Axel looked like he didn't even know how to respond to that question. He was definitely hiding something and Logan wanted to find out what it was.
"I asked you a question Axel, what happened to my father?" His voice was inhumane, much to his surprise. Everyone in the room stood up and looked at him with surprise on their faces.
"I'm sorry Your Majesty. I don't know how to tell you this."
"Why are you addressing him as 'Your Majesty'? You do realise what you're implying right?" Gail shouted at him.
"I'm sorry, aunt. I promised dad that I wouldn't tell anyone before I report back to him if I find Logan. I can't break that promise."
"You seem to have forgotten that your father and I are twins. He may be older than me but a promise made to him is automatically made to me too.
"I'm asking you to tell me what happened to the king and you will give me an answer. You don't want me to force you." Her eyes started glowing and by the way Axel looked, he had no choice but to comply.
"The new king, his younger brother, killed him twenty years ago. Nobody could do anything about it and now he is destroying the whole kingdom.
"My father sent me to look for Logan as he is the only one who can help us now." He turned to Logan. "I had told you that your people need you and I meant what I said.
"When your father died, you automatically became our king and our dragons are powerless without you and that's why we couldn't stop your uncle from ascending the throne."
There was complete silence after that, nobody said anything and it was like no one wanted to say anything. Axel sighed and decided to continue.
"Your uncle has connections and unless we fight back in using the powers of our dragons, we have no way of defeating him.
"I know you said that there's only one kingdom that you would protect with your life but you also have to consider that you belong to another kingdom as well, a kingdom where everyone is eagerly waiting for your return.
"Our kind value honesty and loyalty, they pride themselves for being the only shifters who values honesty and loyalty more than anything.
"They are loyal to you and when you finally return, they will stop everything they're doing to assist you in any way they can.
"You're our only hope, Your Majesty." He kept his head down, not even looking at Logan for once.
"If Logan is truly what and who you say he is, then what about me? You said that you didn't expect to find me here. What did you mean by that." Clayton asked him when no one said anything.
"That woman in the palace isn't your mother. I don't know how she got hold of you but you're not her child. You're Logan's baby brother, King Gerard III's second child."
Everyone was quiet after that. Logan looked at his brother, he has always wondered why they looked exactly the same.
Logan was also so much like him when he was his age, except for the sharp tongue. He fights like him, he carries himself with so much pride like Logan.
Now that he realised all that, when he was his age, he didn't trust Kaden even though he always wished they got along with his brother.
Clayton is just a younger version of Logan. Everything about him screams Logan. Logan wanted to know how the queen of Mercy got Clayton.
He wanted to head straight to the palace to ask her but then he knew he had to be vigilant about it just in case she had to kill people to get him.
He has never trusted her in his life and now things just got worse.
"I can't believe I've been living a lie all my life. I always knew I shared a special bond with Logan but I never thought this could be the reason." Clayton had a hard time accepting the truth.
Logan on the other side knew that everything he just heard is nothing but the truth and he was going to make sure that whoever started this gets what they deserve.
He wasn't going to sit down and cry about how his life had turned out, he was going to make sure that he avenged both his parents.
"I will hunt each and every one of them, they will never know what hit them. I swear on my mother's grave, I will kill them all and I will enjoy it." His voice was inhumane again and now it seemed something else was happening.
His body was sweating heavily, it was like he was surrounded by fire. Someone was shouting his name, telling him something but he couldn't understand what was being said.
All he could focus on was the itching of his entire body. He heard someone telling Tiara to do something but he didn't get what they asked her to do.
"Logan, my love you need to calm down. You can't shift here, it's not safe. Not for you, not for me or anybody around here. Please, come back to me."
When she placed her tiny hands on his shoulder, everything seemed to return back to normal. Logan looked at his mother.
"What is happening to me?" His voice was still not normal and he winced when he heard it. It didn't sound like him at all.
"You're going through your first shift. It's going to be very painful, maybe the most painful thing you'll ever go through in your life." Gail told him, looking so pale. Logan assumed that she was scared.
Logan didn't think there was something that was more painful than finding out that the people you thought were your parents are not really your parents and your real parents are dead.
He will never know his father, how he was, how he led his people and if he would've been a good father to him and his younger brother.
"If it gets worse, we will have to go somewhere very far from here so that you can shift freely. Everyone knows there are no dragons in Mercy and if they see you flying, we'll be in trouble."
