Marina’s POV
I closed the door and leaned against it as tears pricked in my eyes. I wanted to pull him into my arms and hold him against my heart. He looked so haggard as if he had fought a thousand battles to come to me. How could I reject him? Yet my father’s threat echoed in my mind. I knew they were all outside, keeping tabs on me all the time. I saw them stalking me around wherever I went. It was as if I were a criminal! I hated my father more than anyone else in the world.
A groan from outside alerted me. Was Adonis still there? I peered through the eyehole and gasped at the sight of Adonis sitting on the floor, clutching at his chest.
‘He hasn’t recovered fully! He should have been in bed!’ gasped Mia, sensing the situation.
