________________________ . . . ~ JAMIE ~ . It was a brand new day. Yet again. But me being me, I did not even remember the date today. But you can't really blame me, now can you? It's not like any day was special or different in the past four years. "Jamie!" Maria sang as she walked in. Here to check in on your prisoner? "I am up." I said. Maria stopped in her tracks. "You okay?" "Blah." I sat up. "I miss my estate." Maria laughed. "I thought you hated the estate." "You don't realise what you had until you lose it." I said dramatically making her life. I turned towards her. "You seem to be in a good mood." "Aren't I always?" She winked. I rolled my eyes. Of course. She gets paid for babysitting the most fun person on the planet. So it was only natural that she was happy. "Has everyone reached the war front?" I asked quietly. I didn't want to look at her face as I asked that but she forced me to with her silence. I don't know what I expected her expression to be but it was definitely not the soft pathetic smile on her face. "What?" I shrugged. "You care for him, don't you?" I bit the inside of my cheeks to control the unlady-like snort that was about to escape my lips. This woman really was naive, was she not? She was the kind of person who looked for the goodness that did not exist in a person. Pathetic. Ugh, I am in a bad mood today. "You haven't answered my question." I said. Come on lady, answer my question so I can start my plotting and planning. "Yes. They have reached the war front but talks are still going on." "The witches and wizards are not backing down without a fight this time." I did not need to be clairvoyant to know that much. This war should have happened six years ago. In fact, it had gone on for two years without anyone knowing. But now, everyone had decided to fight face to face and I really was going to enjoy the bloodshed with some caramel popcorn. "You don't have to worry about a thing, Jamie. The Alpha is going to come back unscathed." I smirked. "As if I care." "Jamie... If only you would stop saying things like this, your relationship with all these people would have mended a long time ago." "You have very high expectations of me, Maria. It's almost exhausting." I stretched. It was time to drop my bomb. My mate, the only person in the whole wide world who had any control over me - only because he had a no-limit credit card - was away... Far away and in no position to return in case of an emergency. What could these fools do to me anyway? Lock me back up in this apartment? I didn't really mind. "I have decided to go out and check out the neighborhood." I said. "Okay- huh?" Maria looked flabbergasted. The look suited her. "I. Have decided to. Go out." I split it up to make it easy for her. "And. Check out. The neighborhood." "Don't joke, Jamie." I raised a brow. "You know you can't." "Who said I can't?" I smiled. "The Alpha-" "The Alpha is not here." My smile widened as I saw the colour drain out of her face. "And who has authority over the entire pack in his absence?" "Jamie?" "Who?" "The Luna." The shock in her eyes as she said it. Oof. Oof! I live for moments like this. The sheer power that coursed through me as she said it. The sheer fear in her voice. It gives me a high like no other. "And the Luna does not want you ratting her out to the Alpha." "Jamie..." Her voice was strained. It was obvious she was fighting her wolf which was bowing its head in submission. "Alpha is not in the territory honey. He is far far away." I smiled. "You can't do this." "I think I just did." . . . ~ ROWAN ~ . "Rowan, why do you look like that?" Rowan's good friend and fellow warrior, Don, asked as he passed him a can of beer. "Something's not right." Rowan was so sure about it. And he knew that everything was fine back in the pack. So it was only obvious that the problem was in other place. And he did not want to acknowledge it. But the worry was digging into his heart. He could not let anything happen to her, now could he? She was his only chance at an heir. He could not let the line of Alphas in his family end just yet. He had a promise to his grandfather. And frankly speaking, there was not one would in his pack who was capable of the position. "What's not right?" "He is just worried about-" Peter bit his tongue as Rowan gave him a pointed look. He could not talk freely about Jamie in front of Don. He had lost his father to her wrath. "- Maria and the two wolves watching the Luna." Peter picked himself up. "Two wolves?" Don turned to Rowan. "You sent two wolves with her? What if she does something?" "She is wolfless." Rowan said. "And without a wolf, she is weak. I have watched her in the past four years. She does not even have an iota of her past powers with her." "And what about the wolves watching her?" Don asked. "What if they harm her?" Rowan knew he was being studied as the two other wolves waited for his answer. He wondered if his friend was trying to see if he had any treacherous feelings towards the Plague. He did not. But he could not let her die before he had an heir. "They hold no grudge." Peter answered the question in the Alpha's stead. "Good." "Good? I thought you hated the Luna." Peter laughed, only to shut his mouth as soon as he saw the grave looks on both Rowan and Don's face. "Sorry." Don sighed and turned to the Alpha. "I am sorry Alpha. It is true that I hold I'll feelings towards the Luna. But I also know that she is the only one who can continue the Serge alpha line. I hold your family's ability to lead the pack at a higher position than my hatred for the Luna. So I am willing to forgive what she did in the past." He found it overwhelming to say it out loud so he hurried out of the room as soon as he said it. Rowan looked on, surprised. Did his pack members all felt the same way? Were they tolerant of Jamie for his sake? "You have the loyalty of that wolf." Peter mused. "Am I even worthy of it." "Trust me when I say you earned it, Rowan." Peter said. "Don't worry. No one is going to harm Jamie." Rowan turned to him, shaking his head. "You don't understand. I am not worried anyone will hurt her. I am worried she will hurt someone." "How is that possible? She is a human." "She is a serial killer." "But she is nothing against werewolves." "Wolf hunters are humans, Peters. But they have took down the greatest of wolves." Rowan thought of his own father as he said this. "And Jamie, she was raised by then." . . . __________________________
