Chapter one: Third person POV
Hello everyone, before we start the chapter I want to clarify some things. This book is the story of Esmeralda, a character from "The Luna he rejected". Nevertheless, it tells her origin, so you can read it as a stand alone. It may have some triggering scenes, so I'm going to give a warning before a chapter that may contain sensitive topics. I want to thank everyone for the support given to my last story and that will begin this story as well. Hope you like it.
Pd. The daily updates in this story will start as soon as I finish the other one. For now, updates will be done weekly. Thank you all ❤️

The moon rose high in the sky, the wind roared furiously. It seemed like the earth was preparing itself for something magical. Something that would change its course. But it wasn’t something, it was a someone. So powerful that it couldn’t compare with anyone else. But with the gift of power, it also comes a curse. People that desired that power, that wanted it for their own benefit. If that power fell in the wrong hands, it would be the end of the world as we know it.
Sadly, with that power, fear also appeared. And our poor Esmeralda was the one to suffer it all. Ignorance causes a lot of suffering, ignorance towards power causes an inexplicable fear. The unknown is what people fear the most, and Esmeralda was the incarnation of something that the world hadn't seen.
The screams of a woman could be heard across the village, her baby seemed to be in an odd position, and they couldn’t take her out. They had tried several maneuvers to accommodate the baby, but they were obsolete. Time was running out, oxygen would soon be scarce inside the woman's womb, and eventually the baby would perish.
Suddenly, a powerful voice emerged from the shadows.
“What is taking so long?” The leader of the tribe appeared. Everyone bowed in his presence, except for the lady who was assisting the poor woman’s labor. She had tried everything she could, nothing had helped.
“She is not in position chief. I can’t take her out.” The poor woman said with sweat on her forehead. She has worked for hours now, and no progress has been achieved.
“She is my heir, I don’t care what happens to her mother, just take her out. Alive, or you will pay with your life.”
The poor woman didn’t know what to do. The only way to save the child was to cut the mother open, but in her condition it was a death sentence. If she didn’t deliver this baby, then her life was at stake. The decision was clear. She couldn’t risk her life, and so she grabbed a knife and started opening her abdomen.
The lady cried in pain. They didn’t give her anything to soothe it. They didn’t have much time. To save the baby they had to take her out at that instant.
Blood started oozing from the wound at a rapid rate. That was the thing with this procedure, as the mother’s pressure was high, they always bled out, making it impossible to save them both.
She reached the uterus, made the final cut to feel the baby. She finally reached her head and took her out. The cries filled the room, the mother asked to grab her baby, she wanted to feel her, even if she was going to die, she wanted to see her baby.
A mother’s love was the greatest love that anyone could feel, but sadly, both mother and daughter weren’t granted the gift to meet each other.
“Give me the child.” The same powerful voice from before spoke.
“Please, chief, let me see her.” The woman pleaded. She just wanted to meet her child, a right that couldn’t be denied to a mother, but the man didn’t have a heart, and if he did, it was made of stone.
“It is best if she doesn’t know you, you are going to die anyway.” He said and took the crying child in his arms.
“Kea u rohaka, bophelo ba hau bo lelekisoe ke bademona bohle, litoro tsa hau li hlaseloe ke litoro tse mpe. bophelo ba hao bo fele kapele mme puso ya hao e we.”
(Translation
I curse you, may your life be pursued by all demons, may your dreams be plagued by nightmares. May your life end soon and your reign fall.)
The man ignored everything that the woman said. He only cared about the baby that he carried, but not because of love, he wanted her for the power that she could provide. A long time ago, a seer told him that he would have an heir with great power, that she would be known everywhere. The seer gave him clear instructions on how to find the perfect woman to create this child, and that is what he did. The only thing that he didn’t take into account was that great power is desired by everyone and that poor child had fallen victim to a demon. One that looked to steal that power from her, to seduce her, to corrupt her.
The man was ignorant of this matter. The problems during birth weren’t there out of nowhere, they were a sign that the child shouldn’t have been born. It was a way for nature to prevent imbalance in their forces, but some people don’t care even if all the signs are given to them.
He took the child home, to the person that was going to take care of her. He had to find a woman that could serve as her mother, and he found the perfect fit.
His surprise was huge when he gave the child to the woman to hear her scream in fear.
“What is wrong with you?” He said angrily. He didn’t want her to wake up the child, but when he approached the woman he could see why she screamed. The baby’s eyes were red, like blood. That was a sign of a curse.
He wanted to kill the baby with his own hands. He tried to do it, but there was a force that couldn’t let him touch the baby with ill intentions. He was mad at the seer for not preventing him. Now he could only do one thing. Abandon the child, that way nature could claim her back, and all of this wouldn't have happened.
What he didn't take into account was that a mother's love is the strongest force to exist. And a dying mother could exchange her life to save her child. And that is precisely what she did. She exchanged her life with another force of nature, to help her child survive. And so, when the man left the child in the cold, alone and giving her the name "Diabolosi" (Devil) to demonstrate her nature. The baby was left alone, crying in the dark, awaiting her death.
