Chapter 28: Protecting Lucy!

He was certain that the sniper was above them. Diving to the deepest part of the river wasn't a viable hiding strategy for long—the first moment his head breached the surface would be just as deadly as staying underwater for more than ten seconds. So, there was only one option left— Rely on instinct. It was a gamble on who would act faster! In his hand, seemingly appearing out of nowhere, was a small pebble, clutched tightly even underwater. Looking at Lucy. Breathing... She seemed on the verge of not being able to hold on any longer. Jack found it hard to imagine— How this woman, even in such a moment, could remain calm. Her expression was unchanged from start to end. Was her heart made of iron? Or, as rumors had it, did she truly lack the capacity for emotion? A robot? Impossible! His mind raced through possible tactics. There were at least two people here to kill Lucy. Among these two, only one was skilled with a gun. The other likely didn't have a firearm. If the other unknown assailant also had a gun and knew how to use it, when the sniper fired, this other person would cover any potential escape route for him. Even with his heightened alertness to danger, dodging would be significantly more challenging. Not everyone knows how to use a gun. That was the flaw. "If that's really the case, we still have a chance!" Jack really didn’t want to take a gamble. But seeing Lucy struggling to keep up in the water, he had to take a risk. He thought... Even if this woman was on her last breath, she probably wouldn’t utter a sound. One second— Two seconds. In that moment, Jack abruptly surfaced from the water. His head popped up. "Hmm?" The sniper, upon seeing Jack emerge, suddenly grinned, having been searching for Jack in the dim light reflected off the water. Expecting Jack, he aimed the gun at Jack's head, ready to fire. "Shoot now!" the old fox urged. "I know!" But at the very moment of aiming. Jack moved like lightning. He hurled the stone in his hand. One hit, striking the Eagle’s eye. Two stones, hitting both eyes. "Ah!" Eagle had never expected that this man could act so swiftly, hitting his eyes precisely with the stones, plunging his world into darkness. Reacting instinctively, he fired a shot, but its destination remained unknown. "My eyes!" "Ah!!" "My eyes!" Eagle screamed, clutching his blood-flowing eyes. The pain was excruciating. His eyes were completely ruined by Jack. At that moment, Jack grabbed Lucy's arm, pulling her head out of the water for air. She had to breathe. This woman couldn't swim at all. As Lucy gasped for air, Jack didn't waste a moment. With a splash, he leaped from the Meihu River. The next instant, his fist landed on Eagle's head with lightning speed, a strike so fast it was astonishing. Eagle was knocked unconscious by Jack's punch, his head dropping heavily to the ground. Shaking off the water from his hand, Jack clenched his right fist, turning his gaze to Bull, whose arms were covered in black hair, and Old Fox, a foreigner with blue eyes that seemed devoid of any emotion. "There's forty seconds left, let's finish him off first!" Old Fox licked his lips, unfazed by Eagle's blinding. He retrieved a dagger from his pant leg. "I don't use guns," Old Fox sneered, his attempt at the Hua Xia language awkward. "But, killing with a dagger is more interesting!" Jack narrowed his eyes, sizing up the two men. Whoosh! Suddenly, Old Fox's dagger flew towards him. Jack dodged swiftly to the side. However— As the dagger passed by him, inexplicably changing direction, it eerily stabbed towards Jack's back. Old Fox grinned. Bull then threw a punch at Jack, attempting a pincer move. When Jack dodged the dagger and saw Bull charging, he intended to step back instinctively, but then felt a chill on his back, freezing for a split second. In the blink of an eye, Jack executed a rolling leap. "Thread?" Jack murmured to himself. The dagger was controlled by a thread. This was— Experts. The ability to infiltrate the small woods unseen, the almost inaudible sniper rifle, now an assassination attempt with a wire-controlled dagger, and the impeccable coordination between Bull and Old Fox—these were not only signs of a premeditated assassination but also the work of three expert characters. As Jack somersaulted to avoid the dagger. Bull charged forward. Exposed in the air, he had many weaknesses. But as Jack somersaulted, he swiftly extended both legs, kicking Bull's chest with all his might. However, Bull stood unshaken. Frowning, Jack flexibly used his legs as leverage for another flip landing onto the ground. He eyed Bull and Old Fox cautiously. Bull flexed his neck, making a crackling sound, while Old Fox clutched the dagger, ominously staring at Jack. Jack glanced at the Meihu River, feeling somewhat anxious, the longer the delay, the greater the danger to Lucy, who was still in the river. Surprisingly, for a woman so affluent, she couldn't swim. Jack took a deep breath. "I can't delay any longer..." The next moment, his figure blurred, a step forward, body slanting, leading to a punch towards Bull. "Humph!" Bull snorted, a punch full of muscle and strength colliding with Jack's smaller, seemingly less powerful one. Boom! Old Fox wanted to laugh. He actually dared to exchange blows with Bull. But the next moment— His laughter ceased. Because, as Jack clashed fists with Bull, Bull's face turned red. It was a strained red. Seeing this, Jack knew his chance had arrived. Retracting his punch, he pivoted Bull's arm aside. In that instant, he threw three consecutive punches, all landing on Bull's chest. Bull couldn't keep up with Jack's punching speed. However— Bull indeed had an astonishing resilience. His own fists became somewhat numb after striking. Bull finally took two steps back. "Damn it!" Bull clenched his teeth, swinging his arm towards Jack. Jack ducked, keeping an eye on Old Fox, noticing his dagger already disappeared. Whoosh! Jack leaned to the side. The dagger swung past him again. To deal with Old Fox, Bull needed to be taken out first. And Bull was relentlessly attacking him. Jack flicked his arm, exposing his chest. Seeing Jack's apparent vulnerability, Bull suddenly threw a punch. But at the moment of Bull's move, Jack swiftly grabbed Bull's right arm, prying apart four of Bull's fingers with two fingers, leaving only one. With a snap! One of Bull's fingers was broken! Any hand is hard to unload, but the fingers are definitely the weak point, and aiming for just one is enough. "Ah!!" Bull's finger was completely twisted off, resulting only in a low growl. Jack kicked Bull's chest. By now, Bull had already lost his initial stability. Old Fox was just about to throw the dagger, but seeing Bull's broken finger, he hesitated quickly. If he stabbed Jack's back, Jack could dodge, causing the dagger to stab Bull. "There's movement inside!" "What's happening!" "Go check it out quickly!" Upon seeing this, Old Fox checked the time. "Go!" Old Fox grabbed Bull. As they passed the unconscious Eagle, a dagger suddenly pierced the latter's heart. With a squelch, Eagle, who had been knocked out by Jack, was dead. "Hurry up!" Old Fox and Bull ran deeper into the woods. Jack could have stopped them. But he had no time. His primary task was to protect Lucy. Lucy, who couldn't swim, was still in the river! If he went after the two men, Lucy would certainly die. Seeing Bull and Old Fox escape, he quickly ran towards the Meihu River. With a splash, he plunged into the river. Though the river wasn't very fast, to Lucy who couldn't swim at all, it was a struggle. "I hope my employer is smart enough not to open her mouth, even if she feels like she's about to faint from suffocating, otherwise, it's going to be troublesome!" Jack plunged into the water. "Bang!" "Bang!" Gunshots could be heard from above. That was the bodyguard team chasing after Old Fox and Bull.
