1 Year Later
Ravyn (Ray-Vin) Mireya (M-eye-REY-ah) Kendricks POV:
"Ray, are you serious? Are you really going to get it done?" My best friend Vera asked me as we stood next to a building wall at about midnight spraying it with paint.
"Yeah, I think I am. I've wanted to for a couple of years now." I responded to her.
"And how are you going to get them pierced without your parent's consent? You're underage." She reminded me as I shook my can so I could continue with the color that I was doing.
"Same way I did when I got the Angel wings on my back three years ago when I was 14, my friend Drake," I told her and she stopped her painting and gasped as she looked over at me.
"How old is Drake?" She asked as she still just stood there looking at me.
"28," I responded, causing her to gasp again.
"Do you have any idea what your father would do to him if he ever found out that you let a man touch you let alone pierce your n*****s?" She said in a higher pitch, causing me to laugh.
"Who says my parents would ever know I had it done?" I asked her, pausing my painting as I glanced over at her.
"You know I've done a lot of s**t with you over the years but if my father was your father, I never would be as gutsy as you. I've heard the stories about him, everyone has." She said as she continued to finish her portion of the design.
"If my dad was your dad, it would have been you instead of me getting suspended from junior high for using a knife to carve designs in the bathroom stall," I told her as we both started to laugh.
"That was some good times," She said at the end of her laugh.
"Just sucks that you had to leave. Now the only time we see each other is if you sneak out of the house because your dad practically has you on lockdown all of the time." She grumbled as she finished and I made the final touches to mine.
"Yeah, well, I'm not on lockdown all of the time. But when I am, that's why I leave when he's away on a job or business. Much easier to get out when he's not around. I swear he knows everything that I'm doing." I told her while rolling my eyes as I stood back to take a look at our work.
"Do you think they're going to like it?" She asked me.
"No, probably not but I don't really care. The whole point is to get back at them for calling the police on me again and then alerting my father." I told her as I put my hand on my hip as we looked at the picture.
"A picture of a young girl sticking her tongue between her two fingers is your way of making a statement?" She asked and I looked over at her.
We both suddenly started to laugh. We quickly packed our paint cans into our bags and put them over our shoulders. As we started walking down the sidewalk, Vera pulled out a cigarette and lit it up.
"Vera, you know I can't be around smoke," I told her reminding her of my asthma.
"I will keep it in this hand and blow it in the opposite direction. I haven't had a smoke in over an hour." She whined.
"You better keep it over there. I'll smack you if I feel an attack coming on." I semi-threatened her.
"If an attack is coming on, I think you'll be more worried about your inhaler than smacking me." She told me.
"Then maybe I just need to smack you now before it happens!" I told her and she started to laugh.
"Hey, Ray, you want to go for a cruise around town?" We heard shortly after the sounds of a motorcycle engine approaching, causing us to look over at the street.
"Get lost, Simon." I snapped at him as I continued to walk with Vera.
"Come on! The night is young!" He said as he revved up his bike to show off.
"She said to get lost jackass!" Vera snapped at him.
"I wasn't talking to you b***h!" He yelled back at her, causing her to flip him off with the same hand that had her cigarette.
"f**k you, Simon!" I shouted back at him, wrapped my arm around Vera's, and started to walk faster.
We had only gotten a few steps farther before I felt his presence behind me. I quickly grabbed my knife from the inside of my jean jacket and turned around quickly. It was only seconds before I had the point of the blade pressed against the front of his neck.
"Seriously, Ray? I only wanted to take you for a ride." He said as if he thought I was playing around.
"And I told you, I wasn't interested," I told him as I stared up into his eyes.
"Why suddenly not interested?" He asked me as he continued to just stand there, looking down at me as if the knife wasn't pressed against his throat.
"Since you ratted me out for coming to school high off my ass. I had already had my last warning at that school. The next thing I knew, I was kicked out of another school! Now, I'm stuck at home getting homeschooled by my mom because I've been kicked out of every school in the area!" I almost shouted at him.
"Ah, Ray, you know you didn't care to be at that school. I did you a favor." He said as he laughed.
"Yeah, some favor. It was either that or I got kicked out for having my stash in my locker when the dogs came through the following day." I told him as I pulled my knife away from his throat and put it back into my jacket as we started to walk away.
"What are you two up to anyway this time of night?" He asked as he caught up with us as if he was going to hang with us.
"You do realize that you are on the wrong side of town to leave your bike unattended, right?" I asked him and glanced up at him.
"Oh, s**t!" He said quickly as he turned around to head back to the bike that he left on the side of the street.
Vera quickly threw her cigarette on the sidewalk and we quickly took off down the sidewalk and ran into an alley. We quickly got to the back door of one of the nightclubs. I pulled out my kit and started to pick the lock. Only took me a few seconds before I had the door open.
"We'll lose him in here. He won't know where we went." I told her as we slipped through the door.
As soon as we were in the building, we could hear the loud music playing on the other side of the storage room. We walked quietly through the room till we got to the next door that should lead us into the main area of the club. I slowly opened the door, just enough to peek through to make sure none of the bouncers were nearby. This isn't one of the better clubs in the area and is known for its rowdy clientele. Rowdy as in bar fight drunk.
