CHAPTER 5: Just A Name?

1211 Words
"Philip, are we going to the police station later?" Daniela asked in a low tone of voice as Philip came back. Philip placed the two cups of coffee on the wooden table and he sat on the chair near it. "Ahmm... Yes. Maybe after we have our breakfast." He replied briefly and he took one cup of coffee and sipped it. Daniela walked toward the table and she sat on the cushion chair carrying the baby on her lap. "So I will prepare our breakfast. Please look for her for a moment, okay," Daniela uttered, and she placed the baby on the bed near her. Philip nodded his head. After a moment, Daniela took a coffee and she took it downstairs to prepare some food to eat. As the moment that Daniela went downstairs, Philip stared at the baby while holding a cup of coffee. He stood and went closer to the bed. He wanted to know if there was something strange about the baby's body. He looked closer, and he saw the chubby cheeks that were red as a tomato. Small lips and long eyelashes. Her face was beautiful and seemed like she was talking to him innocently. Philip placed his coffee on the table and he sat on the edge of the bed to see if there was anything inside the clothes of the baby. "Baby...I will check you okay." He muttered and he held the clothes of the baby in front. But he could not see anything rather than a soft skin and a little birthmark on her right chest. "There is nothing wrong with you. Maybe I have become too paranoid." He added too, and he took the baby clothes. Suddenly, he heard his wife calling him downstairs. "Philip! I guess she has a name!" Daniela shouted excitedly. Philip quickly jumped on the bed and he went downstairs to find out what his wife was telling him about. But before he left, he ensured that the baby was still sleeping. When he was on the top step of the stairs, he saw Daniela standing on the long armchair holding a piece of cloth that they found covering the baby's body last night. Philip walked toward his wife while reading something on the piece of cloth. "Selene..." Daniela uttered and she slowly stared at Philip. "Maybe her name is Selene. Am I right? Look at it." Daniela added while stretching her arms to give Philip the cloth. Philip took the cloth from Daniela and he read the letter that was embroidered on it. "Maybe you are right, Daniela. Maybe it's her name...It will be useful if we go to the police station. It can trace her parents easily." He replied after he read the letters on it that made Daniela change her emotion. The smile on Daniela's face suddenly faded and she averted her gaze away from Philip. Hiding her emotion, she turned around and took a couple of steps toward the kitchen to continue preparing their food. "Daniela, I will check the baby. I will come back after,"Philip said, to cut the tense between them. Philip knew how hard for Daniela to have a conversation like that, that's why he needed to change their topic. "..." Daniela kept on preparing the food and she did not throw any gaze at Philip because her heart wanted to burst. All she wanted was to own the baby even though she knew the legal counsel that they needed to give. Philip took his steps and he immediately went upstairs to check on Selene ( the baby). When he was at the door, he saw Selene wagging her feet and her hands seemed like they were playing with herself. "Ohh. You are awake, made my angel," he said as he made step toward Selene. He happily picked up the baby and embraced her with his arms. Thud! Thud! Thud! His steps were heard as he went to the kitchen. He sat on the chair and he played with Selene on some toys that were displayed near their chair. "Oh! Selene is awake. Can I carry her again?" Daniela spoke gently as she came closer to the other two. Philip let his wife carry the baby. "Daniela, stay with her and I will continue what you are doing." He offered sincerely and made his wife nod her head as an agreement. Philip prepared the cooked food on the table. There is fried rice with garlic, smashed potato and milk for the baby, hot tea, two pieces of fried egg, sausages, buttered shrimp and bacon. Philip could not believe that his wife would prepare that food again. Because as far as he remembered, his wife did not waste her time again cooking for herself after having an argument. He smiled secretly and he stared at his wife, who was trying to have fun with Selene. "She would look happier if she had a daughter. I hope that my nightmare will come true and I can have a daughter after answering the questions of that mysterious man."He muttered. Suddenly, he remembered the man he saw on that night. He felt curious as he thought about the mysterious voice in his dream. "But what if the mysterious man and the voice in my dream are the same? And the dream is not just a dream but news? What will I do?" He asked confusedly. Ding...Dong... Suddenly, his imagination had been discontinued when he heard the sudden ring of the doorbell outside. Daniela stood while carrying Selene and she went to the nearest window to know who was find out. "Who's that Daniela?" Philip asked, wondering. Daniela went back to the chair and she stared at Philip coldly. Philip seemed like he had caught what Daniela wanted to do. He left the kitchen and he went to the outside to check out the people outside. As he opened the door, he saw two police men wearing police uniforms standing at their gate. Philip started to feel the beating of his heart. He didn't know if it was because of happiness or sadness. Happiness because Selene would find her parents again and sadness because they would be lonely again, seeking the presence of a child. His steps were heavy as he went to the gate to face the policemen. "Good morning sir. What is your intention?" He uttered filled with respect. He prayed that it was not because of Selene. But suddenly, a police officer spoke. "Sir, we were patrolling this morning and we saw something at your gate. Can you please identify if this thing is owned by your wife." The police said while showing up the golden necklace in the air. Philip felt his breath become okay as he realized that become not all about Selene. "I'll check it Sir," Philip replied, and he stepped closer to the police officer to see the necklace. Suddenly, he heard his wife coming without Selene. "Good morning Mrs. Montreal!" The police greeted Daniela who, standing behind her, seemed like she wanted to know the intention of the police. "Good morning too Sir." Daniela replied and she got closer to Philip. She saw a golden necklace in the palm of her husband and she was fascinated by its beauty.
