Chapter 3Thursday morning, Richard dressed for work and then, at nine, left the condo. He was carrying his laptop in the messenger bag, along with the bug and explosive detector, a tool he wryly thought of as a daily part of his arsenal—at least for the time being. He checked the car, found nothing that worried him, and headed downtown to his store and the lot where he normally parked. No one followed him as far as he could tell. Leaving the car in the lot, he made a quick trip up to the store to leave the messenger bag in his office. He got a book from the shelf, tucked it under his arm, and then went across the street to the coffee shop.
