The interview ended, but Luna remained in the library, her thoughts racing. Alexander had been courteous, yet there was something enigmatic about him—something that suggested there was more to his story than what he’d shared.
She was about to leave when she noticed a small door at the back of the library, partially concealed by a heavy curtain. The door was slightly ajar, revealing a dimly lit room beyond.
Her journalistic instincts urged her to investigate. She approached the door quietly, pushing it open just enough to slip inside. The room was filled with old books, ancient artifacts, and strange symbols etched into the walls. It looked like a personal study or a hidden sanctuary.
Among the items on a large desk, Luna noticed a leather-bound journal with a lock on it. Her curiosity was piqued. She took a quick glance around to make sure she was alone before reaching for the journal.
At that moment, she heard a noise behind her. Luna spun around to find Alexander standing in the doorway, his expression a mix of surprise and frustration.
“What are you doing here?” he asked, his voice low and controlled.
Luna’s heart raced, but she stood her ground. “I was curious about this room. I didn’t mean to intrude.”
Alexander walked in, his gaze fixed on the journal. “This is a private space. I suggest you leave.”
Luna nodded, but her mind was already racing. The journal was a mystery she was determined to solve. “I’m sorry if I’ve overstepped. I’ll leave now.”
As she turned to go, Alexander’s eyes lingered on her. “You should be careful, Miss Davenport. Some truths are better left undiscovered.”
Luna left the library, her thoughts buzzing with unanswered questions. The journal was clearly important, and she was determined to find out what secrets it held.
