fast strides towards me. “I didn’t ask you if it pleases you your Majesty, so get into your damn car and drive either before Joe or after Joe, we are taking you to the guest house.” He says and I give him a scrutinizing look. “Why should I trust you? What if you want to get me killed or…” I trail off when he stretches out his hand to me. “Kiki?” “What?” I ask. “Your key.” He says and I drop it right on his provided palm. “Get into the car, you aren’t getting killed. I’m your lecturer for heaven’s sake and you are not someone I can harm.” He replies and I turn round to sit shot gun, right beside him as he takes his position behind the steering wheel. I stare blankly at nothing in particular as thoughts of why he is doing all this floods my heart. “Are you allergic to seatbelts?” He asks and I make a move to fasten my seatbelt. He takes the lead as he steps on the accelerator pedal and I watch Joe follow behind us at equal speed through the rear view mirror. I rest my head on the head rest and shut my eyes close to relief my thoughts. When is my Dad going to return? Does he even care about me? He didn’t even call to ask of me… If he hates me that much, how is he letting me stay in his house? “Kiki?” I hear Alejandro’s husky voice call out, totally breaking my chains of thoughts and I open my eyes gradually. “So fast…” I murmur as I unbuckle my seatbelt and get off. He gets off too then hand over my car’s key to me. He waits for me to lock the doors by pressing the remote before raising his brows in a silly manner. “Is there something on my face?” I ask touching my face and I think I see a very small smile which didn’t last for more than a second. “No, your bag.” He replies reminding me and I make an ‘oh’ sound before unlocking the doors. I grab my bag and mumble a slight thank you as I lock the doors. He makes a sign for me to move with his hand pointing towards the direction of the guest house and I make a move. He assumes my right and Joe assumes my left as we three approach the reception. Joe leads me to sit at the reception with him, while Alejandro handles the whole thing. “What did you do to him?” Joe asks and I want to scoff, but I stop myself when I remember he his my lecturer’s best friend. “What do you mean?” I ask. “He doesn’t do all this. He doesn’t care about other women. He has never gone this far, he even drove your car…” He says and I frown. “He might not care about me too. He is just looking out for me because I was the only one out there this late. Anyone can do that, you could have too.” I say and he shakes his head. “No, this is different because Alejandro has and would never care about a lady sitting out alone so late into the night.” He says and I want to reply when Alejandro approaches us with just a keycard in his hand. Are we staying in one room? I follow behind them as they lead the way and one of the workers flashes me a wistful grin… “We know the way, the professors’ suite is always kept clean you aren’t needed much. Just get me a bottle of scotch or any other strong drink.” Joe says to the worker following us and he bows a bit before leaving. I am lead through series of stairs before we finally get to a door with ‘Dr. Alejandro’s suite’ written on it He uses the key card to open the door and I am greeted with a well furnished apartment. Unilag, seriously? Wow… “You two brought me to your apartment?” I ask and Joe grins. “No, this isn’t our apartment. It is just one of the benefits of being a lecturer.” Joe replies and I move to sit. This is so weird. “We can’t sleep together…” I start and Alejandro look at me. “Of course, we are just keeping our eyes on you. If you have eaten, that’s the bedroom go and sleep. Joe and I have an alternative.” Alejandro replies and before I can reply too, someone knocks and Joe moves to get the door. Joe dips his hand into his pocket and give out some cash to the worker who have just handed over two bottles of a strong drink I can’t recognize. “You two are drinking?” I ask and Joe smiles. “I drink. He doesn’t, do you want to join me?” Joe asks raising the bottles and before I can reply, Alejandro does. “No, she isn’t drinking.” Alejandro replies and I feel the sudden urge to try one of the many things I have never done. “I’m not a minor, I can drink. I’m joining in, Joe.” I reply as I settle for a sit right in front of Joe and Alejandro. Joe leaves and return with two glass cups. “Here you go beautiful.” Joe says as he fills my cup with the liquor and I watch Alejandro’s fingers get balled into a fist on the table. I move the glass to my lips after giving the two of them a smile and shut my eyes close as the liquor first of all feels so cool before beginning to burn my throat. I groan and move the cup to my lips again, but I’m being stopped by a very furious Alejandro. “Just stop, is this your first time?” He asks and I am tempted to lie, but I decide against it. “Yes, but it’s so cool.” I reply moving the glass cup to my lips again, causing him to roll his eyes. He so hot, any lady will do anything to have him. His eyes oh my heart, has he been using contacts to hide his cool green eyes? “A glass is enough to get you drunk, just stop.” He says and I smile. “I think she’s drunk already.” Joe says and Alejandro gives him a pissed off look. “It’s your fault, why are you doing this?” I hear Alejandro ask as I gulp down the rest of the content in the cup. “I’m just trying to proof to you that I was right about our previous discussion.” He replies and Alejandro groans as I smile foolishly. “Joe.” Alejandro warns and he stands up. “It’s okay Bro, she will be fine. I’ve always got your back, I just wanted you to know that it’s different from Lucy’s.” He says as he gestures that he wants to sleep. “Good night Joe.” He says, not replying to Joe’s words. “Good night, Bro.” Joe replies and I grip my wrist when I see the room spin. “Who is Lucy?” I ask and he gives me a blank stare. “Tell me about the guy who almost had his way with you between the church buses.” He replies and I grin. “He is my ex.” I start and he gives me a look of interest.
