She looked round quickly before she added,
“Now come along. Let’s get off while the coast’s clear.”
She helped Henriet into a light coat of a dark colour so that she would not be noticeable and then she gave her a handkerchief to put over her head.
As she went to pick up her handbag, Henriet put her arms round Caterina’s neck and kissed her on both cheeks.
“Thank you, thank you, darling,” she said, “there are no words in any language which express what I feel.”
“All you have to do is be happy,” Caterina said. “We have both used our brains and so has V-Victor.”
She stumbled over the name and Henriet laughed.
