19. WE'RE IN THIS TOGETHER

2050 Words
"You two are back. How did it go?" Logan looked at his sister as she came up to them. He didn't even know that she knew what was happening, but then he figured Malia wouldn't want to be kept in the dark. "Are you sure you want to be part of this? It's your mother that we're talking about." Clayton asked the same question Logan wanted to ask. The queen is Malia's mother after all, even though Malia would never protect the queen if she did something wrong. Logan didn't want his sister involved in something that would force her to choose sides. Even though he now knew that they were not even half-siblings, he didn't want her to be involved and since he knew his brother like he knew himself, he was pretty sure that Clayton wanted the same thing too. "I know what you're thinking but I am not backing out of this. I want to help and since you two are my brothers, I will do whatever it takes to help you." Logan and Clayton exchanged a worried glance before turning to face Malia. "We appreciate your loyalty, Malia, but we don't want to put you in danger," Logan said, placing a hand on her shoulder. Malia shook her head, her eyes blazing with determination. "I'm not afraid. Besides, I can't just sit back and do nothing. You two are my brothers, and the bond we created all these years will never be broken. "It doesn't matter if we are not siblings anymore, you will always be my brothers and you know I love you." Logan felt a lump form in his throat at his sister's words and he wasn't someone who cried easily. He had always known that Malia was a fierce and loyal person, but her dedication to their family was unwavering. He turned to Clayton, silently asking for his input. Clayton nodded. "Even though I can't believe I'm saying this, I agree with Malia." Logan looked at him, surprised. He was hoping that his little brother would tell Malia not to get involved. "We could use all the help we can get, and she's more than capable of handling herself in a dangerous situation." Just then, Talia spoke up. "I agree with Malia too. We're in this together, and we need to stick together." Logan looked at his wife. She smiled at him. "I know what you're thinking but, my love, you don't have to be in this alone. "You've always protected this family and even though I've been part of your life for two seconds, I know that very well. "Malia wants to do what you've always done for her. She wants to be there for you and you shouldn't deprive her of that right." Logan sighed, knowing that he couldn't argue with their reasoning. "Alright, but we need to be careful. The queen didn't give us much to work with. It would have been better if her cousin was still alive, then we would know the real truth. "I can't just trust her word because who knows, she might have been the one who killed my stepmother and decided to pin the murder on her cousin because he is dead. We will never know." "I know my mother, she would never do something that would land her in trouble. I think she was telling the truth because she knows very well that nothing stays hidden forever. "After everything that I have heard, I don't doubt she could kill someone, but I know she knows that if she killed Clay's mother, everything would be out in the open one day and that would tarnish her reputation. "Trust me, she values her reputation more than she values her life or her children." Logan couldn't argue with that. He knew his sister was right even though he wished she wasn't, because that would mean they had a suspect at least. "That's true. I don't want to believe it but I know it is the truth," Clayton said as he went to his fiance, who hadn't said anything since they entered the house. "Are you okay, baby?" He asked her as he knelt in front of her and took her hands and brought them to his lips and gave them a light kiss. "I'm okay." She smiled at him and guided his hands to her pregnant belly. "I just missed you." "I'm sorry I took so long." "It's okay, I know this is very important to you. I want you to know your real family and I want our baby to be part of that family." "I also want that too," Tiara said to Logan. "Just like my cousin, I want our baby to be part of your real family. Even though your mother and father are no longer here, I want our baby to know about them, I want him to know where he comes from. If you become a king, he will be a prince and I know this might seem like nothing, but I want to see you as a king. "I want you to have everything you deserve, everything you have been deprived of your entire life. I want our son to be a good king like I know his father will be." Logan felt a surge of emotion at Tiara's words. He had never really thought about becoming a king before. All he ever wanted was a normal life with a loving family, but fate had other plans for him. He turned to Talia and Malia, who were both watching him with concern. "I don't know if I'm ready to be a king. I don't even know if I want to be one." "You don't have to decide right now, Logan," Talia said, placing a comforting hand on his shoulder. "Just take things one step at a time, and we'll all be here to support you." Malia nodded in agreement. "We're all in this together, Logan. Whatever happens, we'll face it together." Logan felt a warmth spread through his chest as he looked at his siblings and his wife. He