From a distance they moved as a wave, one body of water, shifting and flowing together down the street. It almost looked beautiful, magical, like a crowd gathered together to watch a football match, or a royal wedding back in the day. The closer you got, the less beautiful it was. The closer you got, the more magic turned to a stomach-churning, spine-chilling curse. And from inside the herd, that was a different story altogether. Rotten bodies slammed into each other, jostling for position in the back, all with the animalistic predatory urge to be at the front when prey finally appeared. And it would, it always did. In a group of this size, you either fought tooth and nail to get there first, or you simply didn't feed. It was a dog eat dog world... or a human eat human world at least.
