That little kernel of warmth turned so cold it could freeze the Sahara Desert. “What did I say to piss you off?” Harker actually sounded surprised. “You know what this”—he waved his hand between them—“is or was.” “Of course. How silly of me. It’s a business arrangement. Don’t worry”—she forced herself to smile while inside she crumbled—“I won’t forget again.” She grabbed her container and turned toward her computer, stuffing food in her mouth so she wouldn’t have to talk to him. “Alison, look at me.” “Nope.
