* * * * Kel’s mouth tightened before he nodded. “I suspect you’re right,” he replied grudgingly. The last thing he wanted to do was spend the rest of the night in such close proximity to Richard. Too close, and yet, if he was going to be honest with himself, not close enough. Sleeping on the sofa, knowing Richard was only a few steps away in his bedroom, would be torment. He couldn’t figure out why he felt such a strong attraction to a man who, as far as he could tell, saw him as nothing more than a friend—if that. More likely, he figured, Richard looked on him as someone who was trying to protect him from Giffard and nothing more.
