Chapter 2

1806 Words
Charlotte’s POV “Baby, I’m sorry.” I heard from the other side of the door. I just shook my head even though the person on the other side of the door couldn’t see me. I was currently under the covers trying to hide away from the world outside and the person had been on the other side of my door for the last 15 minutes trying to persuade me to open the door for them. ‘Are you pretending that you don’t know it’s mom on the other side?’ My wolf asked me as she read my thoughts. ‘She might as well be a stranger since she choose to betray us.’ I replied to her. “Charlie baby open the door.” I heard my mom say one more time. I decided to reply to her and hopefully she would get the message that I didn’t want to see her. “Go away.” “Let’s talk first.” She tried to plead with me. “No.” I said. I wasn’t ready to face reality yet and I knew if I stayed under the covers I could delay the inevitable for a little longer. ‘Don’t you think we should hear what mom has to say.’ My wolf said. ‘Whose side are you on?’ I said harshly to her. ‘Come on Charlie.’ ‘They are trying to get us to mate someone who we aren’t meant to.’ ‘I know,’ she said to me. ‘but…’ ‘But what?’ I asked her after she trailed off. ‘I have a strong feeling that we should go there.’ ‘Why?’ ‘I don’t know, I just have a feeling that we need to go to Royale City.’ I squinted my eyes suspiciously. I had always been one to trust my gut feelings so I believed my wolf when she said that we had to Royale City but I was still weary about giving up on the search for our mate so prematurely. I had always been told that waiting for my mate was going to be worth it so I wasn’t willing to throw it away for anything not even my even my pack. I needed to make a plan to escape so that I wouldn’t have to mate with someone I didn’t want to. My thoughts were interrupted by door being forced open. “What the hell!” I exclaimed before throwing the bed covers off of myself. I looked at the doorway and saw both of my parents standing in the door way. “Thank you, Conner.” I heard my mom say to my father. “You can go. I’ll just have a few words with Charlie and then we’ll both come down.” “Mom!” I screamed which caused both of my parents to turn in my direction. I was frustrated at having my door broken down but the look that my mom threw my way after I screamed had me cowering in my bed. Unlike my father and I who had hazel coloured eyes, my mom had blue eyes that had turned icy whenever she was angry which she was as she glared at me for my outburst. I knew better than to push her buttons any further so I pursed my lips together as a sign that I wouldn’t say anything more. “Don’t shout at your mother.” My father said and he moved to take a step into my room from where he was standing in the doorway. My mom held onto his bicep to stop him from moving any further. “Just go, we don’t need to rile her up any further.” My father looked away from me to her before letting out a deep sigh. He retreated which left my mother standing alone in the door way. “Charlie.” She said brightly before she tried and failed to close the door behind her. The door wasn’t fitting as snugly into the door frame as it had been and I was sure that the lock no longer worked from having been forcefully opened. I scowled at the state of my door which caused her to give me a sorry smile. “It’s not the first time your father has busted a door open so I’m sure it will be an easy fix.” She said before she walked over to me. She sat on my bed and took my hands into her own. “How are you?” I tried my best to keep my tone level as I replied to her, “I’ve been told to give up on my mate and mate a prince I don’t know for money.” “Don’t put it like that.” “How else should I put it mom?” “In a better way maybe.” My mom said before she looked away from me and did a quick sweep of my room with her eyes. I’m sure she saw the clothes scattered all over my floor and wanted to say something about them but choose to save the topic for another day. She looked at me and gave me a reassuring smile. “Listen, I don’t like the situation just as much as you. I don’t want to send my little girl away just as much as you don’t want to go there.” “Then why are you letting Father do this to me?” I questioned her. My mother had always been the biggest advocate for waiting for your fate mate so I couldn’t understand why she was allowing my father to carry out his plan. “It’s just to buy us time.” She said. “I’m trying my best to come up with a plan and I just need to buy a bit of time before things sort themselves out.” “What do you mean?” “I’ve been reaching out to a lot of people so I’m still waiting to hear from them. I’m sure we’ll get positive news from them soon and you won’t have to go through with mating Prince Royce.” My mom said optimistically. Prince Royce was the oldest son of the current Alpha King and he was literally the most eligible bachelor of all werewolf kind but I still wasn’t entertaining the prospect of mating him. “Then why do I need to go?” “You are our plan B.” She admitted. “Wait not our plan B, you are our plan C. As soon as our plan B works out we’ll have you return from Royale City so you just need to hold on until then.” “Why do you have so many plans?” I asked scowling at her. The problems with the pack must have been going on for longer than I realised if my parents had enough time to come up with so many plans. “Remember the Alpha trials you ruined a few weeks ago?” She asked which caused me to turn away from her in embarrassment. “That was our plan A. When packs change Alpha’s they are given a large amount of money by the Alpha Council and we would have used that to pay off our debts.” “I’m sorry about ruining your plans.” I said before I turned back to face her. “I’m also sorry but this still isn’t fair to me mom. I haven’t even had a chance to properly search for my mate yet.” “I know but we all have to make sacrifices.” My mother said and her voice turned from optimistic to stern. She was saying the same thing that my father had said but when she said it, it didn’t sound as bad. My mom was always better at convincing me to do things than my father was. “I promise to get you back before the selection is done so you don’t need to worry about mating Prince Royce.” I looked at her eyes and I could tell that she was telling the truth. I was certain that my mom would bring me back before I had to mate the Alpha Prince but there was still something that was unsettling me and my wolf about the whole situation. I smiled softly at my mom and I’m sure she knew that it meant that I was agreeing to go. So she took me into her arms and gave me hug. “Should I help you pack?” She asked after ending the hug. I nodded my head without answering her verbally. “You don’t have to worry about a thing. You just need to go there and be on your best behaviour and not cause any problems and things will sort themselves out.” She said. Her tone was soft but I could tell that she was also serious. I knew I couldn’t act up because although I was able to get away with the things I did here, I knew that I wouldn’t be able to do the same there. “When do I leave?” I asked her. My mom shot me a guilty smile. “Tomorrow.” “Mom!” I exclaimed. “That doesn’t even give the time to say bye to anyone.” I couldn’t leave without bidding Eddie farewell. He was my best friend that filled the spot of the sibling that I never had. He was literally the person who knew me best. “Sorry about the short notice but there’s nothing we can do but make the best of the situation.” I was being forced to go compete for the heart of a wolf that didn’t belong to me and I wouldn’t be able to see my friends before I left. I wanted to complain but I felt like that would just be a waste of time and effort that I could use to devise exit plans. My mom gave my shoulder a slight squeeze before she headed into my walk in closet. I got out of my bed and followed her. I couldn’t let her pack my bags for me as I knew that she would probably pack only outfits that suited her and not me. As I put the first of my clothes into my suitcase my wolf’s voice flittered into my mind. ‘We’ll be okay.’ She said to me ‘Really?’ I asked her. ‘Yes, I promise.’ Although I was very much against this whole idea, I could tell my wolf wasn’t really against it, if anything she was just letting me ride out the wave so that I could sort out my emotions by myself. She was hiding something and I was very curious to find out what it was.
