*** FLASHBACK ***
Her stomach lurched from Dianna shimmering them to their present location. Stumbling, she fought to keep what little contents of her stomach down, while at the same time taking in her new surroundings. Maverick was by her side, seemingly not phased by the knee jerk form of transportation. She heard a small giggle and lifted her head carefully to find the woman, Dianna, wiggling her eyebrows as Novalynn tried desperately to hide just how badly the teleport had rattled her. “ What are you staring at? It’s not so bad.” Novalynn grimaced. Dianna chuckled in response, shaking her head as she walked away. Maverick came over to her, placing a supportive arm around her waist. She smiled at him while rolling her eyes. “First you introduce me to a strange woman, naked might I add, then you forget to mention this… Well quite frankly, this fresh hell.” She grumbled, another wave of nausea hitting her. Maverick tilted his head back, roaring with laughter at her obvious dismay. “I thought you said it wasn’t so bad, love. Come, let’s have a seat while you get yourself pulled back together. Don’t feel bad, I had the same reaction the first time she shimmered me someplace.” He said to her with a wink. Novalynn groaned and allowed him to lead her towards a roaring campfire. As she sat on a log, allowing her insides to settle, she could see that they were far from alone. People of all different sorts sat around the fire, or off in small clusters. The masses seemed completely oblivious or even unbothered by their sudden arrival, as though it was a common occurrence. The general atmosphere was a happy one. Despite how she was feeling, Nova felt a smile cross her face. “You’ve brought me to the Rebels, haven’t you?” She observed. Maverick placed a large hand softly on her knee, nodding, “I have. You know them as the Rebel Group, but to me, they’ve become my family.” He explained. She nodded, leaning in closer to him as exhaustion settled in. Her mind began to wander with worry, the gruesome image of her parents' death playing against her thoughts as she struggled to maintain her composure. Feeling her stiffen, Maverick wrapped an arm around her shoulder, pulling her tight to him. "Listen to me, Novalynn. We will be okay, YOU will be okay. You are safe here. Havoc and I will let no harm come to you. In this place, or any, for that matter." Her tears fell silently as she simply nodded her head. Dia whimpered in her head. "Believe him, my sweet Nova. You are stronger than you could ever imagine. The Moon Goddess matched us not only with each other, but with Maverick and Havoc for a reason." She coaxed. Nova closed her eyes, allowing the comfort of her wolf's voice to wrap around her like a blanket. What she wouldn't give to be alongside her sister right now. She said a prayer to Selene, asking for protection for her twin, begging that they be reunited. As the night went on, she laid her head on Maverick's lap, letting sleep take over as she battled back and forth with peace and panic. The days turned into months and Novalynn was finally confident of her place within the Rebel Group. Dianna and her had become best friends, soul sisters really, and it was the vampire who insisted Novalynn begin her battle training. She worked hard, learning combat techniques in and out of wolf form, taking lessons from all types of shifters. The mate bond between herself and Maverick was unstoppable. They connected on levels she never dreamt existed. The intimacy between them was like a fire blazing through the world. Each time he took her in his arms, she'd fall apart, aching for him to piece her together again. Novalynn was in love. She was happy and thriving. However, a void still existed within her, she wasn't complete. It was these thoughts she had as she flung her opponent, over her shoulder, on the training field. He landed with a thud, wincing as he worked to lift himself off the ground. His arm hung at a different angle than normal. Novalynn rushed to him, concerned she had thrown him a bit too hard. "Are you alright, Edward? Here, let me take a look at that arm." Edward winced as she gingerly put a hand on the oddly bent arm. Her stomach lurched slightly, a piece of bone was protruding through the skin. Novalynn bit her lip. "Erm... I'm sorry Ed, but I think we are all done for the day." "It's bad, isn't it? I've broken a wing arm before but this is feels much worse." He stated while cradling the injured arm. Edward was a bird shifter and they didn't heal quite like wolves. Novalynn was pretty sure the break would effect his flying abilities. "Yes, it doesn't look too good. We are going to have to take you to a town for a healer." Novalynn sighed, looking at him sorrowfully as she placed her hand back on his arm. Edward let out a small sob. It was dangerous for any of them to come out of