Matthew      “I’ve decided that perhaps it would be better for all of us if I take the girls and move back into my own house.” My eyes widened, snapping upwards to focus on my mother, surprise evident on my features. She was standing in front of the coffee machine, the expression on her face unreadable. I glanced down at the toast that I had raised halfway to my mouth, before I dropped it back into my plate, my appetite suddenly forgotten.       “Why exactly would you want to do that?”  I focused my full attention on my mother, pushing away my plate so that she knew this too. It was around midnight—which was why there was absolutely no sign of life in the window behind my mother, or anywhere else in the house. I had put Blairs’ sleeping form in my bed, making sure that she was covered
