Valeria POV
We were riding in silence towards the vampire territory, and I started to feel nervous.
I had a bit of a bad feeling about this. The vampires in custody seemed way too smug for us to have a clear picture, and I feared that we were walking into a trap.
My feelings got stronger when Tyson announced that we crossed into vampire territory and I didn’t see or sense a single person nearby.
“They are not that into border security, are they?” I muttered.
“It’s a little weird.” Tyson replied. “According to reports, they are usually quite thorough.”
I was deep in thought trying to understand what was going on, and was abruptly interrupted by Kayden.
“What the f*ck!” He called out and stopped the car.
The car in front of us and the one behind stopped too and we stared in horror at the scene before us.
The main street of the small village we were passing through was covered in dead bodies. With a sinking feeling in my stomach, I got out of the car and resisted the urge to gag when the smell of blood overwhelmed me. When I looked closer, I realized that they were all human.
“Spread out!” Tyson ordered. “Look for survivors!”
The warriors disappeared down the streets and alleys leading away from us, and I looked at Tyson.
“This doesn’t feel good.” I whispered.
“I know.” He replied. “And I want to get out of here as much as you do, but we should really get some answers.”
I nodded and we both looked up when Warren called out.
“I have a survivor!”
We rushed to a small house on the side of the road to see Warren cradling a woman’s head in his lap. I crouched down next to him and realized that she had a long gash over her stomach. Her intestines were on the verge of slipping out of her stomach, and I knew that she wasn’t going to be alive for much longer unless we managed to get her to a hospital.
“It’s going to be okay.” I said and got on my knees next to her. “We’ve got you.”
“They’re all dead.” She whimpered.
I looked around, hoping to find any signs of life in the bodies that I figured were her family, but unfortunately the woman was right.
“We need to get her out of here.” Tyson said. “Maybe we should call an ambulance?”
Just as I was about to search for my phone, we all tensed when we heard cars approaching.

Tyson POV
Kayden and I went outside while Valeria and Warren stayed behind with the injured woman and we saw a group of what I guessed was vampire warriors step out of their cars and look at the scene in front of them with shock and horror.
“What have you done?” One of them screamed.
I raised my hands, hoping that I could calm this situation down.
“We just got here.” I said. “We found them like this.”
“You f*cking liar!” Another yelled. “I can smell the scent of you mutts all over the place.”
“Take them!”
“Fall back!” I yelled and gave Dax control as the vampires charged at us.
Kayden shifted too, along with the other warriors, fighting them off. I saw the injured woman float while Valeria and Warren rushed her to the car and got her safely inside.
“Get back to the car!” I mindlinked Kayden. “Get them out of here.”
“On it.” He replied before taking off to the car, shifting back to human form and throwing himself behind the wheel.
“Follow that car.” I told the warriors that were left fighting the vampires, and we took off as the car raced back the way we came from.
I really hoped that there weren't any other survivors left back there, because there was no way for us to take them with us.
“Ty, where are you?” Kayden mindlinked me.
“Right behind you.” I replied.
We raced over the border and the car came to a stop. I shifted back and frowned when Valeria stepped out, her hands and dress soiled with the woman’s blood.
“She’s gone.” She whispered, her eyes filled with sadness.
“I’m sorry.” I said softly and hugged her.
Warren came up to us.
“We lost Travis and Connor.” He said.
I sighed.
“I’m sorry.” I said again. “I can’t believe that just happened.”
Valeria stiffened and pulled away from me.
“This was their plan.” She whispered. “They wanted us to come here. They wanted to pin this on us. That’s why there wasn’t any border patrol.”
“That’s why the wounds looked like claw marks.” Kayden chimed in. “I think you’re right. We just walked into a trap.”

Talon POV
General Cass walked in.
“Mason is here to deliver the weapon.” He said and bowed.
“Bring him in.” I ordered.
A man in his sixties with thinning gray hair and a black suit walked into the throne room. Two men rolled a large crate on wheels after him. They were all human and even though I barely considered the puny creatures anything better than food, they sure had an impressive talent for engineering, so I hired a scientist to build a weapon to take down the lycan queen.
“I came to deliver your order, Sir.“ Mason said. “It’s custom made and it will knock the Valkyrie right out of the sky. Even if she puts up forcefields to shield herself, the blast will be too strong. The weapon also sends out a pulse with a frequency that will make it impossible for her to shift.”
I smiled and walked up to the crate.
“Show me.” I commanded.
Mason opened the crate and I stared at the large bazooka-looking weapon.
“I would recommend not pointing it at anything other than her.” Mason said. “She is powerful enough to handle the blast, but anyone else would be torn to pieces.”
I picked up the weapon and held it in my hands.
“Excellent work.” I said and pointed the gun at him. “But we won’t be needing your services anymore.”
Mason’s eyes widened when I pulled the trigger, and a strong shockwave came out of the large barrel. Mason and the two guys that had been standing next to him fell to the ground, their arms and legs sticking out in weird angles and I guessed that the weapon just broke every bone they had in their weak little bodies.
I looked up when the doors opened and my oldest son Alexander walked in.
“Is it true what they are saying?” He asked. “The lycans just attacked us? They slaughtered an innocent village by the border?”
I sighed.
“I’m afraid so, son.” I replied. “I just received a weapon to take out the greatest threat against us. We have to defend ourselves now that the mutts are planning an attack.”
“What do you suggest we do?” Alexander asked.
I smiled, feeling almost giddy at how well my plan was working.
“We attack them first.”
