Garrett POV
It was still early morning, and I watched Evelyn sleep.
After everything that happened, Evelyn said that she didn’t want to be alone, so the same night as we found out that we were mates, she came back to the Gamma wing with me. I couldn’t be happier that I never had to spend a single night without her. I witnessed Tyson struggle when Valeria wanted him to stay away from her after she found out about the mate bond, but it wasn’t until I held my own mate in my arms that I realized the pain he must have been in back then.
And the pain he was in right now.
My heart was breaking for my best friend who was always so strong and brave, but ever since the vampires took Valeria, it was like he had lost the will to live, and I couldn’t blame him.
The morning light was seeping in through the curtains and I was relishing in the beautiful view before me. Evelyn was sleeping draped over my chest. She had fallen asleep that way last night and I didn’t have the heart to move her, especially since her scent, the sparks and her warmth made me fall asleep too.
I propped myself up a bit against the headboard, careful not to wake her, and looked at her relaxed face as she slept. She was only in her underwear, the hot summer nights made her take off the nightgown on the first night already. Her face was red as a tomato and she was so cute when she pulled the nightgown off and hid underneath the covers, trying to hide as much of her body as possible. I saw how scared and self conscious she was so I was careful not to push her and was just grateful that she was comfortable enough around me to show that much of herself.
She always hid under the covers until I got up, and quickly changed into something while I was in the bathroom. This was the first morning that her body wasn’t completely covered. When I could see her body clearly, I realized that there might be a reason for her strange behavior.
I traced the lines on her back, trying not to let my rage take over. She had whip marks all over her back and the back of her thighs. Her arms had small dots, like cigarette burns, and I felt an overwhelming sadness over everything my mate had gone through.
I couldn’t understand why someone would hurt a pup with no wolf like this, and I wanted to kiss every scar away and heal her pain. I wanted her to know that she would never have to feel that pain ever again.
Evelyn stirred and lifted her head. Her sleepy blue eyes met mine and after a second of confusion, she realized that she was lying on top of me. A small puddle of her saliva had formed on my chest and she wasn’t wearing anything to cover her. I had pushed the covers off during the night because it got too hot and I didn’t want to move her.
Evelyn’s eyes widened and scrambled to get off of me. I instantly missed her warmth and I smiled softly at her when she pulled the covers up to cover herself.
“You don’t have to hide Evy.” I said and sat up. “Not from me.”
She shook her head.
“I’m sorry.” She whispered hoarsely.
I reached out and cupped her cheek, my thumb tracing over her plump lips.
“It’s okay.” I said. “Tell me why you feel so uncomfortable showing your body. Is it because of those scars?”
Evelyn looked down in her lap and nodded.
I took both her hands in mine and brought them to my lips. Evelyn watched as I kissed them.
“You know, you have so much in common with Valeria.” I said. “She sometimes struggles with her body image. I think you have noticed that she has a lot of scars too.”
Evelyn nodded.
“But she’s a warrior.” She said softly. “Her scars tell this amazing story about how strong she is and everything that she survived.”
“And yours don’t?” I asked.
She shook her head.
“There’s no story behind mine.” She whispered. “They’re a reminder that I could never do anything right. That no matter what, everyone would always hate me.”
I leaned forward and captured her lips in a soft kiss. When I pulled back, I saw tears glistening in her eyes.
“Your scars do tell a story.” I said. “They tell me about a girl that suffered through so much, through. No. Fault. Of. Her. Own.”
I squeezed her hands for every word I said.
“But no matter what they did, they could never break her soul.” I smiled. “Anyone else could have ended their misery a long time ago. Anyone else could have started to inflict pain on others to ease the pain they felt. But you didn’t.”
I chuckled.
“In a matter of a few weeks, you have gone from a doomed servant in a werewolf packhouse, to being the most powerful werewolf in the country.”
Evelyn scrunched her face up.
“That’s just because I’m mated to you.” She protested. “I didn’t exactly do anything to become the royal Gamma female, and I haven’t even shifted yet.”
“But you were the most powerful werewolf even before then.” I replied. “Who’s been creating evacuation routines for the pack? Who’s been covering for Valeria in the meetings with the Maxwell building?”
“Me.”
“Who’s strong and wise enough to take up the queen’s duties in her absence?”
“Me.”
“Who is the most powerful werewolf in the country?”
A proud smile stretched across Evelyn
“Me.”
“You see.” I chirped. “They couldn’t break you. And that’s the story your scars are telling.”
It was like a weight was lifted from Evelyn’s shoulders and she lowered the covers, revealing her beautiful body.
“So amazing.” I whispered, my mouth watering at the sight of her.
