Chapter 15 DEACON It looks like it’s going to be a wet Chicago trip, a bout of rain following us as we start to descend into a city soaked in cool summer rain. The plane ride to the Windy City is just that—windy. And though New York is saturated in summer heat, it’s almost as if we’ve passed into a winter curtain the second we hit the Midwest. Donning my usual t-shirt, jeans and jacket, I pull the leather on my shoulders tighter as turbulence rocks our overcrowded flight. My nerves are on high.
