At the same time he had the inescapable feeling that he had missed something.
“Why did your father die when he was so young?” he asked Ina now.
“I think he had strained his heart when he and Mama went climbing mountains in Turkey. I was very young at the time and they left me with some friends while they went off exploring.”
“Why Turkey?” Lord Wymonde enquired.
“Where they went was very beautiful, as I saw later from Papa’s pictures,” Ina replied. “Apparently Papa wanted to sketch a view from the top of a mountain and they were marooned there all night in a storm. After that, sometimes in the winter he would have a very bad cough and complained that his chest hurt him.”
Ina made a little gesture with her hands.