"Are you okay? You scared the s**t out of me." Tiara checked if he was hurt somewhere and Logan couldn't help but smile.
"Relax darlin', I'm fine." When she looked at him like she didn't believe him, Logan sighed and cupped her face with both his hands. "I'm okay, I promise." He gave her a peck and held her in his arms.
"I know you're worried about me but you have nothing to worry about. I can handle anything and this shift is not going to destroy me."
He didn't know what to expect but he was sure he was going to be fine once everything is over. He had a lot to live for.
He just found out he had parents that loved him, parents that were killed, leaving him with only his younger.
He would never know how they looked like because someone decided to rob him of that. He could only assume that he looked like his father since Clayton looks like him.
"What about my mother? No one is saying anything about her. Where is she? Is she still alive?" Logan had forgotten to ask that too.
He knew they didn't share the same mother since his mother died after giving birth to him. Clayton's mother had to be out there, maybe living in the palace.
"After the late Queen's burial, the king, your father had to remarry and produce an heir. Everyone in the kingdom believed that the crowned prince died along with his mother.
"The Queen Mother arranged for the king to marry his former fiancée, the princess of Sky Kingdom, Princess Natasha Cunningham.
"No one knows what happened to her but she was found dead the day she gave birth and the baby was nowhere to be seen.
"Everyone pretty much assumed that the baby was killed but my father wouldn't believe it. He was sure that you're both alive and that one day you will come back home, where you've always belonged.
"He couldn't do anything about it though since the king was already dead when your mother was killed.
"I'm sorry that I've only been here to deliver bad news, I wish there was something I would say to make you both smile."
Logan could see the hope draining from Clayton's eyes and was quickly replaced with sorrow and anger.
"I will not spare them. All of them." He turned to Logan, his eyes red. "We will hunt every one of them and we will kill them all. I don't care what it takes, we will make them wish they never met our parents." He kept pacing around and his anger radiated from him.
"I have to go back to the palace, someone has a lot of explanations to do." Logan stopped him before he could leave the room.
"Are you sure you want to do that? What are you going to say to her? She raised you, remember?"
"You know I have so much respect for you, Big brother but you also know that she needs to explain how I ended up being her son.
"And for the record, she didn't raise me, she sent me to the Enclave because she knew I wasn't hers, just like she did with you."
Logan couldn't argue with that. He had no reason for stopping him from confronting the queen and he also wanted to know how she got Clayton.
He couldn't assume that she killed Clay's mother but he knew that Clay's mother didn't give her child to another woman willingly, a woman she didn't know.
"I'll go with you." He found himself saying. He wasn't going to let his brother go there alone since he didn't know what was going to happen when he tells the queen that he knows that she isn't his mother.
"Clay..." Arrianna called Clayton before he could leave the room. He turned back and looked at her. "Be careful and please, come back in one piece. Don't fight her."
Clayton went to her and embraced her in his arms. "I will come back, unharmed. I promise." He kissed the top of her head.
Logan did the same with his wife, he also promised her that he wasn't going to fight with the queen even though he wanted to for robbing his brother of his mother's love.
The guards in the palace were surprised to see them and when they made an attempt to stop Logan from entering, Clay's words made them go back to their positions.
"If you even dare touch him, I will make sure that I don't just kill you, I will kill your whole families and no one will even be able to stop me."
They made their way into the palace grounds, the servants were walking around doing their daily duties and attending errands from the king and queen.
Kaden was out talking to one of the royal guards. When he saw them though, he went to them.
"Why are you both looking like someone just killed somebody? Is there something wrong?"
When Clayton opened his mouth to talk, Logan beat him to it.
"Is your mom around?"
"Why? Something happened?"
"No, it's nothing serious. You don't have to worry about it. We just want to talk to her about something that concerns Clayton."
"She's in her chambers, she went there not long ago. I can ask the servants to let her know you want to have a word."
"That won't be necessary, I'll go there myself." Clayton spoke for the first time they got to the palace.
Kaden nodded his head and went back to his conversation with the guard.
"What was that for? You should have allowed me to tell him about his mother and what she has done to our family."
"Are you insane? Clayton, we don't know how the queen took you from your mother and if you lose your temper now, we may never know.
"It doesn't matter if Kade knows about it or not, what matters right now is that we get the truth from the queen, nothing else."
"I'm sorry."
"You don't need to apologise, what I need you to do is to be strong. I will not let anything happen to you. The queen may not be who we think she is."