the woods, Jagson had spies everywhere. Suddenly, Dia spoke to her, "Nova, put your hands on either side of his shoulders". Novalynn was confused but did it anyway, having come to trust the wolf within. "Now, close your eyes. Imagine the bone, whole, under the skin in the place it should be." Dia instructed softy. Novalynn did as asked, her eyebrows furrowed in concentration. She could see the bone, jutted out from the shoulder blade, blood dripping down the young man's back. She felt her hands began to thrum, tingling, a gentle throb against her chest plate. She kept her eyes closed as she imagined the bone sliding back into place, the skin growing safely over it. Dia let out a small bark in her mind, a happy one that sounded like pride. "Congratulations, my sweet healer girl. Open your eyes and see what we did!" The wolf sang to her. Novalynn opened her eyes, shock resonating within her. Edward's arm was perfect, unscathed, not even a scar. She heard soft murmurs and was surprised to see the training field full of people who had watched her perform the healing. Maverick was among them and he walked over to her, a broad smile on his face. "You're remarkable, Nova. Do you have any idea what you just did?" He asked before kissing her on the lips. She giggled, lightly smacking him as he picked her up twirling her in the air. "I do, but go on, tell me." She teased, her hands wrapping around him as he held her in the air. "Well, you know you healed him, but your body glowed white as you did. A small bright green pulse coming from your chest. It's a shame you had your eyes closed, but I imagine they were lit as well. You are a healer, my fantastic, bold mate. I always wondered, given Dia's spattering of white, and now, we all know." Maverick smiled at her, bringing his forehead to hers. "Why green though? I did feel an odd throb at my chest. Nothing painful, almost like a light tapping." She mused, touching the place she spoke of. Maverick set her on the ground, his eyebrows crinkled in thought. " Your opal, you are touching the spot where the opal lies." She met his eyes with her emerald greens, an understanding passed between them. Since their arrival, an older man had been telling Novalynn she was the daughter of a mermaid and the Alpha. "Perhaps the story is true. Do you think this could be why Cora never met her wolf?" She pondered. "I think it may have something to do with all of this. Once Mikael returns, we will make a plan, go back to Droake, and rescue your sister." Maverick nodded. "It's time Maverick. It's been nearly six months since we were separated at the Moon Feast. I need to know she's okay, bring her to freedom like you did for me." Novalynn looked at him, tears welling up in her eyes. "I swear to you Nova, we will free her." Maverick pulled her in, kissing her softly. She nodded, resting her head against his chest, their bond warming through her. It wouldn't be long before Mikael returned and then, she would see her sister again. Several days later, Edward returned from his flight over Prix. There was worry in his voice as he told them about the massive brawl happening at that very moment. A handful of witches, the vampires, including Dianna, and a small force of Rebels were tasked to investigate. Arriving at the the edge of the forest, Novalynn watched the mayhem unfold. Her gaze stopped short. There, in the middle of the field was Cora, arms stretched toward the sky, summoning the storm overhead. A flash of charcoal passed in front of her twin and there was Cyclone, jaws stretched out around the woman's neck. Without hesitation, Novalynn ran towards Cora. Dia coming forward as Novalynn ripped her shirt off. The black and white tipped wolf sprung against the mass of gray, sending him sprawling across the grass. She wanted to kill him, and didn't argue as Dia lunged forward her jaws snapping, aiming for a kill. Cyclone stood. He was smaller than them, but too daft to notice. They collided, a ball of fur and claws, gnashing at one another. Dia stood on her two hind legs, towering the would-be Alpha as she swiped her massive claws at him. He nipped at her legs, trying to knock her off balance but Dia had the size advantage. When Cyclone rose to his own hind legs, she lowered her head and hammered into his chest with a large whoosh of her neck. Novalynn could hear the air leaving his lungs as the wolf of the King went flying through the air. Now was their moment. How easily they could kill him as he lay crumpled a few short feet away. She heard movement behind her, and she knew Cora was awake. Dia turned, and they waited, nuzzling Cora on the shoulder. The moment her sister's brilliant, dark blue eyes met the fluorescent green of Dia's, Novalynn felt peace. The void she had dissipated the moment she embraced the twin she had been separated from for far too long.
