Unlike before, when a single pony and her master would trod narrow, uneven paths out here, the bushes are cut back to form wide, smooth lanes. We pass several wooden benches with accompanying whipping posts, much like in the hedge maze. A pillory here and there, and even a rack catches my eye. I know Mr. Rose ordered improvements, but not until we reach our destination do I realize how much has already been done. A clearing opens before us.
