"s**t Rain don't do this alone, I told you...I'll help you, the pack will help you. Anything Rain. This is not the f*****g way!"
I could feel his rage, I could feel my body was being carefully carried back into my room. I saw our pack doctor, and then darkness came again. I didn't know how long I was out, but the sun was shining when I see Grant was pacing on my doorway talking on his phone.
I grunted as I try to get up, but then my thigh feels like it was going to rip apart. Grant quickly move to my side and gave me a glass of water and some pills.
"Drink this, to numb the pain..." he held my back to help me sit and swallow the pills.
"Thank you. I'm..."
"First of all... promised me you won't be doing that kind of stupid thing again without me or Grey. I'm not going to tell you again. Don would have my head for what just happened." He said in his stern manner.
"I know, I just thought it might not work...I haven't done it in a while, I didn't actually expect that it would work."
"Just as long as you know. So, what did you actually accomplished aside from the flesh ripping, painful wound to your thigh?" Grant asked taking a chair, flipping it to the front, and sat before me with his arms rest on the back of the chair.
I sighed and started telling him everything that had happened, and the conclusion. Grant nodded to my explanation and told me that he would get Grey involved in this matter. And that they would wait until I was better, to do another summoning.
"This healing process can be speed up you know that right?" I asked wanting to get my revenge settled quickly. Cause I already know that I could do it, and I wanted it to be dealt with soonest.
"Yes. I'm ahead of you, I already talked to the sheer and she will send The Healer to quicken your healing process. We should be able to start your ritual in a couple more days."
"I want it all to be over with, I want my peace for having avenged his death already. I'm tired Grant. I want to go to him, I've tried several times already but the thought of him being disappointed in me made me backed down. Every f*****g time." I said wiping my tears roughly.
"I can't even begin to imagine what you're going through Rain, but I'm glad that you decided to stay and make him proud."
Grant moves to my side and gives me his brotherly hug. I stayed in his arms as he pulled me to sleep, and then darkness came to me as I close my eyes to sleep.
It was dark when the nightmare came. I saw him being torn apart by the demon creatures. I could hear his pain, his cry for help, while I was just standing there couldn't do anything. I couldn't reach him. He was crying out my name, he was begging me to come and save him.
I finally woke up drenched in sweat. My heart beats fast, my hands trembled and my tears fall freely. I got up and go to the kitchen, fighting my way through the pain, groaning, and excreting cold sweat.
"Hey...Rain, what are you doing up from the bed? Come on let me help you..."
"Grey, thanks...when... did...you get here..." I said while struggling with the pain, with each step that I took.
"Couple of hours ago. Grant didn't want me to leave you alone, and he was damn right about it."
"Thanks...nightmares. I need water for the pills, to help me get back to sleep."
"I know I have been busy for you, but Grant sends me to do dozens of errands. I hate that I couldn't be there for you, but I'm here now. Do you want to talk? Or...do you want me to tell you a dirty joke?" He said casually while giving me a glass of water.
Grey has always been the clown in our pack. He would always know what to say to rectify the situation and make everyone feels better.
"I'm as good as can be expected, Grey..." I sighed as he helps me to sit on the couch.
We talked for a while until he ushered me back to my bed. He stayed and told me about his duties until I fall back to sleep.
I could feel my body was burning up, my teeth chattered from the fever that I was suddenly experiencing. I could feel the warm sun was shining on my side of the bed, but my body shivered as I feel an immense rush of cold flowing throughout my body.
"Grey..." I could barely hear my own voice, but he came to my side instantly.
"s**t! you're burning up...hang on the healer is scheduled to be here shortly, I was just on the phone with Grant."
Grey was helping me up to sit and was about to given the usual medication when there was a knock at the door.
"Hold on for me Rain...that must be him." He caressed my cheek and rest me back to the bed, after pulling and covering my body with the thick blanket.
He was back in seconds with Amos, the Healer. The older man looked at me with an understanding look. He knows about me and Don, it was not the first time that he saw me. Don had been injured several times in the past, but Amos had tried but fail to revive him on that forsaken day.
"My son. You are a strong man, you will live a long life..." he kept on speaking while preparing me for his ritual. The light blue candles were lit, the incense was burned, then he started chanting his spell.
I saw Grey looking at us from the far corner of the room, knowing that the ritual needs to be done exactly as is, without any interruption. Amos pulled away from my blanket and looked at my wound. He hovered his palms above it and start chanting the old language, I was familiar with the ritual but his power was above mine. He came from an older lineage of ancestral witches who were linked to kings and queens, and all the great leaders and warriors ever existed.
It was known among the witches that he works with Demon Buer, who is one of the demon Goetia which held the president rank with fifty legions under his reign. That said demon would appear and assist witches and healers in their rituals, but only a few had actually seen him.
The sandalwood scent was evident as the incense was placed by the foot of my bed. Then seconds later I could feel as the wounds were stitching itself back together, it felt like small needles were pinching my skin and sewing it closed although it had been stitched already by the pack doctor.
I was groaning and sweating bullets as the pain was getting to be unbearable, my hands were gripping the sheets while I try my hardest to keep my body still and let Amos do his work. His chants start to get louder as the air around us was getting thick. I was breathing through my mouth until he was silent in a matter of seconds then the hurt was gone and the fever vanished.
I finally sighed and try to sit myself up and rest my back to the headboard. I was feeling better already. It always confuses me, how his power can be so strong yet he couldn't save my Don.
And as if he could read my thoughts, which was exactly what the rumor was among the witches. Amos put his hand on my shoulder and shook his head knowingly.
"His death was planned by the gods above, you have to be strong. Happiness will come to you, the gods have other plans for you, and Don was just a small pawn in their great plan, just like I am right now."
"Amos..." my eyes started to get teary and my blood boil feeling my hate towards the gods.
Fuck the gods!
"No. Your next mission is to summon the Demon and avenge Don's death, then the wheels will be in motion and your faith will be revealed. All in good time son."
With those last words, he left me sitting alone thinking about my so called future. To which I was dreading to face, not without Don, not without my mate.
