Chapter 10 Widowed Marriage

1314 Words
Ruth's family was on the other side of the city center of Austin. Arabella had brought her father his favorite coffee and deserts, and arrived home just in time for lunch. Grace Ruth, who hadn't seen her daughter in a long time, ranted heartily about how thinner Arabella had become and kept spooning her food and soup, circling between the kitchen and dining room. Arabella dared to answer her mother's question, and she was even torn about her pregnancy. "Everything's fine, mom. A few days ago I went back to James' family with Ezra to see grandfather, and he took good care of me." But now he was actually right beside another woman... Grace Ruth nodded reassuringly at this. Yet Aden Ruth, who was at the head of the table, looked up at Arabella for a few moments and waited until his wife had calmed down and sit quietly before he slowly spoke, "Arabella, tell me honestly, how is your relationship with Ezra going?" When she heard her father's question, Arabella froze. The night when Ezra almost strangled herself suddenly came to her mind. The fear of suffocation and frequent death still occasionally woke her up in her dreams, and now Aden Ruth's question made her speechless instantly. "Arabella," Aden Ruth called out again, looking straight at his daughter, "Answer my question." Arabella looked down covertly, flustered, straightened her hair and replied vaguely, "He and I are fine..." She never told her parents about her marital troubles, simply because she didn't want them to worry. Especially her father, Aden Ruth. When she insisted on marrying Ezra, he was exceptionally opposed to it, so much so that he still hadn't accepted it all till now. Seeing Arabella struggle to cover up, Aden Ruth sighed lightly and didn't say anything else. Everyone said that Ezra was a young talent who was worthy of trust. But he deeply knew that even Ezra was a good young man, but the point was that he didn't love his daughter at all. Recently, several projects in Ruth's Company had been canceled by the clients for no apparent reason. Many of the clients suddenly changed their minds on the same day, and even withdrew from the project despite the high liquidated damages. He remembered a client he had worked with for years patted him before leaving, leaving a meaningful remark. "Mr. Ruth, the most fearful thing in business is that someone will stab you in the back, so take time to check those around you." Those people around him that stabbed him in the back? Aden Ruth's eyes darkened, besides Ezra, he didn't know who else had the ability to interfere with Ruth's Company ... It was late afternoon when Arabella came out of the home. Passersby were in a hurry in their thin spring clothes, with only the street trees swaying slightly. Arabella was driven by the driver of Ruth's family, and she looked out of the window quietly on the way. The gentle wind blew across her face, occasionally bringing the light scent of flowers. She realized she hadn't felt so relaxed in a long time. Since Beth Ruth returned, her relationship with Ezra seemed to have changed instantly. If he was once just indifferent to her, now he probably only had disgust and hatred for her left ... She didn't know what to do to make Ezra believe in her, everything seemed to have changed quietly. Suddenly, a familiar storefront flashed in front of the window and Arabella's wandering thoughts were abruptly pulled back. She hesitated for a moment before called out to the driver, "Mr. Eric please turn right at the intersection ahead and go to the Ritz Restaurant." Ritz Restaurant was the top private restaurant in Austin, and the clients it received were all wealthy people. Ezra was very picky about food, but only liked the refreshments here. Unfortunately, only dine-in food was available here, and there was no takeout service. Arabella wanted to resolve the misunderstanding with the man, but a few days had passed since that unhappy breakup, and Ezra had never contacted her again. After receiving the beautifully packaged meal box, she decided to take the initiative to meet Ezra. The headquarters of the James' Company was located in the most prosperous CDB business district of Austin, a whole magnificent silver building. The glass curtain wall reflected the afterglow of the evening sun, and the cold and biting aura made people afraid to approach. Arabella rubbed her wrist, which was a bit numb, and took a deep breath before stepping into the reception hall. The staff of James's Group all knew this Mrs. James. The wedding between Arabella and Ezra was a sensation in the whole city. The eldest daughter of Ruth's family married the young ruler of James's family, which made many people envious a lot. To this day, when everyone talked about that wedding again, the words were all envies without exception. However, they didn't know that after the wedding, Arabella was almost living a widowed marriage... Arabella just walked in, the eyes of the crowd fell on her with different expressions, as if with a trace of pity, but also with some sympathy. Arabella suppressed the doubts in her heart and walked in quickly. Occasionally, when employees came up to her, they would respectfully call out "Good afternoon, Mrs. James." But when they brushed past, some whispers with lowered voices inevitably drifted into her ears. "The boss is going to have a divorce, right? That woman is here." "What a poor woman, she shouldn't have known yet, right?" Arabella's face changed slightly, and a bad feeling suddenly arose in her heart, especially as she got closer and closer to Ezra's office. Arabella brushed off the secretary who tried to stop her, and was about to reach out and push open the office door, but stopped when she heard the girl's playful laughter, and instead gently pushed open a crack between a door. "Brother Ezra, I surrender! Leave me alone!" In the office, Ezra dotingly hugged Beth Ruth, the smile in his eyes could not be hidden, his right hand still held up the shrimp meat to her mouth, "Good girl, eat one more bite and I will let you go." Beth Ruth shook her head petulantly and armed around the man's shoulder. "This is what I brought you for dinner, how can you feed it all to me? I'm getting fat!" Ezra couldn't help but nod her nose. "Don't be capricious as you just recover from the health, you're too thin now." Outside the door, Arabella didn't listen any further, she pursed her lips and turned around to walk out. It was clear what those people's eyes meant just now, and Ezra's humiliation of her was no less than a public slap in her face. Arabella hung her head low, suddenly feeling suffocated by the extremely thin air in the hallway. It was clear to everyone that Beth Ruth had been a regular here, except her, who had been totally kept in the dark. The girl's face was pale, with unreadable emotions filling in her eyes. Suddenly, she turned around and handed the things in her hand to the secretary next to her and turned around and walked away without saying a word. The secretary was a bit at a loss, and waited until Beth Ruth left the office before hesitating to knock on the office door. "Mr. James, just now Mrs. James came by and saw that Miss Beth was there she didn't come in." The secretary gulped carefully, "This is what she brought, you see ..." Ezra was a little surprised, "Arabella just came over?" He paused, with his gazes swept over the beautifully wrapped lunch box, a trace of surprise flashed in his eyes, then he said expressionlessly, "Throw it away." The secretary froze, nodded, and left.