I reached out and caressed her collarbone with the back of my hand. Going lower, I traced the edge of her bra. Evelyn shivered and she bit her lip.
My eyes widened when she reached back and unclasped her bra. It fell into her lap and she pushed it away. Evelyn’s cheeks tinged pink, but I couldn’t hold back.
I had to taste her.
I leaned forward and took her left n*pple in my mouth. Evelyn gasped as I swirled my tongue around the hardening bud.
My arms wrapped around her waist and I gently pulled her down underneath me so that she was laying on her back and I straddled her thighs. I scanned her face for any signs of discomfort, but I stiffened and my c*ck twitched when I smelled her arousal.
“My Goddess, I love you.” I whispered before lowering my head to her n*pples again.
A moan escaped Evelyn, the sound rippling through me like a shockwave and I felt goosebumps rising on my skin from the heavenly sound. It urged me to continue, and I started gently rubbing her vulva through her panties.
I nuzzled my face into the crook of her neck and sucked on her marking spot. My gums tingled, the instinct to mark her almost overwhelming me, but I knew that it was better if we waited until Evelyn shifted too. It would feel better for the both of us when she had the ability to mark me back, and I wanted to wait until then.
“I want to touch you.” I whispered.
“Yes please.” Evelyn moaned breathlessly.
Her hips bucked against my pelvis, and my c*ck became painfully hard.
I reached down and slipped a finger inside her panties. Evelyn gasped when I slid my finger up and down her folds. I could feel her wetness on my finger, and I teased her opening a little.
I sat back and slid her panties down her legs. Her naked body was right in front of me, and I stared in awe at my blushing mate underneath me while I started stroking her folds again.
I wanted to do so much with her. I wanted to explore every inch of her.
So when a mindlink came in from Kayden, I almost groaned out loud.
“We have a problem.” He said, and I could hear the urgency in his voice. “Get to Tyson’s office as fast as you can.”

Tyson POV
The ocean waves crashed against the shore, the sound almost like a lullaby.
Valeria was sitting by the water, wearing a white dress. The waves lapped at her legs, soaking the fabric of her dress until it clung to her long legs.
I walked closer and she looked up at me.
“I’ve been waiting for you.” She said.
Her angelic voice soothed my aching soul and I smiled.
“I miss you.” I whimpered. “So much.”
“I’m never too far away.” Valeria replied calmly.
I fell to my knees next to her and reached out my hand to touch her cheek.
“I just want to feel you.” I whispered.
Just as I was about to touch her. A wave splashed up on us, and I cried out when I saw Valeria disintegrate and disappear into the ocean.
“NO!” I yelled. “Come back!”
“Come back!”
I jolted out of bed, my heart shattering into a million pieces as I realized that it was all a dream.
It wasn’t real.
My mate wasn’t here.
I crashed to the floor, struggling for breath.
“Please Moon Goddess.” I cried. “Please get my mate back.”
I didn’t know how long I was lying on the floor, but when I saw the light seep in through the curtains, I got up and opened them. I was surprised at how bright it was outside and when I glanced at the alarm clock on the nightstand, I realized that it was ten in the morning. I hadn’t slept much during the night, the dreams of Valeria coming back over and over again.
I forced myself to take a shower and head for my office. Even though I just wanted to crawl into a ball and stay there, I had a kingdom to rule, and I couldn’t fail my people.
Especially when it had been two days since the negotiations took place, and I was painfully aware that not doing what King Talon demanded could cause harm to Valeria.
But the thing was, there was no way I could do what Talon demanded. It was impossible. There were a lot of wolves in Cambridge, many of them were from the Caniluna pack going to university, and even if I had two weeks, I might be able to get them all out temporarily. But it wasn’t going to happen in two days no matter how hard I tried.
I also knew that Valeria didn’t want me to do it, so I was trapped between wanting to respect her wishes and wanting to achieve the impossible to save her.
But instead I prayed to the Moon Goddess, begging her to protect Valeria from harm, and I knew that I was never going to be able to forgive myself if anything happened to her because of this.
But I knew that Alex had been telling the truth. I could still feel Valeria’s emotions through our bond, even if I couldn’t communicate with her. I sensed small spikes of fear and frustration that only lasted a few moments, but other than that, I knew that she wasn’t in pain and she was as safe as she could be.
As I was about to sit down by my desk, a sudden spike of paralyzing fear, followed by rage, spiked through the bond so suddenly that I stopped in my tracks. I waited patiently for it to pass, but when it intensified and I started feeling a searing pain in my arms and shoulders, I knew that this was bad.
“They’re hurting her.” Dax howled in despair. “They’re hurting Mate!”
