Beck Hardwick sat at the patch of green on the higher ground, watching the group of boys racing around in the town’s field playing football. Half the players were shirtless, while the other wore shirts. Being only nine, Beck had already figured out how much he was a bookworm and if his mum had not forced him to go out and have fun like boys his age, he’d probably be in the house, stuck between the pages of another Harry Porter novel or playing some video games. He’d always found a certain sense of comfort in his own company.
His blue orbs followed the group of boys that was already covered in mad as they fought for the ball. He had to admit it was pretty interesting to watch and as he could tell so far, the shirtless team was going to win. They were already four goals ahead of the ones with shirts. One particular shirtless boy caught his attention from the way he expertly handled the ball.
Niran Thorn.
He was the lean boy, with perfect dark hair, always styled to perfection. He was the kid you’d straight out know he’d be the popular jock by the time you get to eleventh grade. He already had a couple of kids flocking him, always wanting to be associated with him.
He was distracted from his musing when the ball hit him hard on his forehead, sending him toppling to the ground. For several seconds he could only see stars as a couple of kids gathered around him, Niran quickly getting into the middle. His leaned down, worry in his voice as he looked at the smaller boy.
“Hey, are you okay?” he questioned.
Beck waited for a few more seconds, the stars clearing as he nodded. Raymond sighed in relief, standing up before offering him a hand. After a second of hesitation, he accepted it.
“You should be careful,” He pointed, pushing his palms inside his short’s pockets,” So what is your name?”
“Beck,” He answered with a small smile.
“I’m Niran,” He offered the smaller boy a toothy grin.
And that was marked the beginning of an unbreakable friendship that saw the two boys grow into being the most good-looks in the entire school by the time they cloaked seventeen and when they joined campus, it was easy to understand why they were a blessing to the gays and the girls. Unbeknown to Beck, Niran was not a mortal. He was a hybrid; part-werewolf, part-fire fairy, a rare one of his kind.
