CHAPTER 16: Alison –––––––– Alison stared at her computer. For the first time in her life she was unable to lose herself in her work. The conversation with Harker tore through her head, whipping her emotions into a storm. She felt used, manipulated and stupid because Harker hadn’t actually lied. He’d pretended to work but he was right. If he’d given her the option, she would’ve left or worked in her office. She hated that her heart did a little flip when she thought about all he’d done to get to know her better. He said it was because of his child, their child, but was that really all? She was an open person. It shouldn’t have taken him long to know she was kind and giving. Yet, he’d spent almost a year doing whatever he could to keep her by his side. She closed her computer and left
