In the weeks that followed, Valentine often thought back to those words, and berated himself for being so foolish to utter them. From his new home in the boiler room, Valentine, looked at his ash-covered hands, then continued to tinker with his only companion; the automaton helping him keep the furnaces burning.
“She was true to her word, Buttons. Belladonna took up residence within a day of taking Libertine as her mate, with her two daughters in tow.” Valentine gave an involuntary shudder. “A more unholy trio I’m yet to meet, and not only is Belladonna a powerful vampire, but she also wields dark magic.”
