Chapter 7 When Hale and Flannery got close, the agent held up the three bags. “Do you recognize this stuff, Mr. Flannery? We located it in your truck. Of course, we’ll have to run tests, but I’d be willing to bet it comes back positive for an illegal substance.” Flannery’s normally red face had gone pasty white. “That s**t’s not mine. I never saw it before. Somebody planted the stuff to try and get me.” Despite his bluster, Flannery did not resist when one of the agents read him his rights and another snapped the handcuffs on his thick wrists. The agents also seized the pickup as evidence, and one of them drove it away when they all got back in their vehicles and left with the three prisoners. Only Mike Hale stayed behind. That afternoon he actually pitched in and did some railroad work