Once I saw that the coast was clear, I opened the door farther for us to squeeze through.
"Try to act as if we belong here," I whispered to her.
"You just turned 17 last week and I'm only 16. How are we going to look like we belong here?" She asked me.
"By not acting like we are 17 or 16," I told her and she just rolled her eyes.
"Good luck with that." She said softly as we started to walk through the hallway, closer to the dancefloor and bar.
The music was plenty loud that we could easily talk if we wanted to and not be heard by anyone. We didn't talk, just walked as if we knew right where we were going and as if we had been in the club for hours by this time. The bar was full of men and women so drunk they couldn't seem to stop laughing. One already had their head on the counter, asleep. The dancefloor already had several others dancing or should I say, justified groping with rhythm.
"You two don't belong in here." We suddenly heard a low deep voice behind us.
"We are just heading out," I told him without looking behind at him.
A hand was suddenly on my arm, pulling me to the side, forcing me to turn and look at him. He was a large man, definitely one of the bouncers for sure. I kept my glare on his eyes as he looked over me as if he was trying to assess what he saw.
"You're way past your bedtime, little girl." He told me and my face hardened.
"Which is why we are heading home," I responded to him as I kept my stare on him.
"Why don't I help you." He said as he tightened his grip on my arm and started to pull me towards the front door.
He pulled me to the door and practically pushed me out onto the sidewalk.
"Come back in ten years when you're older." He told us just as he shut the door.
"Well, he was pleasant," Vera mumbled with a laugh.
"Could have been worse I guess. I may have had to show him who he was messing with." I told her as we started to walk down the sidewalk.
"All that's going to do is give you an asthma attack. You know you can't get yourself all worked up." She told me.
"I know, but would still be fun to put him in his place before the attack," I told her and she just nodded in agreement.
I continued to walk with Vera until we got to her apartment complex. I always make sure I walk her home because I don't want anything to happen to her. She doesn't live super far from where I live but just far enough that she is on the other side of the tracks, the bad side of town. I can take care of myself and most people in this town who know who my father is so most don't mess with me. Most, don't mean the local wannabe gangs in the area don't try their luck from time to time.
I walked quickly the rest of the way back to the estate. I walked along the property to the area where the trees are a little thicker. I reached up and grabbed the tree branch and pulled myself up and into the tree. I have been using these trees for years to aid in my way in and out of the gates of the estate. One time I had a hole in the fence but that didn't take long for the guards who patrol the perimeter to find the hole and alert my father. Because of the cameras all along the property, they knew right away that it was me who cut it with a pair of bolt cutters.
Now, I just climb over the fence. I just got to make sure that I don't cause the branches to touch the electrical line at the top of the fence. It won't electrocute you or anything, it just sends an alert to the front gate, the security room, and an alert to my father's phone. It takes more than high winds to set it off but it's also impossible to climb over the fence without setting it off. It's very effective. It would be, my uncle Jax installed it a few years ago. I guess they figured out I was climbing the fence.
The only thing Jax didn't take into consideration when he installed and programmed the software for it was these trees. They weren't a problem at the time, but now, they are more than tall enough to get me over the fence without touching that wire. I don't think they would hold a large man but I'm only five feet four inches and a little less than 100 pounds. Even I have to take it easy so I don't break one of the branches.
I got to the tree on the other side of the fence and waited. There were a few guards walking the perimeter of the property. They were shining their flashlights around, thankfully they hadn't pointed them up at the tree. I stayed as still and quiet as I could while they walked under the tree and talked. I watched them as they continued down the property line. I waited until they were out of sight before I carefully climbed out of the tree.
I walked stealth-like to the wall of the house. I walked along the wall till I got to one of the many porches and climbed up the side of it. It isn't the easiest way up the side of the house and I really have to control my breathing to keep an asthma attack from happening, but this porch roof happens to be right under my bedroom window. I heard voices again so I quickly laid down on the roof as flat as I could get. There are so many guards at night. My dad increased the number of them when I first snuck out of the house and got caught by Elijah, one of the police officers in town. He's one of the night officers and tends to be the one that is on shift in the area. I see him often. Let's just say, my father, grounded me for a month! He increased the guards, mostly around my bedroom's side of the house, and put a guard outside of my bedroom door! I couldn't even masturbate quietly without the feeling of him hearing me!
The guard at my door is no longer there and even though there aren't as many outside by my window, there are still more than there used to be before that. I haven't gotten caught yet since that day but that doesn't mean it won't be possible. I've had a few close calls already.
Once I knew the coast was clear again, I carefully made my way to my window and slowly pushed it open. My lights were off to make it look like I was sleeping and to help keep me from being noticed outside by one of the guards. I dropped my bag on the floor, just inside the window.
I crawled through and slowly shut my window behind me. I quickly turned around when the light in my room turned on. I just stood there and stared into the dark eyes of my father, Ryker Warren Kendricks.
