22. I WANT TO TRUST YOU

2009 Words
Logan stood by the window, staring out at the night sky. His mind was racing with thoughts and emotions. He didn't want to believe that Kaden could be the one responsible for Tiara's abduction, but at the same time, he couldn't ignore the possibility. Axel might hate Kaden for what he put Logan through, but Logan knew he would never let his personal feelings be the judge of the truth, even though he had only known him for a short period of time. Axel's words echoed in his mind, and for the first time in his life, Logan couldn't help but feel a pang of resentment towards Kaden. It wasn't fair that he always tried everything he could to have a relationship with him while he did nothing. But Logan knew that he couldn't let his personal feelings cloud his judgment. Tiara's life was at stake, and he needed to find her, no matter who was responsible. Logan took a deep breath and made a decision. He would confront Kaden and ask him directly if he knew anything about Tiara's whereabouts. He would give his brother the benefit of the doubt, but if Kaden gave him any reason to suspect him, Logan wouldn't hesitate to take action. Logan walked over to his desk and began writing a letter to Kaden, asking him to meet him in private. He knew it was risky, but he needed to know the truth. Logan sealed the letter and asked Malia to deliver it to Kaden. Malia looked at the letter in her hand and shook her head. "Why are you sending him a letter? And why are you asking me to deliver it? Logan, you know I don't want anything to do with Kaden." Logan knew that Malia was still angry with Kaden about what happened the day before his wedding with Tiara but then he really needed her help. "You are the only person I trust to deliver this letter to him. I could've just gone to the palace to talk to him but you know that I'm banned from going there. "I just want to talk to him about something, that's all." Malia looked at him for a while before nodding her head and leaving his room. As Logan waited for Kaden's response, he couldn't help but feel a sense of dread. He didn't want to believe that his own brother could be capable of such a heinous act, but he couldn't ignore the possibility. He couldn't sleep at night as he thought about the possibilities. He didn't know what he would do if it really turned out that his brother had kidnapped his wife. The next morning, Malia returned with Kaden's response. Logan opened the letter and read it carefully. Kaden agreed to meet him, but he sounded guarded and defensive in his tone. "What's wrong?" He heard Clayton ask as he joined them. "Nothing. Kaden has agreed to meet me later today." "Then why were your brows furrowed? Were you not expecting that response?" He wanted to tell them the truth but then he knew how they both felt about Kaden. "Nothing you should worry yourselves about. Let's go and have breakfast." Malia and Clayton both looked at each other but didn't say anything. They soon followed him to the dining room. In the evening, Logan prepared to face his brother. He knew that this conversation could change everything between them, but he had to do what was right for Tiara. With a heavy heart, Logan made his way to the meeting place, ready to confront his brother and face the truth, whatever it may be. Logan arrived at the meeting place, a secluded spot near the palace where he used to hide and watch Kaden as he played with other kids from noble families. Kaden was already there, leaning against a tree with his arms crossed. "Kade," Logan called out to him when he noticed that he still didn't know that he had arrived. "Logan," Kaden said with a nod. "What's this about? Why have you called me to this place?" Kaden looked around and Logan knew he remembered everything that had happened there. "You still remember?" He asked him carefully. "Yeah. You used to stand here and watch over me." He kept looking around and not looking at Logan. "I still remember how you used to beat everyone who dared to bully me because I was weak. "If Daniel hadn't pushed me that day, I wouldn't even know you were always around, making sure that I was okay. You have always been there for me, even when I didn't appreciate what you were doing for me." Logan didn't say anything, he just watched him as he spoke. "I remember that I used to be rude to them so that they could start beating me. I did all of that because I knew you would avenge me after that." He turned to look at Logan. "That's not why you have called me here though. What is it?" Logan wondered if it was the right time to ask him about Tiara but then he took a deep breath and tried to remain calm. "I need to ask you something, Kaden," he said, his voice steady. "Do you know anything about Tiara's disappearance?" Kaden's expression hardened, and Logan could see a flicker of anger in his eyes. "What are you trying to say, Logan? How could you even ask me something like that?" Logan held up his hands defensively. "No, I'm not accusing you. I just need to know if you have any information that could help us find her." Kaden shook his head. "I don't know anything, Logan. I've been with you and the search party every step of the way. You know that." For a moment, they stood in silence, just looking at each other. Finally, Kaden spoke up. "Logan, I know we've had our differences, but I swear to you, I had nothing to do with Tiara's disappearance." When Logan didn't say anything, Kaden