had always felt like an outsider in his own family because, as everyone called him, he was an illegitimate child. Right now, though, he realized that he had a family who loved and supported him unconditionally. "I don't think you have the time to decide, Your Majesty. I just received news that your uncle is aware you are alive and he is planning to look for you. "He knows that if you come back, you will be a threat to his reign." Logan had even forgotten there was Axel. He was not around when they came back and since he just came into their lives, it was easy to think he didn't exist at all. Even though he was the one who told him the truth about his birth in the first place. "I think I told you to stop calling me that. I am Logan, not His Majesty." He wasn't even sure he wanted to be king yet and Axel was making his life miserable already. He waited for him to say something because he was always saying something but he never said a word. Logan looked at him, only to find out he was looking at Malia, who was also looking at him. Logan knew that look on his face and he didn't like it one bit. "Stop looking at my sister like you want her to be your next meal." That seemed to bring him back from wherever he was. "You're Princess Malia?" Malia just looked at him but didn't say anything. "I'm Axel." He said, offering his hand, which she didn't shake. "My brother is right, stop looking at me like that." When he smiled at her, she continued. "I'm being serious. You don't want to mess with me." She then dismissed him and went to Arrianna. From the look on Axel's face, he didn't want to believe he was dismissed just like that. Logan then decided to take that chance to tease him. It was always amusing to see someone get shot down by his baby sister, but this time around, it was even more satisfying. It was clear that Axel was not used to girls throwing dismissive looks at him. He walked over to Axel and put his hands on his shoulder, "You know, my sister has high standards and I don't think you fit that criterion." Axel looked at him and then looked at Malia who was still talking to Arrianna. "Uh, yeah. I guess I should have known better." Logan chuckled. "Yeah, you should have. But don't worry, I won't tell anyone you got shot down." "Did I say I minded?" "No, you did not, but something tells me this is new territory for you. You are so used to girls throwing themselves at you that you find it hard that there is someone who can resist your charms." Axel didn't say anything at that, he just looked at Malia again and Logan knew he was right. That should have made him laugh but it didn't. He was worried that eventually his sister would give Axel the attention he wanted from her and end up getting hurt. If what he thought about Axel was true, there was a high possibility that he was going to hurt his sister. "Hey, I didn't get shot down, I just...I just wasn't expecting that." Axel said after a while. Logan should have laughed at that but he was still worried and he saw the way Axel was looking at his sister. He was not going to stop until he got her attention. Logan chuckled, trying to hide how worried he was. "Don't worry about that right now. You said my uncle has found out the truth. Just focus on finding a way to keep my uncle away from us until I can figure out what to do." Axel nodded, "Yes Your Majesty. I'll get on it." He was back to his serious self again. Logan wanted to tell him to stop calling him 'Your Majesty' but then he suddenly found that it didn't annoy him. He couldn't run away from his destiny. Logan watched him walk away, feeling a sense of relief that he could finally have some peace without Axel constantly looming around. He turned to Malia who was now standing beside him. "You know, I can take care of myself, Logan. I don't need you to always protect me," Malia said, looking up at him. Her eyes told him that she was listening to their conversation even though she was talking to Arrianna. Logan smiled down at her, "I know you can, but it's my job as your big brother to worry about you." Malia rolled her eyes, "Well, worry less, and let me handle things on my own sometimes. I can handle Axel just fine. His confidence doesn't affect me, it just makes me feel like laughing at his face." Logan chuckled, "Okay, I'll try." He just hoped his sister was telling the truth. His sister had always been headstrong, but still, he didn't want to see his sister get hurt, so he decided to take matters into his own hands. He made a mental note to keep a close eye on Axel and to make sure he didn't try anything with Malia. As they walked away, Logan couldn't help but think about what Axel had said about his uncle. He knew that he couldn't hide forever, but he wasn't sure if he was ready to face his uncle just yet. He didn't even know if he was ready to be the king his people needed. He needed more time to think and plan his next move. The pressure of being a king was something he never worried about because he always thought he would never be king. But deep down, he knew that his destiny was tied to his kingdom and the people his father had left behind. He just didn't know if he was ready to face the consequences of the truth that had been hidden from him for so long. But for now, he would focus on spending time with his family and enjoying the peace and quiet while it lasted.
