The silence between the two of us was almost palpable, and the harder the rain got, the more I hoped that he would be the first to give up, which he didn't. The party was still going on, only now only inside the house.
The party was still going on, only now only inside the house. I could hear people shouting in euphoria and the music getting louder.
Benjamin is humming some melody on his thigh, tapping the palm of his hand lightly against his leg, while my eyes are fixed on the door of the house.
— Who are you? — Benjamin's voice resounds loudly, and I immediately turn my face towards him, noticing that he was looking in an opposite direction to us.
I follow his gaze and find the same man as before, staring intently at us. There was only Benjamin and me here, the other people were trapped in the house, with an absurdly loud sound. So if he wanted to do something against the president's son, this would be the perfect moment.
— Did you hear what I asked you? — Benjamin looks slightly irritated and jumps up from where he is sitting.
Discretely, I bring my hand up to the inside of my thigh, just to make sure that my g*n is secured there in case I need it.
I stand up as well and stop beside Benjamin, also staring at the man slightly in front of us, who apparently had no intention whatsoever of answering the questions that had been asked by Benjamin.
The man's hand started to go towards his waistband, and I let out a sigh when I noticed that this gesture could mean that he had a g*n.
— Your father has done a terrible job. — the husky voice reaches our ears.
— My father is a great politician.
— A great politician? — he lets out a sinister laugh. — Do you really think he's good? — the man takes a few steps toward us, and I feel Benjamin's hand on my wrist, pulling me back along with him.
— Young man, I don't know what you're talking about and what this conversation is about, but I'm sure that the two of us can't solve your problem. — I try to reason. I simply couldn't reveal my identity, I couldn't act in front of Benjamin.
— You really can't, since you are being harmed as much as I am. — his voice comes out a little lighter. — But he can.
Discretely I bring my hand to the back of my pants, but precisely in my back pocket, and as soon as I find a small device, I am quick to push its button.
My boss had said that Benjamin's security was being done more discreetly, due to his own requests, since being surrounded by security guards all the time was hurting his social life, and he was complaining about it.
But not having them around all the time did not mean that they were far away.
And this is where the device that I am pressing now comes in, if some emergency occurred, and I could not act, I could just press this button and Benjamin's other security guards would show up and handle the situation.
In a matter of seconds, several men appeared on the lawn, their guns pointed in the direction of the strange man.
— Our intention is not to kill you, but we will if you try to do something. — one of the security guards says to the man, and the response he gets is a laugh.
— It doesn't matter if you kill me or not, other people will come to do the job. There are too many of us!
Three security guards approach Benjamin and me and start leading us into the house.
— The party is over, send all these people away! — one of the security guards says seriously.
— Why? I know you are going to take care of that guy.
— End this party and we'll take you to the apartment downtown, Benjamin. — he says more seriously, and the boy next to me snorts.
The security guards give him some space and I can see how annoyed he is with the order.
Doesn't he realize that all this is necessary and that he is only being protected?
— I hope you don't open your mouth to tell anyone about what happened here! — his index finger is pointed in my direction.
— First, put your f*****g finger down! — I slap his hand hard, pushing his finger away from my face. — Second, I don't care what happens in your life and have no interest in telling anyone about it.
That said, I walk past him and away in quick steps, not having the chance to go very far.
— If I hear that you told anyone about this…— I interrupt him.
— What are you going to do? Ask your men to come after me? — I cross my arms and narrow my eyes.
I can see that hatred is present on his face, but I don't care.
— No! I just want it to die here, do you understand?
— Benjamin, f**k you! — I raise my middle finger at him and walk away.
— If you'll go with me, I'll be happy to go with you, you little rascal! — is what I heard him say, before leaving the house.
I should have let him die.