added. "Logan, I know I haven't been the best brother to you, but I would never do anything to harm you. "I know it's hard to believe me after what happened but you have to believe me." "I want to believe you, Kaden," Logan said finally. "But I can't ignore the fact that you have a history of anger and resentment towards me. It's hard for me to believe that you would have nothing to do with this." Kaden shook his head; frustration was evident in his voice. "I know I've been angry in the past, Logan. But I would never do something like that. I know that sister-in-law is very important to you. We might not be friends but I know she cares about you too. You have to believe me." Logan hesitated for a moment, but then he nodded. "I believe you, Kaden," he said quietly. "I'm sorry for even asking." Kaden's expression softened, and he stepped forward to embrace his brother. "It's alright, Logan. I know this is hard for you. We'll find her, I promise." Logan felt a sense of relief wash over him, but he couldn't help but wonder if Kaden was telling the truth. He knew that he had to keep a close eye on his brother and watch for any signs of deception. As they parted ways, Logan couldn't shake the feeling that something wasn't right. He made a mental note to keep a close eye on Kaden and to continue the search for Tiara. Logan went back home, his mind racing with thoughts of Tiara and Kaden. He knew that he couldn't let his suspicions about his brother cloud his judgment or hinder the search for Tiara. But as he sat alone in his room, he couldn't help but wonder if there was something he was missing. He knew Kaden had a history of anger and resentment towards him, but he didn't want to believe that his brother was capable of something as heinous as abducting the princess, his own brother's wife. Even though they are not really brothers, Kaden doesn't know the truth about that yet. Logan shook his head, trying to clear his thoughts. He knew that he had to focus on finding Tiara and bringing her home. He couldn't afford to be distracted by his personal feelings towards Kaden. But as the days turned into weeks, and the search for Tiara turned up with no new leads, Logan couldn't shake the feeling that Kaden was hiding something. He watched his brother carefully, looking for any signs of deception, but Kaden seemed to be genuinely concerned about Tiara's well-being. "You're wondering if you did the right thing by trusting Kaden?" "Are you by any chance following me everywhere I go?" Logan looked at his younger brother. "I knew that whatever you guys were going to talk about was Tiara's disappearance and I wanted to know everything. Do you really trust him?" Clayton asked as he followed Logan to his room. "Why should I tell you? You have made it clear that you don't want to have a relationship with him." "Why should I be having a relationship with him? He's not my brother." "He doesn't know that." "So? That doesn't change the fact that he is not my brother." Logan sighed and looked at his younger brother. "I know, Clayton. I just wish we could all get along. But to answer your question, no, I'm not sure if I trust Kaden completely. I can't shake the feeling that he knows more than he's letting on." Clayton sat down next to Logan. "Do you think he's involved in Tiara's disappearance?" "He said he would never hurt Tiara, but I don't know. It's possible. I don't want to jump to conclusions either. I just wish we had more leads." He then added, when Clayton didn't say anything, "Look, I know it's complicated. But right now, Kaden might be the only lead we have on Tiara. We have to pretend to trust him if we want to find her." Clayton hesitated for a moment before saying something. "I guess you're right. It's just hard for me to see him as anything other than the guy who hurt you." Logan ran a hand through his hair, frustrated. "I know. But what can I do? I don't want to accuse him of anything without evidence." "You could try talking to him again. Maybe he'll open up more this time or maybe he'll let something slip if he really is involved. If that doesn't work, maybe we should hire a private investigator," Clayton suggested. Logan considered the idea. "It might be worth a try. Thanks, Clayton." "Of course. I just want to help in any way I can," Clayton said with a small smile. They finally arrived home, and they went to Logan's room. "I understand how you feel about Kaden. I just want you to know that I do." Logan went to the window and opened it, then closed his eyes and smelled the fresh air that had made its way into the room. "But we have to put that aside for now and focus on finding Tiara. Once she's safe, we can figure out what to do about Kaden." Clayton nodded slowly. "Okay. I'll try." He joined his brother next to the window and said, "I'll do whatever it takes to find Tiara. This is also affecting Arrianna. She might have recently learned that sister-in-law is her cousin but the two had developed a bond and with her being pregnant, she is very sensitive." Speaking of pregnancy, Logan couldn't help but wonder how it was treating Tiara. How was the baby doing? How was Tiara adjusting to it? All those questions kept making their way to his mind and he couldn't seem to shake them off. Just then, Gail called out from the kitchen. "Boys, dinner's ready!" Logan and Clayton headed to the kitchen, where Gail had prepared a simple meal of spaghetti and meatballs, Logan's favourite.
