#musicvibe - A new way to bleed, Evanescence * Grey Moon pack. July 30th, 2146 * Evelyn POV The harsh knock on the front door made us jump and we scurried into the furthest corner of the room. Micah hugged me tightly and I whimpered in fear. “I don’t want them to take you.” I whispered. “It’s okay.” He replied shakily. “It’s my time now, Evy.” Tears welled up in my eyes and I clung to him, knowing that it was the last time I hugged him. We had been through this before. Every time somebody shifted, the Alpha came during the night with a group of soldiers and dragged them away. We never saw them again. Micah had shifted the night before, and I knew that it was his turn. This had been going on for as long as I could remember, and after everyone disappeared one by one for the past seventeen years, the orphanage was practically empty. Micah and I were the only ones left. We were only babies when our parents were killed. Everyone knew the story. Our parents were traitors to the pack. They were murdered by the Alpha for standing up to him. We grew up being hated by the pack, and after a while we all got used to it. But once we turned eighteen, our lives were over. That was the one thing we never got used to. I held my breath and slowly released it when we heard footsteps coming up the stairs, closer and closer to my bedroom where we were sitting on the floor in the furthest corner away from the door with Micah almost completely covering me with his body. The door burst open and two warriors stepped in. They both grabbed hold of Micah’s arms and forcefully pulled him away from me. “Please don’t hurt him.” I cried, but there was no use. “I love you Evy.” Micah cried as he struggled against the warriors, fear of what was about to happen taking over him and tears trickled down his cheeks. “I love you too.” I sobbed. The warriors pulled him out of the room, and my breath caught in my throat when the Alpha entered the room along with the warden, Mrs Wyatt. She was a tall, thin lady with dark hair in a bun and black clothes. She was tasked by the Alpha to keep us in line, and she gladly did with that cane of hers. I still had bruises on the back of my legs after the last time she beat me with it after I accidentally dropped a plate in the kitchen. “Is this the last one?” The Alpha asked. Mrs Wyatt nodded and a smile stretched across the Alpha’s face. “Then we’re almost free of the vermin.” He said and lightly kicked my leg with his foot, making me hug my knees and push my back against the wall as hard as I could. My heart pounded in my chest when the Alpha crouched down next to me and my whole body trembled. “You’re a pretty little thing.” He whispered and patted my hair. “When do you turn eighteen?” “N-Next w-week.” I whispered. The Alpha got to his feet and turned to Mrs Wyatt. “You are now relieved of your duties.” The Alpha said. I looked up at him in fear. Were they going to kill me too along with Micah? I hadn’t prepared to die today, but since everyone else was gone I wasn’t really surprised that he wanted to get rid of me too. He gestured for the last warrior to enter the room. “Take her back to the packhouse.” He ordered. “She can work there as a servant for the remainder of her days.” “Yes Alpha.” The warrior said, took my arm and hauled me to my feet. I wasn’t sure if I was relieved that he left me alive or disappointed that he wasn’t putting me out of my misery. My execution wasn’t avoided after all, just postponed. When I was led out of the rundown house that I had called home all my life, a movement caught my eye. I turned my head and saw the two warriors that had left with Micah come out of the forest. I swallowed the cry that almost escaped me when I saw their bloody hands, and I knew that Micah was dead. My mind started to go numb, and I barely registered the fire that erupted behind me when they set the old orphanage on fire, burning it to the ground and erasing the last trace of the children that had once lived there. * Youngblood Castle July 30th 2146 * Talon POV Captain Cass walked into my office and bowed. “My king.” He greeted. “I have brought what you asked for.” Four vampires walked into the room behind him and he gestured to them. “These are the four most capable warriors in the whole army.” He explained. “I have hand picked them myself for this mission.” After making sure that there were no servants listening in on the conversation, I walked up to the men and studied them one by one. They were all dressed in uniform, standing in attention on a straight line, staring blankly in front of them. They were all large and bulky, and I was pleased with the group that Captain Cass had delivered for the first phase of my plan. “They look capable to me.” I replied. “Listen up. I have a very important mission for you, but before I go into detail, I need to know if you are ready to die for the future of the kingdom.” "Yes, my king." They all replied in unison, kind of like robots. I liked that. They seemed to be really coordinated and no one hesitated when they replied. “Good.” I continued. “This mission is very dangerous, and I need the best of the best for this. You are most likely up against an adversary that you can’t fight, but it’s important that you do everything in your ability to kidnap her. Do you understand?” “Yes, my king.” They all replied again. I took out a photo from a file, showing a woman in her mid twenties dressed in a black combat suit. Her curly brown hair was braided into two dutch braids away from her face and trailed down her shoulders to her waist. “This is your target.” I said and showed them the picture. “Her name is Valeria Adams. She was recently crowned queen of the English Lycan Empire.” I tapped the picture, emphasizing my next words. “Do not underestimate her.” I said. “She was born human, but according to my sources, she was given powers through illegal experiments and is the first human ever classed as a weapon of mass destruction. No one knows the true extent of her powers, but from what has been witnessed this far, she is extremely powerful.” I didn’t mention that I had gotten hold of security footage from about a month ago when she was battling drones in Jubilee Garden. After studying the footage closely, I had managed to find her weakness and I paid a hefty price to manufacture a weapon that could stop her. I didn’t expect the men in front of me to survive their mission, but if they did, I didn’t want any information getting in the wrong hands. The lycans were filthy creatures and I wouldn’t be surprised if the men were caught during their mission and tortured into telling everything they knew. “Make your preparations carefully.” I continued. “Captain Cass will give you the details of the mission. Any questions?” “No, my king.” They all replied. “Good.” I said. “Dismissed.” The men bowed and walked out of the office, and I turned to Captain Cass. “Getting into Lycan territory won’t be easy.” I said. “I’ll give them a month to complete the mission. If they haven’t come back after that, I will launch my next phase of this operation anyway.” “Yes my king.” Captain Cass replied. “That will be all.” I said and dismissed him too. I took out the picture of Valeria and smiled. “Soon, you’ll be mine.” I whispered. “And we’ll finally be freed from this curse.”
